most likely a dumb question, but...if the coolant in the res. is above the "full" line is there any potential problems?

TIA

i wouldn't think so it will probably just overflow and come out that hose

also, should it cost $1400.00 to replace a leaky radiator and old hoses?

Nope, you're looking about $130 for a radiator (at least when I bought mine from radiator barn a couple of years back), $8 for a thermostat.... and what, $20 for hoses? Cooling system components are actually pretty cheap. In some cases the coolant ends up costing more than whatever you're fixing.... now if part of your repair has something to do with the heater core then the cost starts getting up there due to the labor to get it replaced.

I'd have to agree. That sounds a bit steep to me. It really isn't that much labor. Sounds like one of those shops where you better cover your ***** with your hat when you walk in the door. :aagh:

Hoses are about $20.00 a piece and a decent rated thermostat is about the same. I was going to replace mine too because I thought I overheated due too mechanical error.
But Im finding out , that it was 115 dgrees out I was Towing a full military trailer down from Crown King to Tonopah And my water wasnt checked for a while and was probably low.. We forget we need to keep on Top of checking our fluid levels out here in the DESERT...I fillled it back up and have had no problems since...

Way too expensive. Do it yourself.

I just did my 95 XJ radiator last week. $117 (i think) lifetime warranty, aluminum.

Nice people. Call to see if they have one in stock.
The radiator comes out easy. A handful of small bolts/nuts to remove radiator brace. Remove hoses and lines. Don't forget to remove the 2 rubber-surrounded isolator/stud on top of your old radiator. The new one doesn't come with one! Pm me if you have questions as you go.
