Hello everyone I guess I should be honest from the get go...I don't own a Jeep :dunce2:. I had an 85 CJ7 but I had to sell it before I moved out here for college in 2003. I loved the Jeep but my lack of $$ has forced me to pick up something a little more affordable.

I just bought a '76 Blazer with the 350 modified with a 1990 corvette tuned port fuel injection with a 2" Rancho lift and 33 x 12.5 Nitto Terra Grappler Tires. I picked it up for $1,800 so you can understand why a Jeep was not in my pricing point.

The reason for joining was that a stumbled across this forum and it is very active with what seem like a lot of great people. I am new to off roading and my experience is pretty much limited to taking my CJ through farmer's fields back in high school! I am looking to meet some people that can show me the ropes and hopefully look past the fact that I am not driving a Jeep (I promise I will buy one once these student loans are paid off!).

That being said, I am wanting to head out to Butcher Jones Rd this weekend (Saturday June 29) and am wondering if anyone else will be there and would like to show a noob a thing or two!

Here are some pics of the truck I picked up yesterday. Let me know what you think it is worthy of and what you think the first upgrades should be over the next couple months.

Thanks the PO was an engineer for General Motors back in the day so he upgraded to the corvette fuel injection and did a few other things here and there. Never had a V8 before so I am definitely enjoying the extra power.

What size tires should I pick up? These are 33's. I basically busted the bank on buying this so they may have to wait a month or two. Any tips on finding affordable tires? Also, what spare parts do you typically carry?

What is the road like getting to the first cove? Is it something that a stock truck could handle? In other words, if I wanted to shoot over there during the day with a buddy in a Tacoma would we be fine or should I wait until some of you guys head out that way?

A couple of extra 33s as spares and you will be good.

You will be fine. Have fun, and take a LOT of extra water.

just keep looking at craigslist for tires and i would suggest spare axle shafts and driveshafts no hurry because your not beating on it yet. only reason i say anything is because thats a heavy vehicle.
Oh and look on craigslist for someone to trade you a jeep:smug:

Yeah I have been on Craigslist every day for the past couple weeks just checking out what comes on for sale. I think when it comes time to buy a Jeep I am going to be looking for a CJ8. About how many members here drive a Scrambler?

8's are sweet but $$$$ pick up a 7 and stretch it. Customs always better than factory

Yeah the $$$ is what led to the Blazer. I have a lot of ¢¢¢¢ right now though!

I did however find a CJ8 within my price range today that I am thinking about picking up!!!

These parts new together would cost me about $1,000...are spares taken from junkyards just as good?

Also, can everyone help me build a list of the most important things to upgrade and help me prioritize so as I save money I know what to buy?

Here are some things that come to mind in addition to what is mentioned above but I may be completely off:

Tires
Axle Shafts
Driveshafts
Suspension Lift?
Body Lift?
Front/Rear Tow Receiver hooks?
Skid Plate?

junkyard is my favorite place to shop. the spares arnt a Must have its just nice to be prepared. all that you listed would be nice but you will see what you need most after a few runs.
