Can anyone give me a ballpark of what I should expect to pay to have a local shop change out my gears? I know Yukon ring and pinion sets run about $175 each but I'm not sure about installation.
Also, I'm currently running 3.73s in my TJ with the original D44 rear and D30 front. I've heard that the carriers may also have to be changed if I want to install 4.11s. Is this correct?
D44 is 3.92+ on the carrier..
D30 is 3.73+ on the carrier..
you will need
D30 R&P
D30 Master install kit
D44 Carrier (3.92+)
D44 R&P
D44 Master install kit

Shop it around. Call Joe at Absolute Offroad (602-248-8949) or Cole at 4wheelers (get his number off the sponsers page) or Desert Fab or ORI. Personally I'd steer clear of anyone not on our forum desert Rat, etc.). I think your looking in the neighborhood of a grand or more (including the gear sets).
I'm pretty sure you don't need to change the carrier; but I was wrong twice before in my life; later it turned out I was right on one of those occasions, but it was too late, it had already been counted as a "wrong" and the appeal period had expired.:)

Really the axles make no real difference in install and parts price. From my experience $1100-@$1200 should get the job done! Try one of our sponsers though, The customer service can't be beat!!

What size tires are you planning on running? The difference between 3.73 and 4.10s is very minimal. You will hardly notice ANY difference at all. A little info on your Jeep will help with some important advice.
Tire size you are/plan on running(and if you will go bigger later)?
Auto or manual transmission?
I assume a 4.0 I-6 since you have 3.73s now and a D44 rear. Any performance mods?
DD or trail rig? % of street vs. trail? Driven or towed to trail?
Future upgrades?
My personal preferances:
For 4.0 with auto tranny:
4.56s with 33s
4.88s with 35s
For 4.0 with manual tranny:
4.88s with either 33s or 35s
If you plan on staying with 31s or 32s, I would just save the $$$ and stick with the 3.73s.

Good advice Lance.
Also for zeitlerusmc: Dump the D35. I would not waste the time to upgrade
this axle when an 8.8 or 44 can be had reasonably if you search for a deal.
