This is the response I sent Shela.

Shela thank you for your response to the problem that Sandee addressed. I am
very happy to know that no more closures have been made. But I would like to
address something we discussed repeatedly at our meeting. Communications!!!
Perhaps if we were advised of these trail markers and their intent the
problem would not have been raised. It is obvious that you had the e-mail
addresses to do this as I am responding to an e-mail sent to me by you now.
Thank you again for clearing up this issue.

Subject: Cottonwood Canyon has not been closed

Sandee McCullen forwarded a concern on the closure of Cottonwood Canyon.
Apparently a rumor is circulating that the canyon has been closed
officially through signing. The canyon hasn't been officially closed.

Temporary signs were placed for use during the recent Arizona Classic
Bronco 4WD club event March 28-30 to avoid two sensitive areas during the
trips in Cottonwood. Four paper signs were posted stating "no Motor
Vehicles Beyond this Sign and/or Flagging". The signs were placed as
mitigation to avoid sensitive site features and petroglyphs which are
important to the Four Southern Tribes.

Passage through the canyon was not and is not affected--unless other
parties re-located the signs since the event weekend. The TFO staff had
intended on removing the signs during planned field work to record the
sites. The trip was delayed, however, so that the signs haven't been moved
yet. They will be removed at the next opportunity.

Please pass along the correct information. Thanks.

I drilled the hinge and pinned it. I just remove the pin on the trail and
pull them in. Works for me. Jim F.

Yes, and guess what, if you tighten too much you break the plastic
spacers. The Steelhorse aftermarket
mirrors kind of really suck, especially on a YJ. I'm planning on
reinforcing mine with some stock steel
strips and hose clamps. I'll let you know how this turns out.

Tony

P.S. Of course, if you reinforce the mirrors like I plan to do, the
first thing that'll happen when
you go offroad is that you'll hit a branch and instead of rotating
inward the mirror will just
break off altogether. *shrug*

I was planning on posting a run for may 3rd which is a saturday, but since I have been out to only those trails once or twice I'm not familiar with the area. I was looking for some Tucson experts to assist in this run out to Florence, I was looking to run martinez canyon or Flatire or another trail around 3.5+ to 4.0-, I will put the post up I would just like to get a leader for this run who has done these runs in the past. I'm also promoting this run so some tucson guys can join in on this. Also where is a good spot to meet for both Tucson and other wheelers in Phoenix and other areas. I would like to get a caravan of the Tucson wheelers to head up together. Thanks for the consideration and any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

I have some internet links that can help you figure out the current market
value. Email me off list with the serial numbers and I can try to help you
figure it out. I have sold 1911's from $400.00 to $4000.00 it really depends
on when it was made, amount of production, by whom (several manufacturers
made them during war time), and if and when it was issued etc.

Hi Brad,

I have two Bulletproof bumpers, they have benefits and drawbacks:

Benefits:

High Quality (maybe the highest)
Lifetime guarantee (you break it, they replace it, no questions asked)

Drawbacks:
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
Did I say Heavy?

All in all... If I had to purchase another bumper; it would be bulletproof.

Subject: [TR] Martinez Canyon - Saturday, April 12, 2003

Hello All,

Greg Kenny is leading a Martinez Canyon trail run on Saturday, April 12, 2003.

When: 8:30 meet roll 9:00 am
Where: meet at cottonwood canyon rd. between FJ and Florence
Rating: 4.0+
Length: whatever
CB Channel: 4

Will probably do Jackhandle as a warm up first. If you've never run Martinez bring a camera.

Martinez Canyon has to be one of the most beautiful canyons south of the Sedona AZ red bluffs. To reach the trailhead you travel over rolling hills of desert cactus, shrubs and trees. All of a sudden you enter a narrow passageway into a canyon of deep red bluffs and cottonwood trees.

Most of the year there is a spring that winds through the trees and low area. You will find the old homestead at the grouping of cottonwood trees along with some old mining generators and storerooms. Just past the homestead you will drop into the wash and follow it to the old mill.

The road winds back and forth across the wash as well as follows the wash for a time but the trail stays in the wash. You can spend hours "playing" on the rocks and waterfalls.

A mile or so into the wash you will approach a large landslide blocking the wash so the trail starts up the switchback trail "to the top of the world". The view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking.

As you start back down the switchback trail you will find it has been washed out, big time! The washout cuts through several of the "switchbacks" in a cut approximately 8 feet deep and 8 foot wide, so down you go. After a drop into the washout you will crank a hard left turn and literally freeslide on the loose gravel/dirt about 200 yards.

The first comment made from one of the original founders is the best description to the end of a great day of wheeling. "This is better than an 'E' Ticket ride at Disneyland! It's wheel'n the luge!"

This trail is definitely for the "extreme" vehicle as well as an experienced driver. Lockers are required and 33" tires and maximum clearance are a must.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

NOTE: 2/17/02 - I (Stu Olson) ran the trail yesterday and I believe it is safe to say that there is not much of a chance to "run the luge" anymore. I could be mistaken, but few (any?) would survive the drop into the luge. It is extrememly erroded now and the old bypass is now the main path down, IMO.

Eric, I may be up for Martinez that Saturday.. Upper Woodpecker would be another nice run in that general.. I'ld gladly lead that one..
It's starting to get hot around this time of the year, and it can really bake up around Florence, FJ area.. I've been considering a night run, or two up there in another month or so.
When we (Tucson people) head up that way, we normal meet and the McDonalds, at Oracle and McGee, and then meet the Phoenix people at either the Texico station (in Florence), or at the beginning of Cottonwood Road.
I'm probably going to be posting a run for the weekend after this coming one, for Lower Mansfield.. This is south of Tucson, at the south end of the Santa Rita Mountains, off the town of Patagonia.. This probably won't work for the Phoenix crew, as it'ld be a hell've drive for 'em..
This is a 3.5+ ~ 4.0 trail. Sort of like a wanna be Graveyard (Miners Revenge).. A couple of us ran it last Sunday. That's the first time that I've been down there since last year. It's really grown up, so this upcoming run will be a bit of a work run, to get some of the overgrown brush trimmed out (ripped my soft top on some of it)... It's tough on wheels and skids ;)

Best,
Fred (in Tucson ;) )

Go here http://boxcanyon.jamesrogers.net/

and if that doesn't work try this one

http://members.cox.net/topjimmy/jeep/boxcanyongallery/FrameSet.htm

If anyone wants bigger or full size versions (1800 x 1200) let me know and I
will e-mail them to you or give them to you on CD if you are bandwidth
challenged (they average around 500K and some are more than 1 MB). Some
turned out pretty good and might make good wallpaper.

1) Doing HTML by hand.
2) Mozilla is more forgiving about syntax errors than Internet Explorer.

This time should work (cross all fingers and toes).

Hi Brad,

I have two Bulletproof bumpers, they have benefits and drawbacks:

Benefits:

High Quality (maybe the highest)
Lifetime guarantee (you break it, they replace it, no questions asked)

Drawbacks:
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
Did I say Heavy?

All in all... If I had to purchase another bumper; it would be bulletproof.

I need to get a rear bumper/tire carrier for my TJ. I'm ready to
order one from Bulletproof but would like some input from this
group first. Is that a good choice? Any other recommendations?

Thanks
Brad
