Are these an auxillary "extra" battery, or to replace the existing
battery?

Here's another big thanks to everyone that worked the training class
on Saturday. Jim you did a great job organizing the whole thing and
all the trainers, you did a great job working with everyone and
adjusting the various skill levels present. No matter what level we
were at I think I can safely say we all learned something! Great
Job!!

And I also want to thank Nasser for letting me ride along for the
waterfall (still kicking myself for not trying that one) and
Intimidator with Scott! That was the coolest!!

This is a great group and this is proven to me everytime I hang out

Thanks Again!! Happy Jeepin!

I have a fixed flow regulator that you can have (I believe it is 150lbs so
its too much for power tools but fine for tire inflation). Just shoot me an

Subject: RE: Acceleration question: 2WD vs 4WD

That depends on a lot of things, the largest variable being the driver, and his/her ability to control wheelspin.

Lets just say, typically, best acceleration happens with a controled amount of wheelspin out of the hole, this lets the motor stay in the powerband and avoids bogging down.

Tq convertors, gearing, traction avilable all play into it, and make the rules more complicated.

So, a basically stock I6 accelerating on pavement, 2wd with some spin on initial takeoff would produce best acceleration.

I know you are not supposed to use part time 4WD on dry pavement,
but...

All other things being equal, if I floor the gas pedal, from a dead
stop, on dry pavement, would I get the same acceleration if the Jeep
was in 4WD-high or in 2WD? Acceleration, not torque or HP, etc

(Am looking for the effect of variable amount of traction on a set
amount of torque.)

Get an XJ and you can use "full time" 4wd all the time!

Subject: Re: Tech Question 96 ZJ, V8

I have had similar problems with my 93 4.0L ZJ. The problem has been
with the throttle position sensor. I think I finally got a good part.
I was replacing them on a yearly basis because dirt would get into
the moving parts and they would fail. The TPS should have a dust
boot, but over time, the units either didn't have dust boots or the
dust boots didn't fit correctly on the TPS mount on the side of the
throttle body. It seemed like Jeep was redesigning the part every
year (or maybe they were assigning the wrong P/N to the 93 model
year). The problem with my ZJ is is that it is a early model and many
parts are the same as they used on the 92 XJs.

Anyway, I hope replacing the air idle motor did the job. I had that
fail once and the symptoms are very similar to a failing TPS.

On pavement, even if you don't hear/see tires squealing or smoking,
tires always slip some on quick acceleration. 4WD gives maximum
traction that can make up for some tire slippage. With 4 WD you have
more traction & less loss of torque so you accelerate faster than in
2WD.

The first thing racers do is put a posi in the rear end.....more traction,
better acceleration. (Dont see them putting too many 4wds on the race cars
though :)

Cool! I was planning a similar unit for the ZJ to replace the upper
control arms. Also called Torque Arms or Torque Bars, the concept has
been used on coil suspensions on automobiles and light trucks since
the mid-1960s. I figured it would be a good way of simplifying the
rear suspension on the Jeep. We built a second cross-member and
started the torque arm design. But Willys-fever struck and the idea
was shelved.

Anyway, you might have a customer for another anti-wrap bar when the
wagon is up and running. It'll need it. :-)

Probably not actually. It was probably some yuppy that thought it would
corner like a Porsche (they cost the same don't they?) and rolled it on
the street. They'll now sue GM for not telling them that it could tip
over.

I have a '90 YJ and want to upgrade the factory roll bar to the newer
style for better protection of the back seat. If you have upgraded
your cage and have one laying around in your yard, I'd appreciate if
you could drop me a line.

Thanks

Subject: RE: Acceleration question: 2WD vs 4WD

______,

Quick answer: No. More acceleration in 2wd.

Quick explanation: less power loss because of the added components
needed to turn the front tires.

Some may argue that 4wd has more traction thereby giving you more pull.
With enough power the front tires lift negating their benefit. Adding
more weight to keep them on the ground will also defeat the more
traction. Remember this is for on asphalt, off the line acceleration.

Acceleration is dictated by torque which is driven by horse power.
Engines have a power curve which is how you configure your gears for the
drive train.

Traction or friction is the amount/type of rubber you have in contact
with the asphalt.

If you are looking to go fast, driving a brick or aka "wind break" is
not recommended.
