You might also check with Interstate Steel on west Hatcher. I go up
there because I can never get any help at Glendale Steel.
Interstate has always been very helpful any time I there.

Subject: Update - 12pm Sat. troop support "run"

Hey guys, here's an update on stuff for the troop support "run" that starts at noon tomorrow. The
Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors will be out and driving around with
flags on their vehicles but they are attending the downtown event in the morning. Maybe I
can catch up with them then and see if they want to join us around noon.
Anyway, I now plan on attending the AM troop support run and this time I
have flags! I'll take pics (I'll limit the wide angle stuff) and video if I
can find some empty tape tonight. I have a few video camera mounts inside my
Jeep as well as one outside so I hope I can swing it. Maybe someone on the
group would be willing to digitize it when I'm done.

Even though I'm setup as the "leader" of the run that starts at Fiesta Mall,
I'm not the leader, unless I have to be. Others did a great job last week
and I'm happy to bring up the rear so I can take some pics along the way.
There is a slight chance I won't be there depending on how things go in the
AM but I'll definately be out and will be on channel 4 on the cb. I will
probably bring my cell phone and the number is 480-205-3571. So hopefully if
I'm not there at noon I'll find you somewhere along the way. Just look for
my YJ with flags on it :-). I don't have any of your cell phone numbers so
if hardly anyone shows up and you want to find me, just call.

I have no obligations until maybe 3 so this is my main project for the day.
Hope to see you there!

Hey just curious if any of the people (I know there are a few) that
are heading up to Sedona Saturday for the Sunday Broken Arrow run
want to get together Sat night for a beer or something. I'll be
getting up there early Sat evening (maybe 6-7pm or so). My wife
didn't want to go so I'll be going by myself (as usual on my
offroading adventures). If enough are interested I guess I could
post this as a trip like they did for the Sunday morning breakfast in
Phoenix before heading to Sedona. Anyways, if interested send me an
email at jcteel1@e....

Hello All,

Jeffrey Trujillo lead a trail run Saturday, March 22, 2003 across Unspecified

Well, we had a great turnout supporting our troops. We drove around Mesa, Tempe(Mill Ave.), Phx(Capitol and VA Hospital) showing flags and tootin' our horns. We also found some protestors on 24th and Camelback. We drove around them four times, the first time they thought we were with them, we supprised them the second time around(not telling how LOL). We had tons of possitive support from the community in general and all had a great time. You wouldn't believe the response you get from flying a flag from your vehicl, maybe because its a jeep on top of it :o) Anywho, we will be doing this again next weekend. Hope we get a bigger turnout, god only know our troops deserve it and so do their families. God Bless Our Troops!!

Hey all,

Does anyone have any pics of Johns ramp? With the number of people who are in the club there is a really good chance someone could see it. Not that there are a lot of ramps in town, but a pic is alwasy helpful.

Tim,

It sounds like your draglink is bent. That would explain the off center steering wheel and your death wobble.

On the rear axle it sounds like you may have a bent leaf spring, broken shackle, or maybe just the centering pin in the leafspring pack is broken.

Hello All,

Erik Vasquez lead a trail run Saturday, March 29, 2003 across Chivo Falls

Tom Deeren good buddy of mine decided to hit the trails with me, my YJ and his TJ. We sure did make that run fast. From the report I noticed no one else signed up probably due to the fact I only gave a single day heads up, so we left at 745-8 for the trails. Italian Trap and The beginning of the Devils staircase was blocked off so we couldn't play around there, but it was a crazy windy day. A lot of Atv's and bikes on the trails. Run went smoothly to the falls and back. No damages or breakdowns. Some minor rock rash, dings, and gas tank scratches(toms TJ) but overall fun day. Planning on making a Trip in a couple weeks to Florence area, hope to see some more Tucson Wheelers!

