Anybody interested in the rear end I just replaced in my 99TJ? Keep in mind
everything in the pumpkin is pretty much shreded.... If anybody wants it for
parts they can come get it anytime. I need it out of my garage. I will wait
a week and then call the garbage people to come get it. Everything else
should be in good condition. If you want it email me off list.

Subject: Rodeo-Chediski Fire Help Needed *** URGENT ***

I just received a call from Dave Sherman, they have a boy scout
troop coming up the week of April 26th to remove wood, however they
cannot cut it down. Originally this weekend a mennenite group was
coming up to do the cutting, but have backed out at the last
minute. They DESPERATELY need people who can cut down trees this
weekend so that the boy scouts can haul it away when they come up.

Do we have any tree cutters? Can anyone make it up there this
weekend (yes I know it is Easter weekend, how about Friday and
Saturday instead of Sunday)? Let's get creative if we can and
figure out what days who can help.

Please contact me if you can make it, I need to call Dave back by
tomorrow and let him know. He is very sorry for the short notice.

We are still working out details for a full follow up run, this is
just something that they had fall through and really need help fast
and pretty much took over all talks in their meeting Friday.

Feel free to email me or call me at 623-340-0885.

Thanks,
Chris

?????
I thought there was still a court injunction prohibiting cutting? Did that
get cleared up finally?
Sorry, I can't help, I have family from WI and CA in town this weekend...

I just installed REs adjustable upper control arms in the rear of the 1998 TJ. There is a bracket on the emergency brake cables and rear brake line that allow them to be bolted to the stock control arms. There is, however, no way to bolt these to the new RE arms. What, if anything, have you folks been doing to reattach these brackets?

Andrew,
The only permit needed for "casual use" is on State Trust Lands in
Arizona......... this amounts to approx. 9.3 million acres and the bad part
of this is most are not "signed" so you don't know when/where you're on STL.
The other issue is you normally have to "cross State Trust Lands" to get to
public lands........ in other words....... be safe, purchase a $20.00
permit. Attached is some information about the State Trust Rec Permit and
where you can purchase them...... all but 4-Wheeler still have permits. As
soon as each of us run out the only place one can purchase permits will be
the State Land Offices and the PLIC.

You can also obtain "color coded" maps of the whole state and/or smaller
specific areas (topo's) from the Public Lands Information Center (PLIC) at
222 N. Central, Phx. (Southwest corner of Central & Van Buren). The PLIC
is actually within the main lobby of the Bureau of Land Management. If you
park in the ACE parking garage on Van Buren between Central and 1st
AVENUE..... the PLIC will validate your parking. These maps are very
inexpensive and they will print them for you while you wait...........
they're definitely worth the money.

Are you needing bodies, or bodies that come complete with chain saws?

They are in need of bodies with chainsaws or bodies that are
experienced. They have 2 chainsaws up there and do have protective
equipment(glasses, gloves and chaps and can get more).

I hope that no club members believe that because 4 Wheelers can no longer get permits, that this then becomes a valid reason for not having one. Since the permitting process can be initiated by a phone call or one can be obtained in person at the land office....well, you take it from there.

IF they can't supply them can you still get in trouble for not having one??? I mean there are places around that sell them but this seems like one hell of a catch 22. Almost a hassle to follow the law. Dont get me wrong I do intend on purchasing one. But damn.

We are not able to get the permits to sell. That's why. The department in charge of the program has lost its funding and is unable to supply the permits.

Because of the standing with Tammy's job and the OHV Rec Program within the

The National Guard helped the ASLD make the "parking" area at the Hwy 79
entrance to Cottonwood Canyon Rd....... They are talking of a "loading
ramp" for ATV's and motorcycles. If this is abused and recreationists go
beyond the fenced area..... riding, parking, doing donuts, etc the entire
area will be closed to our use so hopefully we will ALL play our part and
help police the area. Yes, there will be a gate installed
eventually........... when the National Guard are training, Cottonwood
Canyon will be closed to "THROUGH TRAFFIC" while the ANG are in the area.
We will need to enter the area from Hwy 60, through Superior or through Box
Canyon.

