Yup, I just called over and the guy who answered the phone spent some time with me and pointed me towards the copper slag as well. Thanks for the recommendation, Shawn! BTW, they're open 8-4:30 and their address is 4302 East Winslow in Phoenix, in case anyone else in interested.

Bill,
Call Peck's Coating Supply Co. 602-269-6279
I was looking around for "blasting" materials last weekend, and after one call to peck's I knew where I was going. Very informative and knowledgeable. Better prices than I found around also: 100lb bag of 30/60 copper slag was $8.95 !!!!! This stuff is awsome!!! Took paint and 20 year old grime off some brackets in seconds!!!! 50 lb glass beads for $24.95..
Look at the bracket:

Peck's is over by 44th and university.

Good luck,
Shawn

P.S. He was a Jeeper, and his brother is into Jeeps too!!!! I should have asked him for a discount for the club.... I will next time!!!!

Does anyone know where I can get some abrasives for restorative sandblasting? I considered silica sand, which I can get at Home Depot but I'd like to pay a bit more for something like Starblast XL which has almost no silica and much less dust. I've done some reading on sandblasting and I have some health concerns with using silica sand. I'm taking notes so anyone else here who wants to venture into sandblasting their rig might benefit from this info also.

Thanks,
Bill

You can aquire one, via mail, from the Arizona State Land Department. They
have a web site with the details and you can call them via phone (which I
usually do) and have them send me an application in the mail. (Their valley
office is located in downtown Phoenix.) It takes a couple of minutes to
fill out and return. I usually have the permit back in a couple
days....without any standing or driving involved! (the best part of the
whole deal!)

I was in 4 Wheelers the other day and they said that they don't sell
them any more. Anyone know what Gov't office a person would have to
go stand in line in to get one, cuz I was out there yesterday and I
don't have one.

Fat Bob,

You said you wanted to go on live aboard SCUBA dive trip... well, I've
chartered a boat to dive the Channel Islands (off the California coast near
Santa Barbara)... May 15th through 17th... all the air you can use, all the
food you can eat, and all the dives you can stand; $285.

Let me know if you are interested... We will be driving to Santa Barbara in
a Caravan. The trip is aboard Truth Aquatics and you'll be sleeping two
nights out at sea (yes, they have private sleeping quarters (bunks)).

If anyone else is interested... let me know.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

According to Barry, they can't get them anymore because the people that
they got them from are now all unemployed. The state let go of everyone
in that group.

I wonder how this affects getting STL permits from the state itself?

I can't imagine that this would be the issue... it was a public service kind
of thing....
It certainly brought in foot traffic.

Same here, Stu. But it has taken longer than a few days to get the permit after sending in the form...especially the last time I did it. To cover me in the meantime (if my old permit expires before the new on arrives), I just carry a copy of the completed form and a copy of the check I paid with. Seems like that would work...as long as the ranger/sheriff was in a good mood. But I've never had to test it yet. Of course, I've never come across an officer or been asked to show a permit, period.

I just talked with Nancy at the at the Public Lands office. She said the
permits are now only available from them so, like Stu said, just call them
for an application. I also asked who the family permit covers. She said it
covers two adults (husband/wife) and up to two children 14 years old and
under (I believe).

All,
I guess I represent the technical side of the group. I run a small IT consulting and software business in the airpark. And, since I love the four wheel hobby, it makes working in that arena much more fun. I was wondering if anyone had any needs or leads for IT stuff. I'd love to get in and do IT stuff for local four wheel businesses, that makes work more fun. Anyway, just thought I'd ask!
Hope all is well. I guess it's getting about time for that air conditioner again!! :( :(

I did get caught in one in March in Chandler and did not notice a

I knew to expect a ticket in the mail which I did get. Still have to
go to DDS for that one.

I didn't any cameras around the Granite Reed & Scottsdale

did not see any ... so I think I'm OK.

Oh, I forgot to ask ...
What is the "despammed" in the Subject for?

I did get caught in one in March in Chandler and did not notice a
flash, but I did see all off the equipment (cameras) on the poles and
I knew to expect a ticket in the mail which I did get. Still have to
go to DDS for that one.

I didn't any cameras around the Granite Reed & Scottsdale
intersection this morning but on my way home I looked around there and
did not see any ... so I think I'm OK.

The Cracks are between Heber and Holbrook. I would love to have
someone to go with. Please email me if interested.

It is an antispam email address. What you do is go to www.despammed.com and
sign up. You tell it what you want your email address to be and where you
want it forwarded. I have a real email through cox.net but I only use my
nnote@d... address in public. Any email sent there is filtered
and forwarded to my cox account. I used to get 50 to 60 junk mails a day
but since I went to using my despammed address only, I've got maybe 2 in the
last six months. You can forward those to despammed.com and they will add
that domain to the filter. It is one of the BEST things I've ever found on
the net. Oh and it free.

Subject: Buying a used vehicle in AZ...Help

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has recently bought a used vehicle from a
private party that still has a bank lien on it?

Here is my problem. I want to buy a 2000 Grand Cherokee outright
from a guy. He still has a lien on the truck through Chrysler. When
I pay him, he signs the tile over to me. Then he removes the plate.
I put the 3 day temporary tag on the truck. Now the only problem is
that I still can not transfer the title or register the truck without
the lien release. He has to take the money to the bank, get a
cashiers check, mail it to Chrysler and wait for the release to be
sent back. Then I can register the vehicle and call it mine. Right?

Am I missing something, or is this how it is supposed to go now? Am
I leaving myself open to potential problems in not getting the lien
release when I give up the cash?

Any advice or recent experiences would certainly be appreciated.

Mike

I know ford has a finance office here in phoenix, where you can go
and get lein releases right away. I don't know if chrysler does?
If so he could get it the day you pay him.???????
