And this is exactly why I like this great group ...
A comment was suggested , and informed people politely replied showing that
they had done the research . Great ! I just had one of my best friends join
up and the guy that is buying my old XJ is also . I refused to remove the
AZVJC stickers as I was selling it . Now I just need to pick up some new
ones for the 94XJ I just started on . Does anyone else have them besides Joe
West ( in Japan ) ?
Thanks guys,
Purple .

Purple,

I have seen 2 different ones available locally that have reflectors. One is
the Super 40 lights that I bought at The Lighthouse and the other is the
ones that Joe West bought at NAPA. Either one of these have the safety
reflector built into the edge of the lens. The ones from The Lighthouse have
a translucent reflector allowing more illuminated surface whereas the ones
from NAPA have a slightly reduced iluminated area compared to the Super 40
lights.

Either one of these is a great choice for tail lights. I'm glad that you
bring this up. I went to great lengths to find the right lights for my rig
and most people don't think about the reflector.

Regards,

Scott K

Just don't forget reflectors or reflector tape for the rear since most led
taillights don't have them. Safety first ... Maybe we should make some
reflective AZVJC stickers for our Jeeps .... Purple .

let our State Reps think they got away with this for free. If we do not
follow up on this we can kiss the OHV fund good bye for good. Jim F.

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to share some good news concerning the State OHV Funds
we are currently fighting for.

I just spoke with some friends that are in the Creepy Crawlers and
they want to help out. They obviously share our passion for jeeping
as well. They are going to pass the letters around and get everyone
to send them out! I am very confident that they will follow through
and probably spread the word to other groups.

Our voice is going to be heard!

I just got off the phone with the USO in California and they told me
as of yesterday ----------NO-------- packages at all will be sent
overseas unless they have an actual address to go to a family member.
All USO efforts have been switched to help support family members.
Right now what is needed for the families are gift certificates that
have an expiration date of around a year or more, gift baskets with
non perishable food and other items, toys or games for the kids. You
can still put the donation items from earlier list in the gift
baskets and then the families can send them on. But to reiterate,-----
-NO------ items will be sent by the USO. So we need to come up with
another plan, any ideas please let me know. Jeff 480-213-1976

OK all.......... to add to the list. I just received a call from
Commissioner Winkleman's office at the State Land Dept. They are
"impressed" with Jim's letter........... but they have received only mine
and Jims...... WE NEED THOUSANDS to make our point.

I have a meeting with the commissioner and a few others on MONDAY MORNING
and it would be very nice to have Mr. Windleman walk into this meeting with
1000 emails in his hand showing support for Tammy Pike and the NEED to find
a way to fund the OHV position within the ASLD.

Make note that you all have purchased Rec Permits only through Tammy "taking
the extra step to educate about the permits" as well as "always being
available to help the OHV community." Also make note you "feel it's
absolutely necessary that the permit fees be directed back to the Land Dept.
to help fund this program, as well as the trusts, as is directed by the
State Charter regarding "State Land Dept. must make money from the lands for
education and prison systems in Arizona".

We have a few ideas regarding "innovative funding" to keep Tammy in place
but we certainly truly NEED masses of letters to Mr. Winkleman prior to
Monday morning!!!

Kat was in touch with USO the other day and they told her we could do the donations anyway. I dont know who she talked to but this was just yesterday that they stopped ALL donations. Now all donations are going to the families to either send themselves or use themselves. The lady I talked to said that most of the stuff that was given to them is being thrown away if they dont have room for it on the planes if they cant give it to the families. So, as I and everyone else appreciate all the support maybe we can come up with something to help the families. Like USO told me, the soldiers was the only source of income and when they left it left a lot of families to fend for themselves. Let me hear some ideas. Thanks Jeff

The money for 03 and 04 is gone but we need to push the legislature to KEEP
the fund as it was intended for 05 and beyond but the OHV Gas Tax Fund is
not within Commissioner Winklemans jurisdiction........... FINDING money to
keep Tammy's program within the ASLD or getting the permit monies directed
back to ASLD he can do.

I agree............. that's what I also do but it's very hard to get the
"masses" to do snail mail........ a short email asking to KEEP Tammy's
position or direct the rec permit money back to ASLD they will do via
email.......... it's better than NOTHING.