Im not sure what you mean by my draglink. Like I said Im not too familiar with this area of a vehicle yet, but Im learning a lot so far. My lower king pin on the drivers side is leaking something. Does that mean its bad? They were replaced about two years ago so Id think they would last longer than that. Then again I did get them all four at Auto Zone. But, thats the only thing I can find and Ive got no idea where to start looking. Everything looks normal to me under there. Old and Dirty!

My leaf springs dont look bent but my add-a-leafs were turned and on the drivers side they were rubbing the inside of my tire. Shackles are ok, but yes&.The centering pin is broken on both sides. Is there anyway to rig this so I can drive it to work this week? I dont get paid until this Friday and I have no money at all. Ive got the Jeep up on jacks right now in the middle of my parents driveway with the rear axle dropped and need to get it moved somehow either today or tomorrow.

And while Im under it today&..how do I adjust my E-Brake? It wont even hold the truck still in my driveway.

Tim,

My friend Joey replaced the stock centering pins with grade 8 hardware. It's fairly inexpensive to do.

The draglink is part of the steering. It runs from the pitman arm to the right side. Take a look at all of your steering parts for damage. Sometimes its not easy to see.

Subject: [az_vjc] My Rig Is Falling Apart

In the last couple of days my 88 XJ has birthed a crap load of new problems; My Steering wheel is turned about ¼ of a turn to the right when driving straight but when I let go of it the truck doesnt pull at all. I can hear a lot of rattling up front when going over bumps and stuff but cant figure out what is loose. I also get the fu$#(*g Death Wobble!!! My rear axle is messed up too. My passenger rear tire is closer to the back of the Jeep than my driver side rear tire. It is almost touching the fender flare. I get the death wobble at about 45-55 mph and thats it. Its the worst when getting off the freeway. (slowing down through that speed) I get a very minor vibration at all other times as well though. This rig has 211,8** miles on it and might just be about finished. I have no idea where to start looking. Im only 19 years old and dont know that much about this. I had the rig on jacks for awhile but was just clueless. If anybody could tell me where to start, or if there was anyone in the east valley that has the day off today or tomorrow and could come take a look at it, It would be greatly appreciated. You can give me a call at Home @ 480-854-7788. I live near Sossoman and the US60. Thanx

I would fix the cenering pins then worry about the steering wheel being off center. With the rear end not centered your jeep will not be running stright down the road.

I’m not sure what you mean by my draglink. Like I said I’m not too familiar with this area of a vehicle yet, but I’m learning a lot so far. My lower king pin on the drivers side is leaking something. Does that mean it’s bad? They were replaced about two years ago so I’d think they would last longer than that. Then again I did get them all four at Auto Zone. But, that’s the only thing I can find and I’ve got no idea where to start looking. Everything looks normal to me under there. Old and Dirty!

My leaf springs don’t look bent but my add-a-leafs were turned and on the drivers side they were rubbing the inside of my tire. Shackles are ok, but yes….The centering pin is broken on both sides. Is there anyway to rig this so I can drive it to work this week? I don’t get paid until this Friday and I have no money at all. I’ve got the Jeep up on jacks right now in the middle of my parents driveway with the rear axle dropped and need to get it moved somehow either today or tomorrow.

And while I’m under it today…..how do I adjust my E-Brake? It won’t even hold the truck still in my driveway.

Tim,

It sounds like your draglink is bent. That would explain the off center steering wheel and your death wobble.

On the rear axle it sounds like you may have a bent leaf spring, broken shackle, or maybe just the centering pin in the leafspring pack is broken.

Hello All,

Joe Bornkessel lead a trail run Saturday, March 29, 2003 across Terminator (Upper)

What a great day, the weather was perfect, the trail was a blast, and even though there were only two of us on the run it was perfect. Made it through the trail without any body damage or problems, only suffered a sidewall tire puncture. Looking forward to the next run!!

Timothy,

Here is a picture of a TJ front end with all the parts labeled. I know you have a YJ, but I think the parts and there position are about the same.
