Nasser,

I'm glad you had a decent experience with the pink jeep mafia...you're the
first one I've heard of that had something positive to say about them. I
used to wheel broken arrow about once a month in my Bronco (when I lived in
Flagstaff, pre red rock pass times). Sometimes alone, other times with 1-2
other rigs. I was always accommodating and friendly with them, and usually
got nothing but piss poor attitudes in return. Some times they were decent,
but they often acted like they owned the trail. Several times I was told to
leave because I wasn't supposed to be there. I gave a polite response and
asked them to call the ranger to remove me from public land.

Maybe it's a jeep thing...unfortunately I don't fit.

Hi Mitch,

I too have had nothing but good experiences with the Pink Jeeps... always
friendly and accommodating... perhaps this, like everything else in life is
simply a function of meeting the right people and perhaps having the right
attitude on both sides.
My guess is that things will continue to get better between the Pink Jeeps
and the azvjc. As more and more positive comments come in; I think the old
legacy of the Pink Jeeps being jerks will die a final death.

I'd bank on the fact that if they see an azvjc sticker on your rig; they
will treat you right from here on out.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Mitch-
I think some of those same Pink drivers are still there! :-)
As a local guy, I also hit that trail at least once a month, and it
seems to be just a luck of the draw as to what kind of attitude
you'll get from the pink drivers. I've also been told that "they"
own the trail, to which I "politely " responded with "Show me". :-)
Most of them are pretty cool, though. A few of them have seen me in
different rigs over the years, and wave no matter what.

Kristi,

Any luck on finding a rear seat donor? If not let me know. I've got one from my YJ sitting in the garage that you could borrow. I'm in the east Valley (near Baseline and Power). I'm at home in the evenings and will be around off and on this weekend...I'm sure we can work out a time for you to stop by if you need it. I think I only have a seat belt for one passenger back there, though.

Would love to run with you, but need to work during the week! Hmmm...do I feel a sick day coming on?

Hi,
I know it is a lot to ask, but is any one out there willing to lend a
rear seat and belts for an Yj for a few days next week???? I have a
family member coming to town and I would like to take them on a short
run thru Box Canyon or maybe some one would like to follow us out w/an
extra seat or two(?). We will be going out on the 8th or 9th.

Thank You!

I also am running a 20lb tank. I have an adjustable regulator from Phoenix
welding supply. It runs from 0 to 300 psi. So, you can air up tires fast
(pop beads on) or run it slower for air tools. The price list for parts is
on this page along with contact info for PWS..

k mart has a 2 ton hydraulic floor jack, two 2 ton jack stands and two wheel chocks for $25, is this a good deal or would an auto parts store be a better place to purchase these items?

Is it safe to have the CO2 tanks left in the Jeep in the middle of summer.
Exposed to the heat here?

I also am running a 20lb tank. I have an adjustable regulator from Phoenix
welding supply. It runs from 0 to 300 psi. So, you can air up tires fast
(pop beads on) or run it slower for air tools. The price list for parts is
on this page along with contact info for PWS..

CO2 is the most enert gas (next to nitrogen or straight air) that you can
possibly have. It is not flamable. The only thing that would be a concern is
if the tank is overfilled, this happened to Stu I believe and it blew the
safety valve out. This must have made for a cold jeep, but other than
that...I think its the safest bet- IMO

They seem safe enough, as long as they aren't overfilled.. Stu had one blow
off the safety valve..
I've carried mine in the Jeep for several years, with no problems.
Now, I would probably *not* carry it (nor a fire extunguisher ) inside a
Jeep with a hardtop, hard doors, completely rolled up and sealed, sitting
out in the sun during the summer. It can get extremely hot under those
conditions.

Best,
Fred

Brandon,

Is there something down stream of the regulator that drops that pressure
even more? It seems hard to imagine that the Coke going into my cup at
Burger King is at 100 PSI. With 100 PSI of air in my garage, I can blow a
liquid across the width of the garage! LOL

Most co2 beverages have the pressure at around 100-110 psi.
Every one I've ever worked with has been in that pressure range and
I've been in the Food Service Industry over 15 years. Soda
fountians, Icee Machines. Therefore most of that type gauage goes up
to 150.

Joe,

I kept mine in the Jeep all last summer and only had one issue with
it.....about 4 hours after a fill up, it blew out the 3000 PSI burst disc.
The weld shop over filled it (although they completely deny it....but they
gladly refunded my money and I stopped going there any more). I spoke with
a person in CA who does commercial gases for a living. He said a properly
filled CO2 tank can be stored half buried in the desert all summer long
without risk. The slight overfill in combination with summer heat causes a
very non-linear spike in tank pressure. I found some interesting reading
about this topic on the web.

Is it safe to have the CO2 tanks left in the Jeep in the middle of summer.
Exposed to the heat here?

I also am running a 20lb tank. I have an adjustable regulator from Phoenix
welding supply. It runs from 0 to 300 psi. So, you can air up tires fast
(pop beads on) or run it slower for air tools. The price list for parts is
on this page along with contact info for PWS..

Subject: Saturday's 4WD Workshop at the White Tanks

For those who plan on attending Saturday's 4WD workshop at the White Tanks,
I bring this up for your consideration.

I know that some of the land at the southern end of the White Tanks is BLM
and some of it is Arizona State Trust Land. I do not know which we will be
on during Saturday's get together. It might be one or the other or
both.....I don't have a land ownership map to refer to so I can't say.

So.....if it were me, I would play it safe and make sure I have a State
Trust Land recreation permit for myself and my family.

That being said, I carry one in my TJ along with the vehicle registration
and renew it once a year. That way, I never have to worry about being on
STL without a permit (such an easy $20 solution to the problem). I could
not imagine wheelin' in Arizona without the STL permit in the glovebox.

The permits can be obtained from several of the 4WD stores, such as 4
Wheelers Supply, as well as the State Trust Land office in down town
Phoenix. Sorry, I don't have phone numbers handy but they are in the phone
book for sure.

Looking forward to seeing new faces on Saturday.

Yes, the co2 and water mix into a "carbonater" to make carbonated
water before it enters the machine.

Joey,

I got my refillable fire extinguisher at Auto Safety House. It was a bit more then the cheapies at Home Depot but it came with a sturdy metal bracket.

Or are you talking about explosion hazards of fire extinguishers? I believe extinguishers can hold up to quite a bit of heat.

It's probably a good deal, total price wise, but it may not suit your needs.
The 2 ton floor jacks, generally don't have a much lift as the bigger 3 tons (and up), and normally don't have a large of lifting pad area.
If price is a big concern, Harbor Freight has 3 (or was it 3.5) ton floor jacks that are reasonably priced.. Quality wise, they aren't the best, but they certainly work.. Also they have 6 ton floor jacks reasonably priced. Those work great.. It's not that you need them to hold all that weight, it's more that the 6 tons allow your to get the Jeep way off the ground.

k mart has a 2 ton hydraulic floor jack, two 2 ton jack stands and two wheel chocks for $25, is this a good deal or would an auto parts store be a better place to purchase these items?

I got a cheapie like that once upon a time...they are fine. It works great
as a secondary jack, I have a better one for my primary. I use the big one
on the frame and then the smaller one on an axle or whatever. It won't have
a lot of travel on it (read- if you're lifted it likely won't even _reach_
your frame.) They can be handy at times though.

The 12 ton jacks at Harbor Freight are great for getting the frame up in the air and letting your axles droop all the way down, etc. The stink if you want to put them under the axles, but that is what they make smaller ones for! LOL
