Our other club meeting was last Friday, and I later spoke with our guest speaker from the Phoenix BLM, whose name escapes me, and he did confirm that Tammy's position was in jeopardy and they are scrambling to find the funds with which to pay her. He did suggest, however, that we write those letters and make sure we keep on top of the OHV funds issue for 2004, as the legislature needs to know that we don't want the fund to become a thing of the past and that we're out there and watching, so do those letters.

Subject: Wrenching Party - 1942 Willys MB - This Sat. 3/29/03
Greetings!
I am planning a wrenching party on the '42 MB this Saturday in the
morning. The engine, tranny, x/case, drive shafts are all ready to
be installed! I could use all the help I can get! The interesting
part will be setting up the clutch. If anyone has any experience in
this arena the help would be greatly appreciated. The more the
merrier. If you can only stop by to chat or check out the progress
on the restore, please do. I will have coffee, breakfast etc for all
who stop by. I will be out there around 7:00am to get
started/organized but feel free to come when ever you can.
Thanks!

Subject: Sedona trip
Hello,
The trip will go on!
It looks like Joe has setup multiple smaller groups as listed below.
Flight 1 --- Lead; Joe West, Gunner; Bob Jaques
Members; Mike Kelly, Mike Lopez, Steve Murdock, Allen Bernhardt, Chris Lindsey
Flight 2 --- Lead; Scott Kruize, Gunner; Don Whitehead
Members; Mike Fissel, Jonathan Dexter, Bill Scheller, Richard Logan, Keith Bowcut
Flight 3 --- Lead; Scott Rafferty, Gunner; Lon Robison
Members; Dan Lindblad, Troy Sylvia, Ruben Aviles, Stephen Metcalf, Eric Herring
Flight 4 --- Lead; Tom Le, Gunner; TBD
Members; Brandon Sudeith, John Whitaker, Scott Grigsby, Veronica O'Halloran,Frank Bell, Kit Carson
Flight 5 --- Lead; Dan Sexton, Gunner; Nichole Freemon
Members; Barry Cox, LC Lay, Jason La Montagne, Brandon Kowalski, John Teel
Flight 6 --- Lead; Rick Beer, Gunner; Brandon Reid
Members; Al Pioquinto, Jack Sheeler, Mike Acuna,Brad Gailey, Lance Wilson
Flight 7 --- Lead; Nasser Pirshafiey, Gunner; TBD
Members; Darrell Malin, Mia McCarty, Mike Reyes, Dennis Vega, Jeff Cox, Jason Brown,Joe Shikany
Joe has carefully grouped certain members together and rather than juggle members around we'll just have group 2 leave before group 1 so I can take over the lead position as requested by Joe. It looks like Tom Le and Nasser do not have a designated tail gunner. I trust these guys to pick a gunner of their choice either in advance or at the trailhead.
As usual we will use CB channel 4. It would be nice if the trip leaders of groups 1-7 would each have an FRS radio so we can communicate independently of the CB and keep things organized. I will have 2 extras available if any of the leaders do not have one.
The list above will be updated as necessary though none of the group assignments that are listed will change. If anyone drops out I will remove there name and if anyone new signs up they will be added to a group. So if you see your name listed in a group then count on being in that group.
Joe mentioned using colored ribbons to designate group members. This is great idea. I will need to acquire some ribbon today and will assign a color to each group later today. We will designate each trip leader as Red1, etc so as to make communication easier betweeen trip leaders.
We will need to stop and acquire our Red Rock passes. I will post more details as soon as I can.
Regards,
Scott K

I'm glad you mentioned that Janice, I remember that also. What has the AZVJC
have to do with the 101 opening or any other opening that DOT has asked us
to make a showing for? And what does making more roads do for us? Less area
to wheel in? Is it good PR for the club? Yes, and thats what was decided
when that came about. So how is a Support for Our Troops Jeep run bad PR? I
think it would have a very good impact on our club. And if someone in the
club thinks differently then so be it, they dont have to go, everyone has
their own opinions and are free to express them.

Anyone done the E350 mc upgrade one an older XJ? Just wondering if it worked any better or should I just go with the 95 XJ booster/mc. Going to be doing it this week so thought I'd check before I spent the money.

Hi Darnella,
Bronco One on 32 Street, South of Bell, talk to Alan the owner. Tell him you are in the VJC and he will give you a discount and take care of you. A couple of advantages over regular stores, they can install if you want, they know what they are talking about and they tune up the radios for max performance. I purchased my CB and GPS there and they treated me right. Bronco One is also the largest Garmin GPS dealer in the world.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

Amanda,
That so much for sharing the details of your restoration. Keep the updates coming! I love old Jeeps.
I'm partial to the tan (sorry) w/ red wheels.

