Subject: Box Canyon or Martinez Cabin?
I'm very much interested in doing either Box Canyon or Martinez Cabin
some weekend soon. Any chance anyone is interested in leading a run
on one of these trails or on any other ~3.0 trails in the Florence
area? I've seen some discussion on doing a Martinez Canyon run this
weekend but that's too advanced for me or my Jeep as of yet. I've
not been to the Florence area yet and I've been wanting to go there
for quite some time. I love the Sedona area and and the thought of
some closer red rock country sounds very appealing.
Anyone wany to post a run on these trails? If anyone has plans of
doing either of these trails but don't want to really post a formal
run I sure would be interested in going along if you don't mind
(weekends only). Just send me an email at jcteel1 @ earthlink.net
Thanks,
John Teel (Tucson)

There are a few high quality bumpers on the market, so one of the things to consider, is the look you are after and how it fits what you will be doing. Also, do you currently have a front bumper and what style it is. Most people like the front and rear bumpers to match.
Several people in the club, including myself, have bumpers from Toys by Troy, http://www.toysbytroy.com.
These are heavy duty steel tube bumpers, and are extremely strong and fit the jeep nicely. The are lighter than the square steel type, which is a nice plus and they are also local, so no shipping. I have been very pleased with mine.
Good luck with what ever you get.

I had a 75WX ST briefly and loved it but found it got WAY too dusty in my
open top YJ. Perhaps it could take the abuse but it didn't feel right since
the CB is a good looking piece of electronic equipment. So I gave mine away
and bought a cheapie $10 cb that I use almost exclusively for trail runs and
that's been working very well for me.

Bill,
Yeah, that's why I also asked if anyone was interested in going on
one of these trails unofficially. LOL I think the idea of *leading*
an official posted run makes some people a bit nervous since that
sounds like an aweful lot of responsibility (it does me anyways) and
like your expected to be an expert on that trail.
Anyways, I'm interested in going. I prefer Sunday but either day is
fine. So I take it you've been on these trails before? I don't
think a "leader" is really necessary (unless someone wants to) as
long as we have at least one person who knows the trail. So which is
generally more scenic: Box Canyon, Martinez Cabin, or Coke Ovens?
Which is the most fun to drive? In your opinion or whoever answers,
of course. If you do either MC or CO you automatically do Box Canyon
since if you come from the south you (can) go thru Box Canyon to
reach the other two, right? Is it a reasonable day trip to go up
thru Box Canyon and then go hit both the Coke Ovens and Martinez
Cabin without requiring a dawn to dusk run? Personally I prefer to
keep it short if hitting all three requires a super early start.
Thanks,
John

I have had 2 Bulletproof bumpers and now own 1/2 of one. I sold the rear

cutting and welding done on it. They are excellent bumpers but I did not
care for the extreme weight which had a very negative effect on trail and
street performance.

I have two Bulletproof bumpers, they have benefits and drawbacks:
Benefits:
High Quality (maybe the highest)
Lifetime guarantee (you break it, they replace it, no questions asked)
Drawbacks:
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
Did I say Heavy?
All in all... If I had to purchase another bumper; it would be bulletproof.

Hey all! Ive been looking over this tranny and t-case that I have here (T350 and D300) and when I put the tcase in 2-wheel drive and wiggle the rear output on the tcase, there is a LITTLE play, and a small clunking sound that seems to be coming from the turbo 350. Should the T350 make ANY noises when parts are being moved? Its not in a vehicle right now, and its only connected to a t-case. I know I can re-tube the D44 to work on my TJ, but can I get gears that low for these axles?

Hi Michael,
I don't know if 5.13:1 ratio is available for the 12 bolt Chevy rear axle... but it certainly is for the front Dana 44. Scott Kruize has this ratio installed in his rig and I suspect it is plenty strong enough to run 38" tires. I've had bad luck in the past with 12 bolt Chevrolet rear axles though... any chance you can find a Dana 60 or Ford 9"?

Yes, you can.
I run 5.14's in my 44 front.
I wouldn't recommend 38's unless your planning on upgrading to alloy
axles & CTM or OX u-joints. I was breaking u-joints (& axle ears)
fairly often with stock axles, 297's, & 37's.
As for the rear, If you don't already have the 12 bolt, Why not go 14
bolt? There cheap, Can be shaved for clearance fairly easily, & are
bulletproof up to 44" boggers & huge amounts of torque. Only
drawback is they are HEAVY & are a plow unshaved with only 38's
As soon as I break my 1st 9 inch axle shaft, I'm going 14 bolt.
BTW: I know for the TJ's it takes a lot more modification &
fabrication, But,if you have the ability, dollar for dollar, you can
do a front 60 for not much more $$$ then a 44.
You asked for opinions :0)

I had a 75WX ST briefly and loved it but found it got WAY too dusty in my

the CB is a good looking piece of electronic equipment.

Thanks,
John

Benefits:
High Quality (maybe the highest)
Lifetime guarantee (you break it, they replace it, no questions asked)
Drawbacks:
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
Did I say Heavy?
All in all... If I had to purchase another bumper; it would be bulletproof.

Hi Michael,
I don't know if 5.13:1 ratio is available for the 12 bolt Chevy rear axle... but it certainly is for the front Dana 44.

Thanks. Tell him that's ok and I'll forgive him this time :) Hopefully soon I'll be able to dress like Sharky and get some free stuff!

pretty bad but I'm almost positive that's not what's causing the
problem. I still have a consistant clunking sound, in the front
right and possibly the front left, when at low speeds not braking or
accelerating. I HAVE NO CLUE what's going on. There seems to be no
rubbing of any parts. HELP! Anyone know where I can go to
a "trusting" mechanic to have them check it out. I basically just
need to find out what the problem is and then I should be able to fix
it...hopefully. My Jeep's also idling VERY hard so I want to get
that checked out as well. Duffy, do you do mechanic work? Anyone
else? TIA...I appreciate it.

this started happening I replaced my front brake pads, but I did
nothing out of the ordinary. Any ideas what this might be or what to
look for to find the culprit? TIA

Hey now! I haven't swept any floors yet, besides mine. Maybe I'll start so I can get more free stuff.

Who's garage will you sweep while he's gone? You can come sweep mine
