Kyle,

I'd start by checking all the bolts on Mike's side of the Jeep! Haha! Yeah, very possible that we left something loose under there as we were all getting really tired. I know for sure that the track-bar bolt on my side (drivers) was still loose late into the project. We had left it loose to help line the other side up. I don't remember getting back to it.

And glad Mike found your wrench. Was dumb luck that I was checking emails and was just about to go look thru my tool bag when I saw his reply.

Kyle,

I would agree with Stu, when I put your rear drive shaft in it looked fine. I would check those control arm bolts again since we had to remove them a second time to get the track bar on. As I suggested that night you may want to go through all of the bolts and double check them since we finished so late (or early depending on how you look at it).

I also checked my tool box and I did come back with and extra 3/8" ratchet, I can drop it off Sunday evening if that is ok? Otherwise e-mail me off-list and I can give you directions to my house and I can leave it somewhere you can grab it (I will be gone all day on Sunday). Sorry, must have been thrown in with my stuff during the late cleanup :)

Thanks, Yes im the one that just swapped the entire axle. I will chack the control arms and sway bar bolts.

Mike and tom can you check to see if you accidentally tool my socket wrench. My only one is missing after that night.

Thanks again,

Kyle..if you are the member that just swapped out the entire rear axle on his TJ..there is a pretty good chance that you might have a loose control arm bolt. This is a common cause of clunking, as the control arm moves a bit in the bracket when you apply gas or hit the brakes. I've also had clunks from a loose sway bar bolt (those can be amazingly noisy too).

All drives hafts can be slightly rotated..that is normal. If you have a rear automatic locker, they can rotate up to an 1/8 of a turn, and that is still normal for them.

I got my new rear in after the carnage. But I now have a clanking when I put pressure on the rear and again when I let off the gas. I crawled under it and I can move the drive shaft a small amount by hand. Its a very small amount but Im pretty sure its the cause. Is this normal? Something to worry about? What should I do? I dont remember it before the carnage.

And leave 'em alone, if you see them.. Around 75% of the venomous snakebites
each year, in this state, are whats called illegimate bites. The defination
of that is:
- The person sees the snake
- The person recongnizes the snake for what it is (venomous)
- The person precedes to screw with the snake, either trying to kill it,
catch it, make it mad, make it strike, etc.

A good precentage of those bites are to males that are out of work (defined
as either off, on vacation, playing hooky, etc), and alcohol or drugs are
involved.

Leave 'em alone..

I wanted to thank all those who helped me with advice and suggestions
on my harmonic balancer problem. I found out today, that when
replacing your bad HB, that you should compare the old one to the new
one. I placed them both on the counter and without any doubt you
could see that the collar on the old one was shorter than the new
one. Actually, the old one was a replacement not but only a few
months back. But with the shorter collar, the HB was rubbing on the
timming cover. It had not gone through as of yet, but did make a very
nice groove. According to the parts clerk, this is very common, so I
thought I would pass this info along so that you don't have the same
bad luck that I had,

Joe,

I forgot the update....

I went to AutoZone and had them hook up to it. Guess what, bad throttle
position sensor. I went inside with the guy and he looked it up, they don't
carry one for a '99. I had him look it up for a '98 and they did carry it
and even had one in stock. I got home replaced the sensor, no problem, reset
the computer and it is running great.

Thanks for all the help,

Ever since I got my TJ back from Darners it has been running rough. They
replaced the exhaust manifold and the fan controller/wiring (AC).
I have been suspecting that there is some kind of a vacuum leak since I got
it back. Last night the Jeep almost didn't make it home from Tempe and the
"Service Engine" light has been on since then, although it was running
better this AM.
I don't think a vacuum leak would have made it run extremely bad and then
just bad, I think it would be consistent. Can I get the codes off a '99?
without payng a mechanic? Should I reset the computer?

Any other help would be appreciated.

TIA

Actually, depending on the virus, it may not be from Joe..
Many of the viruses, simply pick a new from the mail box and use that as a
"From" address. Many of them, also, pull like the 1st xx number of addresses
from the persons mail box and e-mail themselves to those persons.. That's
why, depending on your name, you may be getting viruses from people and
someone else isn't, as there name could be further down on the infected
computers mail box list of names.
You can look at the header of the e-mail and determine if it really came
from Joe or not.

Fred

Subject: Warning: Powertrax No-slip design error

All,

As you may have read I had some problems installing a No-Slip on my
Dana 35c because the c-clips wouldn't fit thru the slots in No-slip
active spacers. Well I spoke with Powertrax this morning and it turns
out this was a design error and I'm not the first to have this
problem. Apparently, the slot was machined at the wrong angle and the
edges ended up with chambfers that the c-clips end up hitting on.

Anyways, if you plan to purchase one of these for a 35c then I would
verify that you don't have one with this problem before you begin the
install.

Powertrax is shipping me some new corrected parts. The thing that
pissed me off is that they wanted to ship UPS Ground from S.
Carolina. I told him that would take a week to get here and I think
they should ship overnight especially since this is their mistake and
I'm stuck without a vehicle. He told me shipping overnight is against
their policy!!! That just ticked me off. He's trying to get approval
from management and will get back with me. We're only talking maybe
$5 extra for overnight shipping and these things only weigh a few
ounces. Anyways, needless to say that didn't impress me one bit.

Anyways, buyer beware. Other than this though I think this is
probably a great product. I know the Zytanium that they make these
things from is EXTREMELY hard and I tried to drill open the slot edges
and that didn't even hardly scratch it. SOLID stuff.

The person at the counter was confused and wanted me to bring in my TPS and show him so he could get me the correct part (yeah, right).

So&.does anyone have the part # for a TPS for a 98 4.0L? The counter guy claims his books only go to 97 and that they made two different ones for that year.

Perhaps I should just find a different store but I thought I would ask here first.