Today was a great day to work on a Jeep and an even better day to start the long process of restoring a 1951 Willys CJ-3A. As some of you may know my father, John Halverson, and I, Amanda, have acquired a Willys Jeep for the sole purpose of restoring it and giving it to me when I turn 16. We have been doing little things to it like changing the oil and fixing the brakes but today we finally started in on the big tough stuff!
First we took off the hood, after carefully taking pictures and writing on index cards so as to not forget how to put it back together. We then put paint stripper on it. We got a little anxious while waiting the grueling 30 minutes for the paint remover to work so we decided to take off the left fender, more taking pictures and writing. While the LEFT fender sat with the paint stripper on it we took off the RIGHT fender.
We worked and worked with putty knives scraping and scraping, both wondering sile! ntly about the burning sensation in our hands. I could no longer stand the pain and voiced my discomfort. We both realized that it probably wasn't the best idea to let something that could virtually melt paint on our bare skin. Two pairs of gloves each and about 4 coats of paint stripper later we discovered that there had been about 5 separate coats of paint on the hood and one or two various blotches of lime green.
We have it mostly stripped down, we had to stop because a recent illness had left us (me) slightly weaker than normal. As we came down to the last coat of paint I noticed that the Willys lettering was orange and the rest of the hood tan. Is this normal to have the lettering a different color?, and if so does the color of the letters usually coordinate with the color of, say, the wheels?
By the way I am having a little trouble deciding what color I should paint my Jeep. My dad is going for Harvest tan with Luzon red wheels, while I want just the opposite. I think that it! should be red so as to draw attention to the awesomeness of my Willys. Please email me with your opinions and comments lil_willys_jpr@yahoo.com
Thanks for listening to my little story of today's events, I hope it wasn't too boring! Please respond with any information you have, it is GREATLY appreciated.

the men and women of the U.S. military services for defending our freedom.
The compiled list of names will be sent out to our soldiers at the end of

national population of over 250 million. What a shame.
The entire exercise takes 10 seconds...literally. Please pass it on to your

Please visit the Department of Defense web page below and sign in thanking
the men and women of the U.S. military services for defending our freedom.
The compiled list of names will be sent out to our soldiers at the end of
the month. So far, there are only about 6.2 million names .. from a
national population of over 250 million. What a shame.
The entire exercise takes 10 seconds...literally. Please pass it on to your
e-mail friends.

Thanks for signing America's Thank-you note!

Subject: Update-Care Packages
I have called the commandeer of the USO in San Diego CA and told him
what we wanted to do, he said that if we collect all of the stuff he
would mail it out to our troops for us.(for FREE) Now we have to:
1, collect all the items
2, send it to him OR have a "RUN" to SanDiego???
First of all if we want to do this I will have dorp off sites all
over the valley to collect the items. After we collect what we can
then I will ship it to SD if we don't do a "RUN".
I can post a list of items that are needed if you all want, its a
long list!!!
By the way I almost made the old man cry.... he could not belive
there where so meny people who wanted to help, he was so thankful
all he keep saying was "thank you".
I guess I didn't know just how much this means to our troops till I
talked to Mr.Kelly today.
Let me know if you all want to have a "RUN" to San Diego, and I can
set it all up.

Kat,
Please post the drop off sites and a list of items ASAP. We can decide later
whether some of us want to drive the stuff over or send it.
Either way lets start collecting stuff!

Subject: Re: Mud & Shine Sound bar?
I have no experience with this particular sound bar but I hear that
small speakers such as these just can't provide clear loud sound in
an open top Jeep very well. I replaced my last set of soundbar
speakers with some pretty nice expensive ones and notice very little
difference from the cheap crap I was replacing. I'm told 6x9's are
the way to go and here's one company that makes a bar that can
accomodate one for a TJ:

Try eBay also - I see them there sometimes:

had a problem. Seems to me it was a vacuum leak. That was around 4
mths ago. Still works fine now. Not much help but I didnt really find

Subject: Jeep Color
Once again I am turning to you guys for help. My dad and I have had a long-standing disagreement about what color to paint MY Willys. He is voting for what we believe is the original color, Harvest Tan with red wheels. I am going for Luzon Red with tan wheels. We finally decided that the only way we can settle this was to turn to someone else for help. Who better than the knowledge people that are just a computer away? So here it is:
I would like to take a poll to decide what color my Jeep should be. My dad and I have both agreed that whatever the outcome it is binding. I have already talked to a few members and they thought it was a good idea to have the poll. Unofficially I have had 4 votes. 2 red, 1 tan, and oddly enough 1 yellow!! If you would like to help me out I would appreciate it. So as to not flood the group you can email me directly at lil_willys_jpr@yahoo.com
Thank you VERY much and please vote for little, cute, young, innocent, knowledge-seeking, hard-working, and helping me.... I want my Jeep to be just right!

Just curious....Wasn't the "showing" the club did, and all the posts, for
the opening of the loop 101 OT? Thought so. Regardless if you feel it is
OT or not, it is still important and that is why it is being posted.

I'm truly disappointed that many people here are complaining that a run to
show support for our troops is OT and that it shouldn't be posted on the
"trips" page so that we can gather as many people as possible who want to
attend.

Try eBay also - I see them there sometimes:

sometimes, it didnt. Seems like it didnt or did work after I went

had a problem. Seems to me it was a vacuum leak. That was around 4
mths ago. Still works fine now. Not much help but I didnt really find
