Subject: CO2 setup???
I just "acquired" a 20lb CO2 tank from a friend and I'm planning on
setting it up for trail use on my Jeep.
Anyone out there have this type of setup on their rig?
Right now all I have is the tank, no regulator or anything. I'm going
to get one of those 50 foot coiled air lines and all of the
connections for airing up the tires after runs...Someone was telling
me that running CO2 was a bad idea since it's so cold on exit. Is
this so? I eventually want to set it up for airing tires and possibly
running air tools in a pinch.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have co2 and it fills up tires very fast and run air tools great.
They only get really cold when used constantly, over an extended
period. Filling up your tires you'll only get a little "tiny"
amount of frost on the reg.

If you use it on larger tires (maybe 35" or bigger), it will certainly
get cold. During the summer, when the humidity is up, the entire
regulator will turn white as the moisture condenses and then freezes on
it. But I've not had any problems with that affecting my filling up
tires. I used a hose especially designed for CO2 systems. While it
does get a bit stiff when used, it won't snap (break). I am not certain
if those coiled yellow hoses might suffer from that problem or not
(don't know, don't have one). Maybe someone else can comment on what
hose the use. I have a quick disconnect on the end of the hose so I can
easily switch between a tire chuck, air tool, etc. It is a nice system
to have on the trail (very portable in the 10# size). Your 20# tank
will weigh about 50# when it is full (more if it is steel). My 10#
aluminum tank is 14.5# empty.
It is also great for blowing the dust bunnies out of your computer!

Dan....what output pressure do those run at? I doubt beer or Coke is
dispensed at 125 PSI. A fixed regulator should run you about $35 or $40
(no gauges). Get one with a high flow rate (cuts down on the time you
are squatting next to your tire waiting for it to fill up).

Most co2 beverages have the pressure at around 100-110 psi.
Every one I've ever worked with has been in that pressure range and
I've been in the Food Service Industry over 15 years. Soda
fountians, Icee Machines. Therefore most of that type gauage goes up
to 150.

I run a 150psi static regulator from Williams Balloon and Helium Company. It
nets about 120 at the output. Fine for airing up, air tools and seating
beads, can't use for an air locker at that pressure however. The regulator
was about 40.00 and can be had in any pressure and in male or female out
put.

Subject: Broken Arrow Flight Seven Report; RE: How was the trip?
Good sometime Joe (not sure what time it is for you),
How's life in Japan? I'd like to visit that landmass some day.
The trip to Broken was absolutely fantastic. I wish you could have made it.
Oh, in case I forgot to tell you before; thanks for setting up that trip. I
had a blast. Here is how it went:
Flight Seven Story,
I took off in the morning at 6:45, to meet everybody at the Waffle House on
Bell and I-17. There were oodles of Jeeps there. We pretty much took off
at 7:30 in a 1-mile long caravan. I had my Arachnid looking YJ on the
trailer in tow behind the Durango, and stayed in the middle of the caravan
until we hot the Bloody Basin grades. I couldn't not the hold the 55 mph
speed with the Jeeps in the gear that I wanted. Soooo I accelerated and
cruised up the hill at 65-70 mph <grin>.
I kept up the speed and arrived at the meeting pot in Sedona around 8:45,
unloaded the trailer and met up with Kruize. The rest of the caravan pulled
up in 20minutes or so (they made a stop at Camp Verde). We got a head count
of the trip leaders, and could not account for Tom Le and Brandon Reid.
Scott had the drivers meeting and went over the rules (did a very nice job
too). The first group left at 10:00 followed by Scotts group at 10:15.
Scott assigned releasing the rest of the groups to Scott L and me. We had
the largest group, 11 Jeeps! I got together with Rick Beer and transferred
a couple of Jeepers to his group. We also combined groups 3 and 4 and made
an 8-jeep team there, which Kevin lead with Dan tail gunning.
Our group was the great. We had the ever-famous Darnella with her ZJ "Snow"
with us (she is a riot, first time AZVJC trip), Jason and family (white TJ),
Joe Shikany and family (TJ and first AZVJC trip), Brian and friend (Jason's
friends), Bob (Jason's friends), Scott Legge and Aaron, and Brandon Reid and
another AZVJC'er in his YJ made a late entry and joined us.
We held back for a while at the trailhead to let some Pink Jeeps go through
and also come out. That gave us a chance to get Joe's TJ in 4-lo. Scott
Legge (as well as Bob, and Joe himself) crawled under the Jeep and shifted
the t/c in 4-lo (this event is summarized :))
We finally got going with me in the lead, followed by Darnella and the rest
kept playing musical jeeps with, and with Scott L. bringing up the tail end.
I have to hand it to the Pink Jeep Tours folks. Class act is an
understatement. Every one of them that our group ran into, were very
cordial, and pleasant. I was floored! We definitely must acknowledge the
fact that they went out of their way to accommodate us. They had one guy
out the by "the stairs" all day, monitoring and directing traffic. I was
very impressed by their professionalism! Bravo Pink Jeep Tours.
Darnella made the trip very special, that first rock step that she crawled
up, or the next one that I had to stack a rock (I put it back when we were
done), with a little muscle nudge, and she made it. She drove her snow
right behind my Arachnid YJ. We have another one hooked! Joe Shikany was
also a first timer with his TJ, and he did so well, I didn't even hear from
him.
Everybody was having a great time, and I was taking it all in. Scott L. was
a great tail gunner, with Aaron providing the some amusement for us all. We
really had no trouble any were. Of course at the staircase, Darnella got a
little nervous (thanks to Aaron, LOL), but she's got the heart for this, and
plunged in. Legge got in the back seat with her and I was in the front
spotting her. She made it without a scratch to the white paint, nor running
me over. <grin>
We got back out by 2:00ish and called it good. Some folks went to have
lunch, and the rest dispersed.
Scott and Theresa Kruize, Scott L. (with passenger Aaron), and I pealed off
and headed to the Soldier Pass trail. Neither one of them had seen that
trail, so I led the way. It was a great cool down to the rest of the day.
It was very nice meeting Theresa as well. I kept asking her, what she had
done with the real Scott? <no flames>
After the trail run they headed to town to meet with Nena (the yellow Jeep
tours), and I waved goodbye. At the meeting spot I loaded the Arachnid on
the trailer (no other AZVJC'er in sight) and headed into the sunset by
myself. Solitude is a precious gift.
I have some pictures that I will post in a few days (after I get back from
my trip).
It was great meeting everybody I had a blast. Once again thanks to Scott
and Theresa for keeping the show going, and to Scott L. for being such a
great tail gunner, and the rest of the group leaders, and AZVJC'er for a
great showing.

Subject: RE: CO2 setup???

OK, I can't get the bolts off. The only two sockets my dad has that are
that big are 1 5/16" which is too big and 1 1/16" which is to small.
I've tried using everything I could think of out of his tool box but no
