Hunter is offering a 101 class at his shop June 21. Topics:
First Aid
Survival Gear
Things you need to have with you.
How Search and Rescues work from a Law Enforcement point of a view.
To walk or not walk.
Keeping your head straight when things go bad.
The Back Country Emergency Management class is tentatively set for July 12 at the Civil Air Patrol building at Falcon Field, Mesa. I'm still shoring up the details. I am hunting down people to present different parts of the class. The class outline is as follows:
Back Country Emergency Management
I. Introduction
II. Trip Planning /Equipment
II. Emergency Communications
III. Scene Size Up/Safety
IV. Scene Organization
V. Resources
VI. Helicopter
VII. Vehicle Stabilization
VIII. First Aid Pearls
IX. Fire
Red Cross Wilderness First Aid
Google Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter and look at the class listings
It is a bit spendy ($115), but it is right on the money for those who want back country first aid training without going to first responder or EMT.
Here is the site for FEMA 's Incident Command on-line courses.

The courses will help you to see how the SAR people manage a search. If you talk to a Sheriff's SAR coordinator you will understand the terms he uses. These are free on line and take less than an hour a piece.
These classes would apply to people at our level.
