Just had my Rubicon aligned at Moore Chrysler/Jeep. It is the second
time that I have been to their service department and both times I
have been treated very professionally and with courtesy. If I had
missed that bump while skirting traffic at Reems and Olive I would
not have needed that alignment, but oh well.

Lot of bumps to skirt on that part of town... :-)

Subject: [TR] Broken Arrow - Saturday, April 5, 2003 - Reminder

Hello All,

Bill Ragan is leading a Broken Arrow trail run on Saturday, April 5, 2003.

When: Leaders meeting at 11:45 pm

We'll hit the trail around noon
Where: Meet at the trailhead.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 2 hours
CB Channel: 4

Update 4-4-03--

I've had something come up in the late afternoon, so I'd like to move the run's start time up 1 hour. This is a pretty run and I didn't want to hurry through it at all!
It sounds like there won't be more than 6-8 of us total.
As always, everyone's welcome!

Broken Arrow is a fun trail with great scenery. A stock Jeep can make this run and there are areas for those with built rigs to test and flex their suspension, such as the Crack. Pay attention to the signs, as part of this trail is a one-way loop.

A lot of Pink Jeeps share the trail so please put your best foot forward while representing our club. For many of the passengers on those Jeep tours, you are the first real off-roader they have ever seen (gosh, that is a scarey thought!) You will find that most of the pink drivers are pretty cool!

The Devil's Staircase is fun, and some members have been known to run it bottom-to-top. If you do, please post a look-out at the top to prevent someone from coming down while you are trying to go up.

It usually takes a couple of hours to make the loop, which allows ample time for pictures and a stop at Chicken Point for lunch (you did bring lunch, didn't you?)

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Please note. Due to unforseen circumstances, the start time has been
moved up 1 hour. We'll leave the trailhead around noon.

Hi Nichole,

Yep you opened up a can of worms. But by doing this it will help you make a choice which will be most certainly the right run. Always said get your duckies in order.

You have many types of lifts to choose from, spring under, spring over, coil , coil over etc. You need to be careful somewhat do to the narrow track wheel base.

As usual I prefer to talk face to face at work or call me on the phone and I will give you pros and cons on these option.

Hope to hear from you!

Nichole wrote:

Alright guys, I need some suggestions. I can't decide whether I just
want new springs for my jeep or if I should go all out and do a
spring over. I have heard just a little about both (good and bad). I
have put it off long enough.

I have a '78 CJ7 with a V8 (so power is not an issue on the road,
however this will put more strain on the axels if I'm not mistaken).
I am planning on purchasing new tires really soon (per my past post
asking your opinion on that) and was going with 33 MTR's, however I
had a bug put in my ear to do the spring over and jump to 35's. FYI:
I use my jeep 90% of the time for rock crawling and the remaining 10%
playing at the dunes (Thanksgiving).

I would love to hear all the information you could possibly throw at
me! Facts, personal experience, articles, the works. If I do this I
will be upgrading A LOT and want to make sure I know all the ins and
outs before I throw down a bunch of money (I am all too aware of the
can I am opening, I have prepared myself for a big bill).

I appreciate any input!

Thanks,
Nichole

I suppose it is possible that your drive shaft could be out of
balance. Probably not likely, though, assuming it is brand new.

Ken,

Why waste you hard-earned money on a new TJ Rubicon when you can buy
an awesome trail-ready ZJ for a heck of a lot less? ;-) Just kidding!
Go for it!

Hopefully I will have the ZJ in the SUV Trader soon. Wanna get the
new motor and stuff for the Willys.

Wow that is a lot to soak in! Thanks for all the info. and I may
just take you up on that offer to help! I'm no mechanic and wouldn't
know where to start but I definitely want to do the work myself so I
can learn how to do these things. I don't weld though, someone tried
to teach me and it got ugly. Lot's of practice required in that area!

And your right, those 60's will definitely have to wait. I don't
want to have to take out a loan! : )

Subject: Tech Question 96 ZJ, V8

My ZJ just started this problem, when I first start it in the morning, it starts and then immediately dies. If you keep the revs up, it will continue to run but as soon as you let off it dies again. It will do this until it gets warmed up and then it runs OK.
I have:

1. Had the battery and charging system checked - OK.
2. The computer shows no errors.
3. Full tank of gas.
4. I tried disconnecting the battery for an hour and it then starts up OK, but not sure if that is only because it warmed up earlier.
5. It is currently at the dealer and they can't figure it out either?
Thought with all the expertise from this club, someone would know. Anybody got any ideas?
Please respond to me directly (too), as my Yahoo is not working (but that's another story) :o)
TIA

Bob

Smitty,
Most hard to start or not starting problems are the result of the CPS going bad. You might want to check this and the wiring to the CPS. Hope this helps,

I need some help here..

My 95 YJ 2.5L, has begun to act up. It is very hard to start. It will crank but it will not fire right off. Sometimes it will take five minutes to get it to fire. I just changed the Distributor cap and rotor to see if that was it. but it is still doing it. I checked the spark plugs (Bosch Platinum) they look fine but they are over a year old. My next step is going to be new Sparkplug wires. Am I heading in the right direction. Could it be a Fuel pump? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Smitty

I had a similar problem with my 97. Check the IAC solenoid. It is
mounted on the back of the throttle body. The solenoid controls idle
speed when the engine is cold by opening a port on the throttle
body. If it is sticking or failing closed, the engine will die.
Start by making sure the port and solenoid are clean. You can get a
replacement from Pep Boys or any of the local parts stores.

Anyone at the parts counter. Just tell them AZVJC BEFORE they write

Yeah, Like I said, youll eventually need a traction bar. I went
without one for a few months and was ok, but then the springs started
to soften up and the wrap got progressively worse. If you dont get
one you will start breaking yokes on your driveshaft from binding.

They are fairly easy to make, for a simple but effective one you just
need 1.75" .120wall or bigger tube(10 feet should do), a 3/4 heim and
tube insert, 8 leaf spring bushings, some 1.5" tube for the bushings
(2' should do), some 1/4" or thicker plate to make the axle mount and
a shackle.

Anybody running Hyperlite et al electric fans? How do they hold up
out here in the summer with AC? Any gains in horse power or gas
mileage? Seams ideal since we have very few water crossings out here,
but how do they handle rockcrawling?

Thanks for you opinion.
