Hello everyone. I purchased my first Jeep a week ago. I'm new to Jeeps - don't know very much about them, but looking forward to ownership. I purchased a 80 CJ-5 Renegade from the original owner last week. He had the Jeep in storage for the last 15 years. When he pulled it out of storage, he needed a new engine and decided to swap in an inline 6 for the original 4 cylinder. New trans as well. I"m very pleased with the purchase and the Jeep is in in good condition with only 63000 original miles and all original interior and paint.
My family has a cabin in Strawberry. We periodically go fishing at Blue Ridge Reservoir which is about 30 mins from our cabin. We have a small boat that we would pull up the hill using my F150.
Gas being the problem for all of us that it now is, I wanted to come up with an alternative to driving my F150 to Strawberry every weekend. Hence the Jeep.
We can now use my wife's minivan to get us to the cabin and back home. It gets more than twice the mpg that my truck does.
I towed the Jeep up to Strawberry last weekend and we'll keep it at the cabin full time. I'll use it to tool around town and as a tow vehicle for the boat. I'm not planning any major off-road use. I ride a dirtbike to fulfill my off-road needs.
