James,

You dont have a clue of the real world or how Indians
feel about the name squaw.....the dictonary also says
"niger" is a black person or negro........I live up
with the indians and here the stories of how squaw was
used to talk down to an indian woman...it was a name
given them by us and has always had a negative neaning
....not of their choosing.

I also said the first Aerican Woman killed in active
front line duty...and if you talk to American Indians
the majoring do not like being called native
american...another name given them by us....I deal
with American Indians every day and have many who are
friends,

the law explictly states that no geological,
> geographical site can
> be renamed until 5 years after the death of the
> person. Case in
> point, Cape Canaveral switch to Cape Kenndy and then
> back. This case
> went all the way to the Supreme Court.

James that is a federal law dealing with federal
land...not State land....and my neighbor a lawyer said
that what the board did is legal..maybe not right but
legal....The state is constanlly changing names of
places in our state....I also find it funny that you
stop the description of squaw from websters dictionary
withjout mentioning the final remark: "this term is
now considered offensive 2 a woman esp. one's wife a
mild term of contempt.

Arizona revised statutes:
Article 3 - Historical Names
41-835 - Perpetuation of historical names
41-835.01 - Definition of board
41-835.02 - State board on geographic and historic
names; membership; expenses; quorum; staff support;
chairman
41-835.03 - Powers and duties
41-835.04 - Changes in or additions of geographic or
historic names; submission of proposal; consideration;
action; notice
41-835.05 - Use of names chosen

points of interest:

41-835.03.. the board shall Receive and evaluate all
proposals for changes in or additions to names of
geographic features and places of historical
significance in this state and after this evaluation
designate the most appropriate and acceptable names
and spelling of these names for use in maps and other
official governmental documents.

B. The board may:

1. Adopt rules for the orderly conduct of business.

which means they can supsend their own rules.

The AZ statutes make no reference to a time line for
this process and only people effected by the change be
involved in the revue....since this is state land and
the name of the person attached to the change family
was contacted....the board did what was required. and
since 6 of 8 of board members where present and 5 of
the 6 voted for the change...arizona state statutes
have been made....and our law does not specify which
representatives need to be present...just a majority
...this board has the right under the statute to
change as needed rules which would also mean suspend
portions of the rules as needed to conduct orderly
meetings.... they can in effect under our state law
set their own rules of governing themselves.

41-835.02.
E. A majority of the members constitutes a quorum.

as mentioned before the law only requires a majority
of the board be pressent to vote and no mention of
which ones need be there

And since the Governers office appoints the two public
members of the 8 the others are appointed by other
state regulatory agencies.

They may not have gone about it in the right
fashion..but no Arizona Laws have been broken...dont
believe everything you read in the Arizona
Republic....they are seldem correct on their
informantion...and James it is obvious that you are
misguided and by leaving out vital information on your
quotes from websters makes your quotes no better than
AZ Republic....The law which governs this in the state
of AZ is very ambigious.

No problem. Make a template out of a coat hanger or thin wall tubing and bring it over or just drive it over. Will be home this week.

I am building new steering for my XJ from 1.25 DOM. I need to have a 10 degree bend in my track bar, and (2) 5 degree bends in my tie rod. Anyone out there with a bender that can do this for me real quick, this weekend, if possible. Duffy, maybe??

I can pay in beer or cash for your time :)

Just fishing for any possible suggestions. I ran upper woodpecker last weekend and by the time I got home the engine will not idle, runs ok at high rpm but dies as soon as you release the throttle. Specs: 85 CJ-7 258 I-6, Carter BBD(New 2 years ago) all emissions disconnected computer controls by-passed , GM Hei Ignition. Any help would be appreciated.

This does get this subject back on jeeps though from this thread. I was driving in the south end entrance in squaw peak park in my scout (w/ vjc sticker) a park ranger had the audacty to walk up to me and my friends (a recreational high school football organized event) and promptly explain how "this is not an OHV park." and how he "better not see one tire leave the pavement." Which followed up with the coach coming over and inquire what the problem was. The park official explained what LOL "happened" and my coach ripped him a new one demanded his superior's contact information and identification for making a scene over me parking in a clearly designated parking spot And yelling and making a scene and threatening us for something so ridiculous.

Which leads me into why this is such a sore spot for me. Why does the fact that some soldier who by nothing but coincidence is a girl and a minority and isnt infantry is made such a huge deal by the media and now the politicians. What about the whitebread good ole boy from nebraska running through the city with a gun in his hands? He is forgotten. But one person gets one of Phoenix's most beautiful landmarks named after her??? I dont get it. Yes the term Squaw in native american (<-- laying on the policitly correctness pretty thick here) dialect is a derrogitory term with many offensive meanings and some not so offensive. Its part of this state's haritage. Its like the baseball team the "redskins" people protested that but they soon came to grips and accepted the fact its part of this nations history. As unproud as some people are of it it is who we are lets stop ignoring things we arent proud of and hiding them.

$0.02

PS
There are some pretty gnarly trails up in there but jeeps will never know...

Mike,
I thought you we're running a ProJection?

Sounds like your idle tubes are clogged. My CJ-7 used to do it all
the time till I switched to a Webber.

Go here:
http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/engine/carter.html

It's a good writeup & tells you how to fix the problem.

If the links no good anymore I have a printed copy I kept in my
garage. I can fax or have Jeff drop it off to you Monday

OK
I bought the Chicago winch. Somebody had to do it. So far so good. It came with the mounting plate that fits my YJ. All I had to get was some 1/2 bolts. Yes the winch bolts were SAE.
I have looked at the document and it does say made in China and the Ramsey says made in USA.
However. if you compare the drawings one is the reverse image of the other. Maybe the Ramsey is assembled in the USA. Anyway I unrolled the winch cable and druge my jeep the whole 100 feet and so far no problems. It comes with a 90 day warranty which I extended for 29 dollars to one year.
So if anyone want to check it out let me know. I have not disassembled it yet.

Today I went into Harbor Freight to purchase a parts cleaning tank and found

I put the tank together today and it is very sturdy with quality higher than

Date: Sun Apr 20, 2003 8:56am
Subject: Re: OT: French Companies To Boycott

Resurecting a dead dog.... I was thinking about this post after
seeing the new edition of Jeep magazine I recieved.

Some new editions of the KJ, TJ & WJ are called the "Freedom"
edition. Is this DC's way of capitolising off the war? Maybe they
models were slated to come out before the war on, I don't think so.
Never forget 9/11.
I have recieved quite a few emails that echo the sentaments in this
posting. I have never recieved any saying, Boycott German companies,
or, Boycott Russian companies.

You might be asking, what do the last two paragraphs have to do with
each other? Or maybe you figured it out. Do you know who owns Jeep?
Hint: It isn't an American company.

They won't support us on the field but, they will try to capitolize
off us.

Just something to think about, before you start blasting away on
just one country.

--James

PS - I was going to remove the "OT" because this does have to do
with Jeeps and thus is "on topic", but I decided against it.