Martinez Canyon is open to "casual" use until such time the private owner
posts PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO TRESPASSING signs...... this has not been done
to my knowledge. For "permitted events" such as Jamboree, we cannot cross
private property because we must literally obtain "permission" to cross
these properties and we cannot obtain permission from the group owning
Martinez.

I tried working with Tucson BLM re getting the exact private property lines
to see if we could "go around" the private property at the mill and at the
mines themselves at the top of the mountain. (they ACTUALLY did check it
out with the Classic Bronco Club members) There is no way around
either......... it's either up the side of a rock wall or off a cliff......

We will continue working with the owners to see if we can reach an agreement
but it doesn't look positive.........The reason for the lack of permission
is the "users" entering the mill and mines. They are destroying and
outright stealing property. These kinds of thoughtless actions will end up
closing many areas to us in the near future.

For the present time ............ "casual users" can still do Martinez
Canyon........ my guess is Tucson will eventually close the entire canyon
to us......... just like Jawbreaker........ just like they're trying to do
with Lower Woodpecker!!!

Soliciting opinions, educated and otherwise, regarding what kind of
tires I should go with once the lift is on.

I will be putting on the Rubicon Express 3.5 Super Flex kit, and then
upgrading to 33" tires (gotta' get that skid plate away from the
ground). I am going with 285/75R16 on the stock rims. That part is
decided.

Now to the question part. Looking at another set of MTRs or BFG KOs
or TrXus. Can't go wrong with MTRs, the BFGs have that rim protector
thing that is kinda cool, and the TrXus seem very cool (Interco
baby!), but I want to be sure they don't wind up being another
Thornbird, and they are only 2 ply sidewall.

Where is the best place to get any of these tires?

THANKS Stu...... some clarification for everyone:

Stu is correct regarding STL rec permits and everyone having
one..............

Lake Pleasant County Park does not require a "permit" but there is a $5.00
per day, per vehicle FEE so this is in a way a "permit"........

Most access roads to the Lake Pleasant County Park cross State Trust Lands
so you still need that State Rec Permit.

There are a couple of gated trails within our National Forests...........
these "permits" do not cost anything but you do need a
"permit/permission/combination" to access these trails. You can obtain a
permit from the Tonto Forest Dist. Office on McDowell. There is one trail
in the east valley............. from the lakes to Apache Junction........
Bull Dog Wash. This is actually the first dedication section of the Great
Western Trail that will eventually go from the Mexican border to
Canada.............

Those of us that had ASLD permits are still selling them other than
4-Wheeler Supply because they sold out and cannot get more until some issues
are settled.

Subject: [Tech] 88 xj - my Cherokee caught fire and burned on side of freeway

This morning my 88 XJ caught fire and burned up, the engine and under the dash is toast. Drive train is still good though. Major smoke damage in interior.

Many know about my Cherokee, is has the Klune-V crawler, my final low (was) 148:1, also have brand new 4.88s, 2 one month old 33-12.50-15 MT-Rs. Klune-V rapid air down valves. NP 231 with advance adaptors SYE kit. Dana 35 rear with Detroit and Dana 30 with lockright. The jeep is not worth repairing. Luckily the drive train componants are ok. I need to decide if I am going to part it out or sell the rig as whole. any suggestions? anybody with a Cherokee that wants to build a slow crawler can just swap in my drive train.

Thanks Scott Grigsby

Tammy Pike, Az State Land Dept. OHV Manager, took it upon herself to allow
permits to be sold by a few individuals and/or 4x4 shops to show how
important it is to "get these out to the public". Her immediate supervisor
HATES OHV. He has fought Tammy at every turn................ My personal
thoughts on this is 4-wheelers will again have permits, as will others
across the state, but until this initial problem with "where does the money
go"; "the OHV fund being STOLEN to balance the state deficit"; "Tammy's
position going away"; "ASLD wanting an OHV position but they don't want to
fund it";........ etc, etc, everything is on hold.

Those individuals and/or companies that still have permits can sell them but
no more will be distributed when these are gone.

I've attached an information sheet about the permits and where they can be
obtained............ excluding 4-Wheelers right now.

What is Tammy's supervisor's phone number? I want to
have a talk with him. I promise I will be nice. =)
