Tom,
Did "all tubes and hoses" go under? I'd say it's a no brainer. If you can
keep the price reasonable there is a market with this group, as well as the
hotrod, derert racers, etc.

Subject: Broken Arrow Trip Report
Dear Scott K, Joe W, and the entire AZVJC,
Howdy, gang! Although I was out of town and didn't get to
see "y'all" up here on Broken Arrow, I have been out on the trail
since then and have to say I am very impressed at the condition with
which you left the trail.
Usually, after every weekend, there are signs of someone who drove
off the trail, whacked a tree, etc. If I didn't know better, I would
think no one had been on the trail at all! My (cowboy) hat is off to
all of you! From the feedback I have had from Pink Jeep, the Forest
Service, and our own guides (A Day in the West - the yellow Jeeps),
the AZVJC really put on a great show.
Scott and Joe, I have to credit you both for all of the hard work you
put into making the event so smooth.
I am also glad to hear that the experience the group had with the
commercial companies was positive. Although Pink has a past record
of "owning" the trail, I, too, think that their guides are coming
around, maybe following the example of the AZVJC and the other Jeep
companies.
Wish I could have been there to see it! Glad y'all had fun!
Happy trails,
Nena

Anthony,
No doubt, someone has broken a few 4.88 gear sets somewhere along the way. However, this has been discussed at length on a number of on-line forums and the question was simple….”If you have broken a set of 4.88 gears, please post the details here.” Hundreds and hundreds of people viewed the thread and there were no first hand experiences posted. However, as always, the son of my ex-wife’s great uncle had a room mate in college who’s girl friend’s younger brother’s best friend knew someone in the 4WD club that heard a guy in the next county broke a set.
Anything can break, but the hype given to 4.88 gears being too small and popping is more of a wives tale than a factual piece of information.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the chances of stripping the gears on 4:88's with a 4.0 are high. I was told that from a member of the "Lo-Rangers" . I don't know much about that area of the jeep but I'm ready to learn.

Go to bed!
As far as your questions go... I would recommend that you put 4.88's in your rig. There are some discussions about the pinion being too small on the 4.88:1 gearset which could lead to failure... however; I have yet to hear of a single instance of this happening. I installed 4.56:1 gears in my rig and if I had to do it over; I'd go with 4.88:1 or even 5.13:1 (I have D44s... you could not get 5.13:1 for your rig)

I have been listening to the nay-sayers (is that spelled correctly?) in regards to Warn's 5 on 4.5" TJ hubs and how they will break on the trail, etc. Many of my friends in CA were running them before I installed mine. After I heard from them about the number of trips they all had taken to Johnson Valley and the fact that only one hub had actually suffered damage (the same number still holds to date), I installed mine without worrying about the "you are going to break" comments.
As I said in regards to the 4.88 gears, anything can break.....but some things don't actually break as often as some would have you believe. Randy S. indicated that he too hadn't seen the type of breakage that these gears supposedly have.

I believe this is a driving style issue more than anything else. Even spooled, if you coast thru turns, it isn't noticeable. When I get to upgrade, I would prefer a super35 with a spool, then it always acts the same all the time. You just have to learn how to drive it.

Cody,
Isn't it past your bedtime?
Kind Regards,

I believe this is a driving style issue more than anything else. Even spooled, if you coast thru turns, it isn't noticeable. When I get to upgrade, I would prefer a super35 with a spool, then it always acts the same all the time. You just have to learn how to drive it.

This is true, Michael.

Anthony,
No doubt, someone has broken a few 4.88 gear sets somewhere along the way.

Subject: [TR] Last Chance to Participate in Charity Run this Weekend
This Saturday there is a Charity run to help raise funds for the
ALLC (Arizona Literacy and Learning Center). They provide services
that help children and adults to cope with learning disabilities,
primarily Dyslexia. They also provide screenings to schools to
identify early on children that show signs, as well as education to
teachers so that they can help the students cope with the disability.
This weekend they are having a Road Rally, two legs will be on
pavement and one off road. The pavements courses have been set up
one as a nice historical trip across some of Arizona and the other a
more competative course using Tulip Diagrams. The off road trail is
the Desoto Mine trail. While this course does have some challenges
I would only rate it a 3.0. It is a very schenic trail running from
Cleator and ending up at the Senator Highway. We will then take the
Senator Highway up to Mayer where we will air up and then head into
Dewey for a BBQ and car show.
Please email me if you are interested and I will supply you with all
the addtional information.
Thanks,
Chris Rad

This trip is a charity run for the Arizona Literacy and Learning Center (ALLC). They provide comprehensive research based screenings, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals with speech/language and reading disabilities. We provide training for professionals along with promoting family and community awareness programs. The AZ Literacy &; Learning Center is part of a network of over 150 Scottish Rite Clinics, two hospitals and university programs in the United States. The center is a non-profit 501(c)(3), Arizona Corporation providing a free service to the community. We are also a Valley of the Sun United Way Primary Partner, and a member of the Dyslexia Centers of America.
The ALLC helps people cope with learing dissabilities, coping with things like Dyslexia so that children can be more productive in normal classrooms and adults with every day activities. This hits home at my house as my wife has had to live with Dyslexia. It can make school a very difficult place if you don't know how to read assignment, make sense of reading materials or communiate effectively with teachers or classmates. The ALLC is a very worth while organization and I hope some of you will join us.

guys standing on the trail in different places directing traffic.
I was initially irked because I thought that this was just to make sure his

were on the trail and moving, everything seemed to flow ok.
I stopped in your shop to say hello on Saturday, The gal you have behind the

Dear Scott K, Joe W, and the entire AZVJC,
Howdy, gang! Although I was out of town and didn't get to
see "y'all" up here on Broken Arrow, I have been out on the trail
since then and have to say I am very impressed at the condition with
which you left the trail.
Usually, after every weekend, there are signs of someone who drove

think no one had been on the trail at all! My (cowboy) hat is off to
all of you! From the feedback I have had from Pink Jeep, the Forest

the AZVJC really put on a great show.

Wish I could have been there to see it! Glad y'all had fun!

Anthony,
No doubt, someone has broken a few 4.88 gear sets somewhere along the way.

This is true, Michael.

Thanks,
Chris Rad

Subject: [TR] Unspecified - Saturday, April 5, 2003 - Reminder
Hello All,
Chris Radoccia is leading an Unspecified trail run on Saturday, April 5, 2003.
When: Meet at 7:00am, Drivers Meeting at 7:30am, Start Trail at 8:00am
Where: TBD
Rating: None
Length: All Day
CB Channel: 4
For more information please visit their website, a link to the registration form with more details is in the upper left hand corner. Of course you can always email me with any questions.

Hi Chris,
Is this a donate $X per mile or something of that nature? I didn't see how it was going to make money for the charity.
I wish I could join this one but my Jeep is down for repairs (again...)

I did'nt do it in my garage, but i did build a bar in my living
room. It cost less than $350. If you would like to come by and check
it out I live on the west side. I work second shift so let me know
when you can come by.

What I thought was interesting is that the pink jeep company actually had
guys standing on the trail in different places directing traffic.
I was initially irked because I thought that this was just to make sure his
tours didnt get slowed down...but it turned out to be a good idea as once we
were on the trail and moving, everything seemed to flow ok.
I stopped in your shop to say hello on Saturday, The gal you have behind the
counter was a sweetheart with the kids (5 and 1)....tell her I said thanks.
