Well the tstat on my 87 XJ took a dump last night. Anyway it's running just about the first mark (140* ?) with the a/c on and about ~165* with it off. So I think it's stuck open. Guess if I have to break open the system I might as well uipgrade to an open system. Any recommendations on where to get a radiator and what type?

Thanks
Keith

Subject: Update on Yellow Optima Batteries Group Buy

Well, I have do have some good news and some bad news. I thought I
would be getting new batteries but they are not. They are only 2
months old and pulled from ambulances to ensure that the ambulance
always has a new battery in it for safety reasons. My understanding
is that these batteries were not pushed hard at all and even in some
cases never used at all depending on the activity of the ambulance.
Good news is that they will be load tested, and will be just as good
as new. The guy who got one for me and one for himself thought they
were brand new because they had 0 signs of use. This probably
changes this for some of you that are interested, if you still want
one or two let me know.

Price will be set at $100. Also there is a limited supply of these
but I should be able to get enough over the next few weeks to get to
everyone. Please e-mail me if you are still interested.

Thanks,

Angel

Subject: Anyone know where to get a winch fixed?

I am looking at buying a used Ramsey winch from a co-worker of a
friend of mine. It's off his full size Ford-250 built into his
bumper, so I'm pretty sure it have an 8000 lb or larger rating on
it. Only problem is that is won't send let the cable spool out but
it can still pull. He only want $50 and I have to pull it from the
truck myself. Is this something I should look at or is it more
trouble than it's worth? Anyone in the group know how to fix a
winch or know of a company that does?

TIA,

Angel

Kyle,

Do you have enough help lined up to get this done tonight?

I have other obligations to take care of after work, but could
possibly stop by after dinner (between 7pm and 8pm?) if you think
you'll need the hands.

Will need directions, of course!

Because I dont have the tools or the knowledge to do it my self. I could

I have the complete wheel to wheel rear end. And the numbers on it are the

I'd suggest looking at it yourself before taking it somewhere. It
could be something as simple as a loose or broken wire in the remote
or at the solenoid.

Dave,

The factory hood vents are nice, but what purpose do they fulfill by
sitting over the air box and the battery? I vented my ZJ over the
exhaust manifold and it has proven itself in keeping the engine temps
down on the trails and slow city streets in the summer.

The Willys project is coming along. We have the gantry up and are
getting ready to start the frame swap.

I can tell you that the vents on my 98 5.9 Limited work well, you can feel the heat coming out of them for sure. I would have to think that Chrysler engineers did lots of tests and the like before they placed the vents where they did. It does the trick on my beast so I see no need to move them (and then have to fill in the holes)

OK Guys,

I am new to this and decided to buy a toy.
I have a 99 TJ. Need to lift and add
tires.

Which is best:
Terraflex
Rubicon
Rancho w/ body lift.

I want to add 33 x 12.5 tires. Do I have to change the drive shat and yoke?
What about the gear ratio? What is best ?

Any suggestions ? Thanks

Swapping in an axle is pretty easy if it's a bolt-in replacement.
Here is a likely sequence of steps:

(1) Drop rear driveshaft.

You can just disconnect the axle end of the shaft.

(2) Disconnect shocks.

You can just do lower ends and let them hang.

(3) Jack up Jeep and place on jackstands.

You'll want to place the jackstands under the frame
to let the rear axle/springs droop. This means you
need some tall jackstands or some wood blocks to put
under some shorter jackstands.

(3) Remove wheels and brake drums.

(4) Disconnect parking brake cables.

You have to do this at each rear wheel. (I think. I seem
to be spacing it on this.)

(5) Disconnect brakeline(s).

If the new axle comes with brakelines attached, then you'll
just need to disconnect the soft line from the hard line
T-fitting on the axle housing. Otherwise, you'll need to
remove the hard line from your axle to install on the new
axle. The breather tube attaches to a hollow bolt that
holds the T-fitting to the axle tube. Simply remove that
bolt to remove the T-fitting and hard line from the axle.
A brakeline wrench might be needed here as the brakeline
fittings are brass and a brakeline wrench will minimize
chances of rounding off the corners of the fittings.

(6) Remove the u-bolts the clamp the axle to the springs.

If your u-bolts are bent or the threads are messed up,
you might have trouble reusing them. Be prepared to
get new u-bolts.

