Subject: Scott Kruize has now assumed leadership for the Sedona Broken Arrow Run next weekend.

Hi Gang,

I was notified by my company on Friday, that I must make an emergency trip
to Japan for three weeks starting tomorrow. I have been in contact with
Scott Kruize since Friday and Scott has graciously agreed to assume
leadership of the run. I apologize to everyone in advance for this
change... I am incredibly disappointed that I will not be here for the run.

I'd like to send a big thanks out to Scott Kruize for taking on this task...
it will be no small feat to pull this run off successfully... but I am
absolutely confident that if anyone can do it... Scott can.

Again... please accept my apologies for this last minute change.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Bonnie,
I have to admit, this list is not what it used to be. I guess that's what
happens unfortunately.
Pretty chicken *^#! in my opinion and silly to even take such positions
nowadays. Go figure .
Too many are more worried about their pay check, toys and wants, then
preserving our country and future. Jeeping will be a moot issue if we don't
stand together at times like this. Mostly a bunch of spoiled yuppies that
have never really done anything but make themselves comfortable, never had
hard times, never sacrificed for others...sorry folks but I think it is true
and describes allot of people under 40 today.
So, now that I have made this statement I will not say another word on this
list and those that know me and want to do something Jeep related or not,
just email me.

Ross

Hi Sharky,

I think the problem with the rally post is that it is not a Jeep related
issue. The bottom line (in my opinion) is that land use issues are ontopic
and troop support rallys are offtopic. Just because I don't support the
rally being a club run doesn't mean I don't support the troops or the idea
of a rally. So if you feel that the rally idea hasn't gotten deserved
attention its probably because other people come here to read Jeep stuff and
ignore the rest that isn't Jeep related.

Another problem is that somebody needs to pickup the ball and lead this
rally. Whoever takes on this responsibility will need to coordinate with law
enforcement in advance as well as put out some notices to the local media.
Maybe it won't be an AZVJC function but there needs to be a leader
nonetheless and a contact list generated of interested people. Once this
person has setup the event then by all means I hope they post an invitation
on the list so that individual AZVJC members that are interested can attend.
Those that don't like it can stay home (or organize a counter demonstration
across the street)

Why don't I support this as an AZVJC function? First of all the only
politics this group really deals with are land issues and the majority of us
feel the same about that topic. When we start talking about war and the
politics surrounding it then you start to divide the group. I know there are
liberal and conservative members here and of course there probably are
Jeepers participating in both types of rallys. Who are we to tell the rest
of the group which way to think?

That being said, I'm proudly flyin the Stars and Stripes in front of my
house in support of the troops and find myself glued to Fox News these days.
I've even got a TV tuner in my PC and I'm listening as I type this. <Grin>

That's my take on it all.

Its funny you should mention that considering the support our
troops rally got less attention from the club than the land use
issues. Somethings are just more important than others at certain
times.
To each their own but at this time my money is on a much bigger
picture.

Shaun,

I have hummer rims and avalanche steering arms on my jeep. True, hummer wheels do have 7" backspacing. I am using 2" billet wheel spacers. I have about an inch and a half between the steering arm and tire. I am running 38x12.50 swampers. The rims will not clear the stock steering rod mount (tie rod). By my figuring, I could have used 1 1/4" spacers and been ok. But with your 42's It would be a problem. I did notice however someone on Ebay had some steering arms designed for hummer wheels. The arms angled in to the center of the axle for clearance, but they also only had one mount hole for tie rod placement. I really do like the avalanche arms for their flexibility in mounting positions. For instance, I am running my arms upside down but with a spacer to lower the tie rod a little for frame clearance. I could not have done that with any other arms. I was also able to adjust the mounting of the draglink to give me full movement of the wheels with the steering wheel. I can get some pics if you would like or you can stop by sometime if you are in north Phx.

