in FJ and drove all the way back home on the front driveshaft with the
locker. Acellerate pull right Decelerate pull Left! :)

Hey Gang,

Looks like things aren't falling into place for Kyle yet... the axle I had lined up for Kyle costs $300 and I just spoke to Kyle and he would prefer to use donated used parts instead of having to spend $300 for a low mileage complete axle (I don't own the axle in question; a friend of mine does). Perhaps he can repair whatever is broken with less expense...

If you have D35 parts you can donate... please shoot Kyle an email and let him know what you have... he is on his way home with the tow truck and his rig.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

On my way to work this morning all of a sudden there was thumping sound and I couldnt move any more. It appears my D35 rear blew out. I had to put it in 4wd and for about 10mph for about a quarter mile to get to work.

Can anybody help me with a spare and help me put it in?? I cant even get home this afternoon and I dont have the money right now to pay the dealer to put a new one in... I can tell anything about the problem by looking. But if I was to guess the gears inside broke off. It jumps when im moving.

Please Help me.... :(

If ANYONE can help please email me or call me on my Cell at 602-348-6457 or my Direst line at work at 480-481-7752

Right now im at 60th st and Thomas. Butif anyone can help I can have it towed some where.

Thanks in advance,
Kyle

I'm driving my 88 xj without a rear driveshaft right now because I am in
need of a new yoke on my rear axle. But I'm also pulling a little when I
accelerate and then it pushes the other direction when I decelerate. I
don't take any sharp corners obviously but I haven't had any trouble
driving 65 down the freeway with it. I just don't drive very long
distances is all.

In order to prove that the vibration problems I'm having are from the
angle on the rear driveshaft (I recently installed a lift) I removed
the rear driveshaft this weekend and drove it in 4H thus making it a
FWD. As I expected all abnormal vibrations were gone; however, it
behaved very strangely and the front wanted to really pull to the
side. I expected it to drive normally just as any front-wheel drive
vehicle but it didn't. I only drove it down the street and back so I
didn't experiment with the problem in detail. Is this normal or
should it drive normally under these conditions? I need to remove
the driveshaft again this week and drive it to the driveshaft shop
and I'm sure it will be fine if I drive slow and take the curves
carefully but I'm just curious what the problem could be. Any
ideas? It's a 2001 TJ with a Dana 35 rear and D30 front with a 5-spd
trans and the stock xfer case.

Well everybody,

I took your advice and I stripped the front tires off and checked the brake pads...nothing abnormal. Made sure the tires were both on straight and the lugs were tight. My control arm bushings look pretty bad but I'm almost positive that's not what's causing the problem. I still have a consistant clunking sound, in the front right and possibly the front left, when at low speeds not braking or accelerating. I HAVE NO CLUE what's going on. There seems to be no rubbing of any parts. HELP! Anyone know where I can go to a "trusting" mechanic to have them check it out. I basically just need to find out what the problem is and then I should be able to fix it...hopefully. My Jeep's also idling VERY hard so I want to get that checked out as well. Duffy, do you do mechanic work? Anyone else? TIA...I appreciate it.

A few days ago I noticed while idling I was hearing/feeling a weird clunk I think in the front. The sound/feeling is consistant with the wheels turning. This does not happen when I apply the brakes or gas and I only feel/hear it when going less than 10 mph. The day before this started happening I replaced my front brake pads, but I did nothing out of the ordinary. Any ideas what this might be or what to look for to find the culprit? TIA

Hey all, this is Nick, I'm at Kyle's right now checking out his rig. Anyone happen to have one of those plastic cap you stick into the back of the xfer case to stop the oil from draining? It might be his only option at the moment to pull out the rear drive shaft and cruise around in front wheel drive. Or, if anyone else has a similiar suggestion to stop the oil from pouring out....

Triple check your engine mounts. Also, I just had a new 4 inch suspension lift put on my jeep
and noticed a clunking sound while I was four-wheeling around New Mexico last weekend.
My engine mounts look OK, but I am gonna take the jeep in to the guy who put the lift kit
on and see if he can diagnose the clunking sound. It's coming from the right front of my jeep.
I will let you know what I find out.

Since I dont have any D35 parts, Ill simply make a comment here. $300 for a complete axle is a good deal if the gears in it are what you need and it is ready to drop into place. Labor for setting up gears runs $150 to $300, depending on who you have do it. Add another $100 for a master overhaul kit. You said the carrier and gears were both bad&.been too long since I priced those&.youll have to get a price on them yourself. Plus, assuming your axle shafts are not bad, you will have a pair of spare shafts (for free).

If the axle that Joe mentioned is literally plug and play, it is a pretty good deal, IMO. My last plug and play axle was over $2000.

Subject: RE: [az_vjc] PLEASE HELP MY JEEP!!

Joe West

Kyle,

I have a complete D35 axle... drum to drum ready to bolt in... nothing to assemble and it only has about 10,000 miles on it.

If you are interested... contact me at (602) 616-0785 or send me an email to my work (this) or home (arizonajeep@cox.net) email address.

Kyle

Hi All,

Well unfortunately the wife was involved in a car accident, not her
fault, and our Civic was totaled. So we are looking to moving up and
get a used Grand Cherokee. I was hoping for some input. Having only
owned CJs I am not familiar with the common problems one might look
for when buying a used Grand Cherokee. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Buy one in Moab, there will probably be some specials at the tech show at

Someone used to make a cap but I don't know of anything that fits perfectly. I've heard of people trying spray can caps and duct taping them on but I don't think it would hold up for much road travel. Yet another reason to go with a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) someday.

Good luck.

They seem to be a good company, and Vanda is real happy there. In fact, her pay has increased quite a bit since the buyout.

If everyone, or even many, were to boycott her company, she could quite possibly lose her job, or at least a good chunk of her paycheck.