(7) Place a jack under the axle and raise to take weight off
the springs.

(8) Raise jack enough to lift jack off the springs.

(9) Remove lower spring shackle bolt on one side and let
end of spring rest on the ground.

(10) Slide old axle out.

(11) Slide new axle into position.

(12) Reconnect everything in opposite order of above.

(13) Bleed brakes.

Make sure ahead of time that you have plenty of brake fluid.

Hope this helps.

-Roger

Great Writeup Roger... There are a few Changes since he has a TJ and not a
YJ.

No spring U-bolts to disconnect.
Disconnect rear trackbar at the axle end.
Disconnect Axle end of control arms (4 places)

I've probably forgotten something as well...

Sooooo...what's the bottom line? When do you need to have it rolling again? Is tonight a "must do"?

If it's your only transportation, we'll figure out something and hammer it out tonight. But if you can a wait a day or two, and get things planned out, that would be a bit easier.

Concerning tools, what do you have and what do you need? Got a floor jack and jack stands?

I'm a leaf spring guy, so would like some input you guys with the roundy-round springs concerning anything special for axle removal. Is the concept the same - support Jeep by frame, allow axle to droop and then simply unbolt everything?

Hello. I have a YJ and have had both stock mirrors and after market mirrors. The ones I have now are the Steelhorse replacement mirrors that were !supposed! to have dual focal points on them. Well, as it turns out, they don't. Anyway, I've tightened the torx screw as tight as I can get it and they still turn down when I hit highway speeds. Has anyone gotten the stock style mirrors to not do that? Can you put some goop in there somewhere or something? Also, to pass along some bad press to you guys, I bought the mirror relocation brackets also. Well, when you mount the passenger side mirror, it sits too far forward and you can't really see out of it. So, they are worthless for that reason. What a pain!

Yep, I bet those French *******s are playing "God Bless America" on
their accordians now. Too late. They don't get to have any Iraqi oil.

Yes, and guess what, if you tighten too much you break the plastic
spacers. The Steelhorse aftermarket
mirrors kind of really suck, especially on a YJ. I'm planning on
reinforcing mine with some stock steel
strips and hose clamps. I'll let you know how this turns out.

Tony

P.S. Of course, if you reinforce the mirrors like I plan to do, the
first thing that'll happen when
you go offroad is that you'll hit a branch and instead of rotating
inward the mirror will just
break off altogether. *shrug*

speaking of this gun I have two origanals of this model. One is blued in
perfect condition with about 7 orginal mags, the orginal wooden case,
cleaning kit and a couple of orginal bullets. Then i have another 1911 that
is pretty beat up appearance wise but still functions perfect. I inhearated
these from my wifes grandpa who was a WWII Army Major, tank commander.

Anyone know what these would be worth. can provide pictures of this would
help

Thanks
Shaun

Ok got the GDI 3 core radiator, heater valve and overflow bottle. Will pick up the hoses tomorrow. What's the easiest way to hook up the fan sensor? I was thinking about having a fitting put in the new radiator. Just tring to get everything covered before I tear it down tomorrow.

Thanks

We have another car but she works too. I REALLY need to try to get it
rolling tonight. I know its alot to ask for.
As far as tools... I dont have much. My floor jack is too small now with my
33" tires.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have some beer and will order Pizza
for anyone that comes and helps out.

If anyone can make it you can call me at 602-348-6457

Thanks,
Kyle

Sooooo...what's the bottom line? When do you need to have it rolling again?
Is tonight a "must do"?

If it's your only transportation, we'll figure out something and hammer it
out tonight. But if you can a wait a day or two, and get things planned
out, that would be a bit easier.

Concerning tools, what do you have and what do you need? Got a floor jack
and jack stands?

I'm a leaf spring guy, so would like some input you guys with the
roundy-round springs concerning anything special for axle removal. Is the
concept the same - support Jeep by frame, allow axle to droop and then
simply unbolt everything?

I have yet to get any confirmed help for today. But Im hoping a few show up.
Because I dont have the tools or the knowledge to do it my self. I could
probabally fumble through it but I hope it doesnt come to that. I really
need to have it fixed by tonight so I can goto work tomorrow.

I have the complete wheel to wheel rear end. And the numbers on it are the
same. So its an exact duplicate. So it will just bolt in.