Right on! The United States of America is at WAR, for crying out loud!
All venues are fair game for showing your support to our military.
It's not enough hang back and wait until they come home to tell them
we supported them. We should be making it clear here and now to those
here and over there that we support the war.

so far, Bonnie is the only person in the group who has mentioned relatives serving overseas, other than the members who have indicated being called up....has anyone thought of showing their support my putting together care packages for the troops (especially members' family)????.....I replied to Bonnie's email wishing that she would reconsider leaving the group (you too, Ross) and that, if she was comfortable giving me the addresses of her brothers so that my family could send some care packages....I think it would be a great way to show support for the guys and gals in uniform, especially ones we have ties to (i.e., club members).....any thoughts????.... sorry for continuing a dreaded OT thread, but to me, this is no more OT than land use, fire runs, cookouts, etc.....tj gill

Bruce....I did not take your comments concerning the Jeep cam in any
kind of negative way. It is certainly possible that it might very well
happen and one will have to relive someone else's trek down the trail
via a simulator. For the parking lot cowboys, this might be the
e-ticket ride of their life! LOL

As for actually using it on the trail, you are certainly correct. What
better way to evaluate your recently completed suspension project. I
have a friend of mine on the east coast who has modified a FRS radio and
uses it to "listen" to the underside of his vehicle during "find the
clunk" troubleshooting sessions. It works amazingly well and virtually
eliminates the guessing involved when attempting to determine the source
of the sound from the driver's seat doing 20 MPH on a dirt road. Ain't
technology great!

Jim, this sounds like a reasonable, common sense use of the ACEC
designation. What I'm not convinced of, due to ignorance and
paranoia, is that common sense will always be used. I agree with
Stu, we need to thoroughly understand the definitions and then bound
the use of both ACEC and VRM.

Stu, as to wide-bandwidth video, I too think it is a viable and
useful venture not only for looking forward for the driver but also
for looking under and around. For example, consider the ability to
watch the drive shaft flex after a recently completed SOA
modification; is the new drive shaft angle actually okay like one
thought? In my summary of Saturday's breakout session I was simply
using your idea to push a point to an extreme, not to poke-fun at
the idea.

Hi Sharky,

I think the problem with the rally post is that it is not a Jeep related
issue. The bottom line (in my opinion) is that land use issues are
ontopic
and troop support rallys are offtopic. Just because I don't support the
rally being a club run doesn't mean I don't support the troops or the
idea
of a rally. So if you feel that the rally idea hasn't gotten deserved
attention its probably because other people come here to read Jeep stuff
and
ignore the rest that isn't Jeep related.

Another problem is that somebody needs to pickup the ball and lead this
rally. Whoever takes on this responsibility will need to coordinate with
law
enforcement in advance as well as put out some notices to the local
media.
Maybe it won't be an AZVJC function but there needs to be a leader
nonetheless and a contact list generated of interested people. Once this
person has setup the event then by all means I hope they post an
invitation
on the list so that individual AZVJC members that are interested can
attend.
Those that don't like it can stay home (or organize a counter
demonstration
across the street)

Why don't I support this as an AZVJC function? First of all the only
politics this group really deals with are land issues and the majority
of us
feel the same about that topic. When we start talking about war and the
politics surrounding it then you start to divide the group. I know there
are
liberal and conservative members here and of course there probably are
Jeepers participating in both types of rallys. Who are we to tell the
rest
of the group which way to think?

That being said, I'm proudly flyin the Stars and Stripes in front of my
house in support of the troops and find myself glued to Fox News these
days.
I've even got a TV tuner in my PC and I'm listening as I type this.
<Grin>

That's my take on it all.

Scott K

Its funny you should mention that considering the support our
troops rally got less attention from the club than the land use
issues. Somethings are just more important than others at certain
times.
To each their own but at this time my money is on a much bigger
picture.

Now that is an excellent idea&. few things mean more to a service man or woman than to get a care package from home. Im sure it would mean even more when it is from someone they do not know.

so far, Bonnie is the only person in the group who has mentioned relatives serving overseas, other than the members who have indicated being called up....has anyone thought of showing their support my putting together care packages for the troops (especially members' family)????.....I replied to Bonnie's email wishing that she would reconsider leaving the group (you too, Ross) and that, if she was comfortable giving me the addresses of her brothers so that my family could send some care packages....I think it would be a great way to show support for the guys and gals in uniform, especially ones we have ties to (i.e., club members).....any thoughts????.... sorry for continuing a dreaded OT thread, but to me, this is no more OT than land use, fire runs, cookouts, etc.....tj gill

I was in the AF for 8 years, and still be in if I would not have broke my hip 2 times.

I VERY much support the troops and my President. I do not think that any kind of protesting does any good. I believe that I show my support by showing the flag on my Jeep and flying my flag at my house. I write emails to the troops. But I do not stand on a corner and hold signs that no one but the anti-war protesters see, who cares about them. We have a GREAT country that allows them to do that.

