I have recently banged my fuel tank. The skid is bent up a bit limiting
my tank a gallon or few. I now have started to run low (jeep sputtering)
on gas at just less then 1/2 a tank.

Sorry I don't have a solution but you may check this issue.

Also you should convert the 15 gal. Tank to a 20.

Have a 90 YJ 2.5L with the standard 15 gal tank. I have been
regularly running out of gas with 1/8 tank showing, but the last tank
only went to 1/4.

When I fill up, the gauge goes way high. Is there an easy adjustment
that can be made to the sender or the gauge?

Thanks

If you banged it, better drop the tank, take the skid plate
off and have a real good look at the tank (I am assuming
it's plastic.) You may have a hole in the tank and it
could be anywhere on the tank (for example, along one
of the seams.) Or you could wait until your next emissions
when you fail your pressurization test. I had a similar
experience with my plastic gas tank. I had to replace
the tank with a used one, it was pretty simple to
convert the tank from 15 gallons to 20 gallons:
You just pull out a piece of tubing, cut, and reinsert.

I am planning on replacing the 20 gallon plastic tank
with a 20 gallon steel tank. Anyone know who
does that kind of work?

Thanks,
Tony

Really that easy to get 20 gal?

Does anyone have a write-up of this with pics for the reading-

conversion from 15 to 5 gallon.

According to the story the rancher that had the previous lease, it
had already closed it to off road use. Do ranchers who hold a lease
on State School land usually leave it open to off roading? Is State
School land different from State Trust land?

to the Hunter Offroad Ramp Fund:

Michael Hoyt
Stu Olson
Brad Kilgore
Scott Kruize
Michael Wixom
Gary Holmes
Shawn Passmore
Scott Bruns
Bill Hooven

For those who wish to contribute, you can paypal funds to:

arizonajeep@c...

The purpose of this fund is to assist John at Hunter Offroad in replacing
his Ramp Travel Index (RTI) Ramp which was stolen. As a group, many of us
have used this ramp over the last couple of years so I thought it would be
nice if we helped John replace the ramp (especially since he built it for us
for AZVJC BBQ 1).

For those who were going to contribute parts such as spindles, bearings,
wheels and tires for the ramp... could you please contact me offline so I
can arrange to pick this stuff up?

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Subject: two-inch lift for 97 TJ

Hi All:

I'd like to slap a two-inch lift on my '97 TJ (i know - it's lame)
to eliminate tire rub (31" BFG MT's). I basically do some mild
wheeling (3.0 - 4.0), but will be driving it across the country on
my sabbatical this summer. Was wondering what sort of "gotcha's"
might be involved, for instance:
* Is a slip-yoke eliminator necessary?
* Will I need to extend the brake lines?
* Should I get a dropped pitman arm?
* If i have a winch/heavy front bumper, should i also put spacers
on the front springs to compensate for any sag?
* what sort of time should i allot for doing the install (e.g. is
it a six-pack worth of effort or a full case...)?
* What other questions should I ask?

I'm toying with the idea of the Teraflex 2" lift - they've got a
real nice write-up on how to install it on their website. Any
recommendations for a 2" lift are welcome - I'd prefer not to pay a
zillion dollars when it's only a 2" lift (and my money is supposed
to be allotted to my CJ5 project).

Thanks in advance

this was proper company policy). A quick call to Rick Beer resulted in a

Once again... Rick goes out of his way to make a happy customer.

By the way... Rick is located at the 4th avenue and Bell Road Discount Tire

Subject: Re: two-inch lift for 97 TJ

Andy, are you rubbing, with the 31s, when you go wheeling, and, if so, are
you disconnecting the front sway bar ?? Also, when the 31s rub, do they rub
on the under side of the fenders at full flex ??
If the answer is yes to those questions, than simply adding 2" of suspension
lift (either via longer springs or using spring spacers), won't stop the
rubbing.. You'll still rub at full flex.. What you need is a simply bumpstop
adjustment.. Simply lower (space down) the bumpstops a little such that the
31's don't rub at full flex..
Now, if you *want* a suspension lift for other reasons, then that's a
different story ;)
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, a 2" spring spacer lift (with
longer shocks and bumpstops), would be the least expensive way to go..
Depending on the shocks, you'll also maintain your on-road ride.. The other
end of the spectrum would be one of the really top of the line lifts, like
the OME 2 1/2" lift.. They make, IMHO, the best springs and shocks
available, for that size lift.

Best,
Fred

Get the MTR's. They are very civil on the street and provide superior
traction for the type of terrain we have here. The sidewall strength is far
stronger than the BFG KO & KM or any of the Interco Radials.

There still isn't a better tire for all around use out there.

Soliciting opinions, educated and otherwise, regarding what kind of
tires I should go with once the lift is on.

I will be putting on the Rubicon Express 3.5 Super Flex kit, and then
upgrading to 33" tires (gotta' get that skid plate away from the
ground). I am going with 285/75R16 on the stock rims. That part is
decided.

Now to the question part. Looking at another set of MTRs or BFG KOs
or TrXus. Can't go wrong with MTRs, the BFGs have that rim protector
thing that is kinda cool, and the TrXus seem very cool (Interco
baby!), but I want to be sure they don't wind up being another
Thornbird, and they are only 2 ply sidewall.

Where is the best place to get any of these tires?

I believe an argument could be made that a responsible group of 4 wheelers are providing environmental protection and would fall on this category. It may take a bit of work but could be done.

That would be cool but the article mentioned something about approved lease reasons are for ranching, mining and environmental protection. I know this is a specific case dealing with not many acres but I'm wondering if a can of worms was just opened.

Does anyone know what the going rate is for grazing land per acre ? I see the rancher made it quite clear in his petition that he stopped off roading.......I wonder if we can get a lease on some land or if all the clubs together can get a lease, we could build some new trails :-)

Hey Joe,

Are you going to put a kill switch on it? How about a Lojack?

Hunter Offroad's Stolen Ramp

I'd like to publicly thank the following individuals for their contribution
to the Hunter Offroad Ramp Fund:

Michael Hoyt
Stu Olson
Brad Kilgore
Scott Kruize
Michael Wixom
Gary Holmes
Shawn Passmore
Scott Bruns
Bill Hooven
John DeRuiter

Joe West

If it's a daily driver and tire ware is a concern, go with the BFG's. If
tire ware is not a concern, get the MTR's...they rock on the rocks!
