I have a whistling noise that seems to get higher with rpm increases, it sounds to me like air being sucked in but Im not positive. I cleaned out the IAC valve, so I don't think that's it. Any known causes of whistles?

Vacuum Leaks.

Ditto on the vaccume leak.

This may help you find the source, it is apt to be a vaccume hose or carb/intake or other gasket.

Start by just listening and poking around to see if you can find it.

Get a bottle of starter fluid or a propane torch.

Don't light the torch if you use one, and be very careful to use very little at a time of either.

Start engine, spray a squirt at a suspect spot, if engine RPMs go up you have found it. You many have more than one.

Get a tube like a piece of conduit and put it against your ear, pointing it around. It will help you localize the leak by cutting out the surrounding noise.

Be careful not to hit moving parts while doing this or it can get driven into your head. Yuck!

Also, if you have a large bore throttle body mod, they tend to whistle a lot...

I agree on the propane you can poke the tip all around the manifold thottle body or carb.
also try a piece of 3/4 inch heater hose and put one side against ear and poke around with the other and listen.

I just have the stock air filter

Could be dirty...I better rule that out...

Check to make sure all your connections are tight to the intake manifold.

pipeline,
Are you keeping a diary of your Jeep repairs? You could sell that thing I'm sure. You gotta be setting a world record by now! haha

What fun would it be if you couldn't tinker :) BTW, have you checked under the hood to see if you can hear where it's coming from? I'd bet a vacuum line too, but you never know.

I cant find a vacuum leak, and the rpm's and idle hold steady as I spray alcohol around.

It has sort of a distorted sound, not like the clear whistle of air as much as a whistle with a sort of ring to it.

Im starting to think this is a bearing. Is there anything I can spray in the bearings to temporarily change the noise if thats what it is?

Once I figure this and one PITA rattle around 1000 RPM Im pretty much set. And I gotta fix a power steering leak

take a piece of 3/4 heater hose and poke around the motor with it running acts kinda like a stethoscope so you can pin point where the noise is. Other option is to take off the belt and if that stops the noise then you know its one of the accesories. just dont run the motor to long as the water pump wont be pumping

oil in the bearings should help!!!! haha
