My wife, Vanda, works for one of these companies. The small, privately
owned business she has worked for a few years has recently been purchased by
a corporation listed below. They seem to be a good company, and Vanda is
real happy there. In fact, her pay has increased quite a bit since the
buyout.

If everyone, or even many, were to boycott her company, she could quite
possibly lose her job, or at least a good chunk of her paycheck.

I hate the French as much as the next guy, but hey, I NEED JEEP PARTS. Think
about who may be losing by boycotting French companies. It just may be a
red-blooded American jeeper trying to make a living.

Probably not, but Hachette Filipacchi publishes some magazines you may have

Thanks for all the replies, both on and off list. You've given me a
lot to think about. I have to admit that so far I'm still leaning
toward the Bulletproof as I like the warranty and options that they
have but haven't ruled any of the others out just yet. The
Bulletproof I'm looking at has the tire carrier, air tank conversion,
Hi Lift jack mount, 2 gerry can holders, shackle mounts with
D-rings, stubby tire mount to hold the spare tire close to the
tailgate when not carrying gerry cans, 2" reciever, tow hook, and
the ability to mount a rack. None of the others I've seen so far
have all these options. My only real concern is the weight...

I'm also looking into building my own with the help of a good
friend of mine who does metal fabrication but I'm not sure we
could incorporate all the above options into it.

Rob, thanks for your offer to answer questions if I decide to build
my own. I'll take you up on that if I go that route.

Have a good day
Brad

"When I pay him, he signs the tile over to me."

No.

He doesn't have the title, free and clear. If you are paying cash,
and there is a lien you pay the lien holder FIRST to release the
title, and any extra moneys to the liscense holder AFTER THAT.

The exposure is this: He asks, say $10k, you pay $10k, but he owes
$11k, takes your $10k and sends it to the bank, but the title is not
released. You don't own it. Then you go to court with him, blah,
blah blah. You loose. You need to talk to the lien holder directly,
or have an agent on your behalf (your bank) talk to the lien holder.
Your funds must go directly to the lien holder.

Be advised IANAL, and not offering a legal opinion.

That would depend on which Jeep you have.... if it's a Rubicon I
would say a lift, since you already have a 4:1 T-case, lockers
decent tires and all that great stuff. None the less I would say
tires, discos, rocker protection, cb, survival kit (tow straps, fire
ext, bandages, flares etc...) Then you can start thinking about
lift/wheels/tires/lockers. Then again... that's my opinion... -Rob

You must be referring to the 93, 94 and 95 ZJ....(did they make a 92 model? Everything I have ever seen says the 1st year was 93 although they might have introduced it earlier).........96 and newer had them part of the bumper cover below the bumper (the lens wont fall out but they will break if you hit something and probably crack your bumper cover too)......yeah they did have a problem with the glass falling out of the 95-95's, after they were a few years old......replacement lens at the Jeep dealer are not that expensive.....if you are breaking them, you will break anything else you put on there since they are mounted on top of the bumper, what are you hitting to break them? I would think any aftermarket light would work, there are two holes that the base of the lights go thru, a pain in the *** to get them off.........I have never broke one on my 93 although the glass fell out of one side at 125K last year and the other fell out at 141K this year. I dont think that was too bad for 9 and 10 years old. My suggestion would be to just buy the replacement lens at the dealer (less than $20 if I remember) and fix it -or- go all out and get an ARB bumper to protect your fog lights :-) Yeah I can be a smart *** sometimes.......like the guy that told me to lift my ZJ 3 inches higher :-)

Hey good luck.

Yes the biggest concern is the weight. I can remember more than one time feeling myself start to go over backwards, I can imaging the weight of two gas cans and the rest with my 35" tire sticking out another 6-8" more would have been all I needed to tip the rest of the way over and doing somersaults.......talk to John at Hunters, he will give it to you straight and make you a nice one, without the gas can holders. If you need the can holders, I am getting ready to do a set up on mine that might interest you, I should be done with it in two weeks and can email you pictures.

Subject: Re: Which mods first?

Here's my two cents:

1.) S/B disconnects - This probably has the highest bang for your
buck and only costs around $50-$100.

2.) Skid Plates - After your own safety the safety of your Jeep is
next so preventing major damage should be a high priority. I would
go with an engine skid and rocker panels first, then diff guards, and
then maybe steering box and lower control arm skids when money
permits.

3.) Lift and big tires - Increasing ground clearance reduces chance
of damage and allows you to go on more difficult trails so its
important. Beware though this one opens up a whole can of worms so
do the minimum amount for the tires you need to do the trails you
want and nothing more. Worms include vibrations, loss of power,
etc. Once you fix all the extra problems I think this one may have
the lowest bang for your buck in my opinion.

4.) Lockers - Now that you've got your Jeep well protected you can
focus on improvements to allow it to go more places and this is
probably the most important one. Start with the rear and then maybe
go to the front if needed.

I guess that's all the basics and of course there's lot
more "advanced" mods you can do but I haven't really looked into any
of those yet. I'll probably do all of the above and then call it
quits for a while and enjoy all my work. I've currently completed #1
and #3 (plus the vibration worm) and will be doing #2 and #4 this
weekend. I kind of went out of this order mainly because I just
decided to do them pretty much all together. Of course all of these
comments are just my opinion and I'm pretty new to this but I've done
a fair amount of research and got lots of comments from my helpful
fellow club members on the above mods since I'm in the progress of
doing them.

He still should be paying to a local bank. I paid cash for my Jeep to a

You actually trust him to mail a check to Chrysler after you pay him cash ?????

I would find out if Chrysler has an office in PHX and do it there in person.

For a TJ I would say:
1 Rockergaurds
2 Disconnects but I just unbolt mine before & reatach after a
trail(just the top half).
3 budget lift or body lift to fit 31s(negitive effects are slim
to none).
4 31s I have a zj on 31" MTRs and I have a blast. I have done
Upper Woodpecker, Martinez canyon, sunflower mine & more.
5 Locker If you dont have a limited slip, put it in the rear,
but if you do I'd put it up front.
6 This is pretty much where I am at right now. I am currently
modifying my floor for my own custom belly up crossmember and skid.
After this my next mod will probably be a snorkel(just the other day
my brother blew his motor wide open on the sunflower mine trail, I
was lucky the same didnt happen to me).