Is President Bush going to stop the war because of a few protesters, NO. Are the anti-war protesters going to stop protesting because we are out there, NO.

I LOVE our country and I support ALL military personnel.

I do not care if this is on topic or off, however it does affect every one of us in one way or another.

Thanks to all.

I am now off to San Diego and I know that my country will keep me safe when I travel.

Thanks to all of you for being SO patriotic, our troops need our support, now send an email to them thanking them.

Being an active member in the NAVY Reserves, I for one would very much want to do this (as long as I am still here). For those of us who want to display our support, MORE POWER TO YOU and we should not be flamed for this!!! For those that don't, you don't need to. For instance, when the club did the display for the openeing of the 101. Did people start bashing each other since it was off topic? NO. I did not want to respond to this but could not help myself. So....if we are going to coordibate this, let's do so. I believe, or hope, wheather you participate in this or not you support our troops.

Stu, You maybe right about me not really knowing you all. Saturday was my
first run with the Club. I spoke to one of my brothers Friday before the
run on Saturday and he almost cried. One the fact that his little sister
was going on a jeep run and two the fact that a jeep club was supporting
their troops. My brothers are the biggest jeep buffs I have ever known.
They are the reason that I bought a jeep. My brothers say that it sucks to
see the protests over here that are against them. They never see the
protesters that are for them. They said if they wanted to stay home and
knit they would have never joined the military. I lost a brother in 91 and
to this day I am so proud of him for giving his life for what HE believed
in.

Just to let you know, I would go to the land use meeting or whatever it
takes to help out but it isn't that easy I work plus I have two kids. But I
still try to do my part I have sent letters that ya'll have asked. I even
had neighbors do it also (not that they care).

I joined this club because my brothers said if I am gonna own a jeep I need
to know how to drive it. What better way to do this than join a club with
guys who know what they are doing. I think the run to support our troops
regardless of our beliefs on the war were right on. So some of you may
think this is off the topic but for a girl growing up with military brothers
I can't think of anything not being related to supporting our troops.

I won' quit the group because there are too many of you who emailed me off
the group email to tell me that I should "stick around".
I am off my soap box.

Regardless if you stay or go, I pray that your brothers and their

Bonnie,

You said very well the exact point I was trying to get across:

>>They never see the protesters that are for them.

That is why I said I will show my support when our service people return
home and can see for themselves that people really do care.

My offer to make some care packages and send to your brothers still
holds. If you wish to e-mail me, off-list if you wish, an address or
two, my wife and I will be happy to send something there way.

Likewise, glad you are hanging around....I still look forward to meeting
you at the White Tanks newbie run in April. ;>)

Stu, You maybe right about me not really knowing you all. Saturday was
my
first run with the Club. I spoke to one of my brothers Friday before
the
run on Saturday and he almost cried. One the fact that his little
sister
was going on a jeep run and two the fact that a jeep club was supporting
their troops. My brothers are the biggest jeep buffs I have ever known.
They are the reason that I bought a jeep. My brothers say that it sucks
to
see the protests over here that are against them. They never see the
protesters that are for them. They said if they wanted to stay home and
knit they would have never joined the military. I lost a brother in 91
and
to this day I am so proud of him for giving his life for what HE
believed
in.

Just to let you know, I would go to the land use meeting or whatever it
takes to help out but it isn't that easy I work plus I have two kids.
But I
still try to do my part I have sent letters that ya'll have asked. I
even
had neighbors do it also (not that they care).

I joined this club because my brothers said if I am gonna own a jeep I
need
to know how to drive it. What better way to do this than join a club
with
guys who know what they are doing. I think the run to support our
troops
regardless of our beliefs on the war were right on. So some of you may
think this is off the topic but for a girl growing up with military
brothers
I can't think of anything not being related to supporting our troops.

I won' quit the group because there are too many of you who emailed me
off
the group email to tell me that I should "stick around".
I am off my soap box.

Bonnie

Bonnie....perhaps you really don't know many of us as well as you think
you do. But it is your choice.

Regardless if you stay or go, I pray that your brothers and their
comrades all return safely home.

<Grin>

That's my take on it all.

Scott K

Its funny you should mention that considering the support our
troops rally got less attention from the club than the land use
issues. Somethings are just more important than others at certain
times.
To each their own but at this time my money is on a much bigger
picture.