Once again a huge thanks to Rick for hooking me up with a bit of bling and some rubber for the tow rig. Saved me bunch of bucks to boot!

It seems like I ran into about five AZVJCers while I was there. His store must be the unofficial meeting place, eh?

Here is a pic! Thanks

How about a run to provide the needs of our local military families from Luke or NG armory etc.? I am sure that some of our Guys (and Gals) have left there spouse behind possibly with children. It could be similar to the Rodeo Relief run. I do not know who to contact but someone on this list does. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Jeff

Subject: Steering???

Hello Gang,
Well, I will try to explain what is happening. I noticed a couple of days ago that my steering wheel was not centered like it has always been, so my first thought was that I was out of alignment because I had done that before. But when I got home, I left the keys in the "turn off" position, and proceeded to turn the steering wheel and the tires didn't move but the steering wheel would turn. I didn't have to turn the steering wheel with much force, it turned fairly easy. I checked my steering knuckle and steering box. Everything seems OK, without anything out of the ordinary.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....................

Thanks,
Casper

KMLE County 108 has something called "KMLE SPECIAL FORCES" go to http://www.kmle108.com you can sign up to help around military families here in the valley. Last night I babysat 2 children while a mom went to a support group. Plus it gave her time to get away and "wig out" so the kids didn't see. She came back and said now all she needs is someone to change the oil in her car so my friend is doing that for her on Saturday.

Thanks Jeff

I'm not as familiar with this fund as some others, so I'm educating myself on it. Remember that the budget is a long way from being approved, there is much negotiating and compromising to be done first. I brought your comments to the attention of other members so we can begin to add it to our budget dialogue. However, there are no promises on any issues this year. Many programs are being cut or eliminated in this 7th or 8th budget cutting session. All I can do is look into it, talk to other members about it and see where we can go from there. I appreciate your bringing it to my attention. It isn't an issue that comes before any of my committees. Thanks. --Toni Hellon

Subject: OHV Fund

I am writing in reference to the raided OHV fund, I am well aware of the budget
crisis that our state is experiencing. It is my understanding that the
money in the State OHV Fund have recently been redirected to other
areas and thus leaves the entire OHV community without funding for
enforcement, education, and grant opportunities, to name just a few.

Reports from last year's National Off Highway Vehicle Conference
indicated an OHV growth rate of some 30% per year. It is, without a
doubt, one of the fast growing sports in the southwest. With the State
Trails Inventory project well underway, it is essential that the OHV
fund monies be returned so that the inventory may be completed. This is
the first step in providing the necessary base line trail information
for the new resource management plans that are being developed to manage
our lands in Arizona. We are currently operating on plans that are well
over 10 years old. The OHV growth rate has made these plans obsolete.

We in the OHV community have struggled in past years and continue
to struggle in an attempt to provide educational material to new OHV users.
An educated OHV user helps prevent the misuse of our outdoor resources.
Cutting the funding for this will set this effort back years and could result in a backslide
that may never be recovered. The money to support OHV grants for such
things as interpretive signs and OHV parks will cease to exist.

Without the OHV Fund monies, the State Land Department will lose its OHV
Director. It has taken a long time to establish the current working
relationships that exist between the State Land Department and the OHV
community. This loss of staff, like in the education area, will
effectively negate all the work that has been done with the OHV
community to date.

These funds are put into place because there is a need for them, if they
can be taken away that easily without causing consequences they would
not have been created in first place.

As a resident of this state, neither you nor I can afford to let this
happen. The OHV community will recreate on public lands and they will
have fun. Without the money from the OHV Fund, the chances of the
public doing so in a controlled and responsible manner are decreased.
None of us can afford to let this happen.

Please reconsider your actions and allow the money from the OHV Fund to
be used in the manner for which it was conceived.

If taking this money causes monetary losses down the road, then it will defeat
the purpose of taking the money in the first place. Maybe the State needs to
budget money to educate themselves on working within the budget they currently
have and not put our state in this position in the first place.

Thank You

Once again a huge thanks to Rick for hooking me up with a bit of bling and some rubber for the tow rig. Saved me bunch of bucks to boot!

It seems like I ran into about five AZVJCers while I was there. His store must be the unofficial meeting place, eh?

Here is a pic! Thanks

Craig
