k.
thanks.
I'm new to this e-mail thing, so I'd not seen it discussed earlier... applogies.
I have been crawling around those trails for a couple of years and had no idea a permit is required.
Is there a message form or someplace other than the e-mail notification system.
Sorry for the uneducated questions, and for changing the subject

This is certainly not new news.. It's been discussed here, on the az_vcj
listserver close to a zillion times in the last year.. :)
Most of the trails in the Florence/Florence Jtn are, themselves, not on STL,
but you go through STL to get to them and therefore are required to have a
STL permit.. The fine is $500.00 for not having one.
It's also been posted here, a zillion times (ok a few times less), recently,
that the Sheriff, etc., has been cracking down out there for the last year
or so..
I haven't been done to the River anytime lately, so I really don't know how
deep it is now.
Best,
Fred

Guys,
The Box Canyon trail, and possible through to the Martinez Cabins is
very senic. More so that the Coke Ovens run.. Someone told me, a few weeks
ago, the the CO run is a little more difficult now, as the rains have washed
out the steps a fair amount.. At any rate, doing all three would make for a
very long day, especially for you John, coming from Tucson..
The Box Canyon run is really easy, and continuing on to the Martinez Cabins
is also easy.. The views are great.. Lots of red/orange rocks. Box Canyon is
neat, with it's towing, verticle walls and all.
You will need a State Trust Land permit. John, you can get that downtown at
the State Building (here in Tucson).. It's $15.00 (for a full year) for an
individual, or $20.00 for a family (immediate family only, which includes
the children and parents only).
The STL permit is *NOT* per vehicle, it's per person !! Every one, either
via an individual permit, or family permit, needs one.. Remember, the permit
is not for a vehicle to recreate on State Trust Land, but rather for a
person to recreate on State Trust Land.
:)

No worries here. I just assumed (incorrectly on my part), that you were new
to the list..
I'm not sure where, in the Phoenix area to get the STL permits (I'm in
Tucson)..
You can get them from the State Building, for sure.. I believe that
4Wheelers, and maybe some of the other 4-wheel drive shops have them.
Someone will hopefully chime in here with some specifics for you.

I was in 4 Wheelers the other day and they said that they don't sell
them any more. Anyone know what Gov't office a person would have to
go stand in line in to get one, cuz I was out there yesterday and I
don't have one.

Subject: Credit bureaus allowed to release credit info 7/1/03:
Just wanted to let everyone know who hasn't already heard, the four major credit bureaus in the US will be allowed, starting July 1, to release your credit info, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc., to anyone who requests it. If you would like to 'opt out' of this release of your info, you can call 1-888-567-8688. It only takes a couple of minutes to do.
Once the message starts you'll choose option #2 (even though option #1 refers to this E-mail) and then option #3 - Be sure to listen closely, the first option is only for a two-year period. Make sure you wait until they prompt for the third option, which opts you out forever.
One thing more. It asks for your social security # at the end. Just press the # key. DO NOT ENTER YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY #

go stand in line in to get one, cuz I was out there yesterday and I

The last information that I have, is from Sandee, a month or so ago.
Martinez Canyon is not closed.
The Mill and all the Mines *ARE* on private property, and whether they have
signs yet or not, they are *OFF LIMITS*..
Please stay out of the mill and all of the mines, else this trail will
eventually be closed.
Best,
Fred

Subject: Still Lookin' for wheels
I am still looking for 2 - chrome 10 inch, standard offset wheels (5
on 5.5).
Does anyone know where I can find these used? I am looking to get
some before Monday (when I put some tires on them). I would like to
see what I can get used before I have Rick order them for me. If you
have any suggestions I would appreciate it. I have already been to
one wheel place and the 10 inch wheels are hard to find used. FYI -
the 8 inch are a dime a dozen!

Not sure on what the whole story is.

Someone used to make a cap but I don't know of anything that fits perfectly.
I've heard of people trying spray can caps and duct taping them on but I
don't think it would hold up for much road travel. Yet another reason to go
with a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) someday.
Good luck.

Hey all, this is Nick, I'm at Kyle's right now checking out his rig.
Anyone happen to have one of those plastic cap you stick into the back of
the xfer case to stop the oil from draining? It might be his only option at
the moment to pull out the rear drive shaft and cruise around in front wheel
drive. Or, if anyone else has a similiar suggestion to stop the oil from
pouring out....
Nick

Subject: Emissions woes
As some of you may know (and even fewer of you may care), my rig has
been out of comission since my last rollover, which, oddly, coincided
with my tags running out and miserably failing emissions in all three
categories (grin).
In an attempt to make my junk more streetworthy, I'm going down in
tire size to 37s. However, still need to get through emissions. Anyone
have insight on what you did to get your rig through? My first thought
is a bad O2 sensor, perhaps MAP sensor as well. I do have a hollowed
cat, but it was pretty bad the first time through emissions and the
rig passed with flying colors that time.
Any input is appreciated. Post here or hit me direct at

Bill,
Call Peck's Coating Supply Co. 602-269-6279
I was looking around for "blasting" materials last weekend, and after one call to peck's I knew where I was going. Very informative and knowledgeable. Better prices than I found around also: 100lb bag of 30/60 copper slag was $8.95 !!!!! This stuff is awsome!!! Took paint and 20 year old grime off some brackets in seconds!!!! 50 lb glass beads for $24.95..
Look at the bracket:
Peck's is over by 44th and university.
Good luck,
Shawn
P.S. He was a Jeeper, and his brother is into Jeeps too!!!! I should have asked him for a discount for the club.... I will next time!!!!

Does anyone know where I can get some abrasives for restorative sandblasting? I considered silica sand, which I can get at Home Depot but I'd like to pay a bit more for something like Starblast XL which has almost no silica and much less dust. I've done some reading on sandblasting and I have some health concerns with using silica sand. I'm taking notes so anyone else here who wants to venture into sandblasting their rig might benefit from this info also.

I would also suggest if you have those items (disconnects, 33's,

Did it yesterday - go to the Arizona Public Lands Information Center,
222 N. Central, Suite 101. Go to the gift shop and the nice young
lady will take your name, address, phone number and money. She'll
load you up with info pamphlets and stuff, and give you your permit
and a rear-view mirror hanger. She'll also try to sell you books,
maps, etc., but she's very nice and not pushy - she just wants to be
helpful.
When you go, park in the parking garage on the south side of Van
Buren between Central and 1st Ave (across from the bus station) -
it's got a BIG red 'Parking' sign on the front of it. Take your
parking ticket with you - the nice young lady will validate it for
you and you won't have to pay.
Price is $15 for an individual, $20 for a family (defined as 'living
in the same household - basically wife/husband and kids). It's good
for a year, and they will send you a reminder notice in the mail next
year when your permit is about up...
Hope this helps,
David

k.

Hope this message doesn't offend anyone, I have confidence that it is a LEGIT message.
Thought this might be of some use ...
PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK AND YOUR PERSONAL FRIENDS.

Hope this message doesn't offend anyone, I have confidence that it is a LEGIT message.
Thought this might be of some use ...
PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK AND YOUR PERSONAL FRIENDS.

Thanks,

They weren't so much saying, but they did direct me to 1616 W. Adams,

Nick

Thanks,

I would also suggest if you have those items (disconnects, 33's,
bigger lift etc...) that you install them on your Jeep and not put
them in your mouth, might be a bit more effective.

Subject: Re: Box Canyon or Martinez Cabin?
Hope this helps,
David
