I have a friend with a 4.2L that has some serious blow through problems. He was told the compression on a few cylinders was at 75 pounds. Though the jeep suprisingly runs well, he is looking to have it rebuilt. If anyone knows where he can get it done for a reasonable price, it would be appreciated. Also, is this problem brought on by bad rings? Thanks again.

Don't know if this is helpful, but one time I saw a guy applying
Easy-Off to a greasy V-8 engine that was sitting in the back
of his truck. He said it works great. I dunno, I thought that
Easy-Off was just sodium hydroxide (lye) in sprayable form.
I only thought lye works on animal grease, not petroleum grease.
But... it's worth a try.

Have you tried Simple Green? It comes in a concentrate form and is bio

I guess I would have to ask what year XJ is it. I have a 90 that has the closed system with no radiator cap.....the system is hard as hell to get the air out of. If this is the case, just be patient, it will clear itself (at least mine did) eventually. Try running it with the heater up on high. I would have to agree with some of the other posts with the "burping" or getting the air out of the system and the electric fan not functioning.........you could also have a problem with the thermostat. I put a 3 core rad in my 91 MJ, new thermostat, new hoses and still had problems with overheating. Part of my problem with that was my Warn winch and the two 6x8 off-road lights blocking the air from the grill, most of my problems were at highway speed in that though but it still seemed to run hotter than my 91 XJ and my 92 YJ did at idle or any speed. I finally cut some holes in the hood and installed a YJ hood vent on either side of the hood and that seemed to move heat out of the engine compartment and it ran cooler after that..

I think you still need to click on "Join Now" in the list in the left window to join the group and agree to the code of conduct and then you can view the files. I signed in using a different e-mail address without doing the Join Now thing and got the same results you did.

Stu,

I think you need to setup a .net passport account. Click "sign in" on http://groups.msn.com and I think it will walk you through it. Since I am using MSN, I have automatic access so I have never had to do this. Let me know if you are successful. The web site link is

I just started creating my web page, so this is pretty new to me. MSN seems pretty restrictive to me. Who hosts your site? I am probably going to change ISPs in the near future.

Date: Sun Apr 6, 2003 10:45pm
Subject: Sideswiped!!

Running some errands around town and suddenly BLAM!! A Toyota
Corolla in the center lane decided to turn right when we were in the
right lane.

Their front passenger fender struck our Jeep in the middle of the
driver side door.

It was a glancing blow, but both vehicles were moving at a normal
rate of speed. The rear of our Jeep spun to the right, hopping along
the way. We ended up in the far right lane of eastbound traffic
facing west. We spun through the intersection coming to a rest on
the other side.

I took a quick walk around the Jeep looking for damage... and at that
time I couldn't see any! Then ended up taking TWO OR THREE quick
walks around the Jeep thinking I was imagining no damage! Still
nothing, and the deputies pointed out a little bit of paint, flare,
and tire damage that was readily visible. (stress will keep your eyes
from working properly)

There were two sets of witnesses who saw the entire thing. The
surprised look on their faces was pretty classic.

The other car pulled into the nearest parking lot. Jess thought I
was going to go after them because I couldn't see them.

I was on the phone to 911 when the Sheriff's patrol car pulled up.

They assessed the situation and had us pull in next to the three
ladies who had hit us. Surprise PD showed up and took a report,
issued a ticket to the ladies for an unsafe lane change.

Our Jeep got towed to the "hospital" and we are waiting to find out
the full extent of the damage.

More updates later!

Check http://www.geocities.com/sreggiedavis/accident.html to see the
pics!
