I have had a Garvin rack on my Jeep for a few years; it has held up
extremely well under a great deal of abuse... I routinely carry well over
300 pounds of SCUBA gear on my rack and it has taken the ab(use) without
complaint. Garvin also stands behind their product; sending me new rack
rails when my existing ones started wearing through the powder coat.

I went with the Garvin and am very pleased with it so far.Very solid
and simple to put on. If I remember right I got it from Rustys
offroad for around $499. We packed up alot and took it up to Co. for
some wheeling,very quiet also.

I was just talking to Troy and we would like to see more people participate in the Cleanup. Troy has offered to give a certificate for an additional 10% discount on his product and services, (for a total $20%), to all people who participate in the cleanup. Just for showing up people!

In addition, if we can get a minimum of 75 people to participate, we have 46 definite right now, Toys by Troy will give a $500.00 gift certificate for the most trash collected. This is a great deal for a really good cause. We're still trying to figure out how to measure the trash, weighing it, piling it, etc.

If anyone has any other ideas on ways to motivate people to come and help, please respond with your thoughts.

Thanks to everyone.

I was thinking of starting a west side caravan up there as well. I will be
leaving my house at a little before 800am to start heading into town.
Probably could meet somewhere off the 101 on the west side around 8:15
(maybe the mobil off 67th ave and the 101?). Anyone interested in running up
there in a group, shoot me an email.

I looked underneath a Rubi today at Todd's shop... oh man, I am not
impressed at all.
On the auto I looked at the "standard" tranny skid plate, that all
TJ's have is moved back and another plate was added to the front to
protect the bell housing. There is some sort of vacuum or air device
added to the top side of this skid plate on the driver's side, this
looks like a bad spot. It just seems like there would be more mods
required to get it rock ready and protected than on older TJ's.

So I have a pretty good idea which one won, now.

The Kargo Master brand Kongo Cage w/Safari Rack works pretty well
for me - it's a little more spendy (in the high $6XX range) but fits
real well on my TJ. I can store a whole mess of stuff up there
(cooler, tent, other camping stuff), and it's very sturdy. You
don't even notice it's there when you're wheeling. I mainly use
this jeep for camping, and getting out w/the wife and dogs rather
than extreme wheeling - so I don't know how great it would work if
your jeep is really lifted, etc.

You can also get canoe mounts, bike mounts, etc and attach to the
Cage, and you can take the top off without completely removing the
rack (it tilts backward).

Let me know if you have questions.

Looking for a Cherokee to make into a family 4x4. Something I can take Grandma and the kids in to a 3.5 tops trail. Doesn't have to be modified, actually a mostly stock XJ is preferred. Send me an email if you want to get rid of your XJ.

Subject: Fwd: TJ Raffle Deadline (New Mexico)

The Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club is hosting a fund raiser to
support their legal defense fund for keeping public lands open.
Tickets are $100 each and limited to 500 tickets for a brand new Jeep
TJ.

They will not accept checks for payment of TJ Raffle tickets after
February 10th but will accept PayPal until the day of the drawing.

Sales can be described as dismal with 101 tickets sold. The Las
Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club had hoped for better sales for the Land
Action Fund (LAF). As stated in the past, if the sales are below 200
on the day of the raffle (Feb. 22nd), they will continue to sell
tickets until such time as 200 tickets are sold. At that point, the
raffle will be held.

There is still time to buy your ticket in the final days before the
scheduled raffle. The club expects the raffle to take place on the
February 22nd and hopes to more than cover their costs.

Please support the Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club and their efforts
to keep public lands open for recreation. A new TJ awaits the lucky
ticket holder and the odds of winning are better than any lotto. You
will have the added satisfaction of helping to keep our public lands
open for recreation.

For more information, contact Jerry Ward. Thanks for your help.

Lachlan,

I'm not sure if Kruize was against them... but I certainly was against the
use of wheel adaptors as a general practice just because of the difficulty
of ensuring that they stay tight (and other reasons). I still think that it
is, in general, bad practice to use wheel adaptors.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Didn't you used to say that wheel adapters were an accident
waiting to happen because instead of just five lug nuts to loosen up
on you, now there are ten per wheel? Just wondering... I thought
that you said that a while ago. :)

Well I havent seen the issue yet but I got a good look at an H-2 in TX on Saturday and with all those fancy running boards, didnt look like it was too trail ready to me........it might have nice clearance in the middle but none to speak of on the sides, hell my soon not to be stock ZJ looks like it has more clearance on the sides.........as to the Rubicon, I saw one at 4Wheelers in Phx yesterday and I wasnt that impressed with that either for the price, but I wouldnd buy one anyway I am perfectly satisfied with my YJ and CJ. :-)

Why in the heck would a bunch of 4-wheelers who don't care to be a
part of organized 4-wheeling care about when the ASA4WDC Jamboree is
being held? I doubt the more than 10% of the folks in the AZVJC are
memebers of ASA4WDC member clubs or belong as individual members to
the ASA4WDC or the UFWDA -- because it costs too much. There is no
point in posting ASA4WDC business on this forum.

I need to ream the holes in my steering knuckles to accept the new 1

Is there any specific type I need to buy?
