Well, I think you could call it that.
I want to emphasize the importance of this cleanup! Many of us use the Table Mesa trails to support our Jeep addiction. Without these trails, we would be significantly impacted as far as quality trails within a short drive time from the valley.
So please….set aside a couple of hours this coming Saturday and help out at Table Mesa. I am extending a personal invitation to the folks that ran Tin Can Alley with me just this past Saturday. So the rest of you don’t feel left out, I’ll extend the invite to anyone I’ve ever ran a trail with. And for those of you that haven’t shared a trail with me, please come out and introduce yourself so we aren’t strangers any longer, OK?
The point is, we need to make a strong showing of support and we need to help clean up the area. As they say, many hands make light work.
Let’s blow the land management folks away and overwhelm them with our help!
Thanks and see you on Saturday!

Subject: RE: super 35, gears & locker?
By the time you setup a Super 35 you could have a Ford 8.8 in there from
an Explorer.
You'll get:
Less than an inch narrower than the 35. I didn't even notice.
Same wheel bolt pattern.
bigger 31 spline shafts compared to the 30 spline Super 35
Disc brakes! (if its from a 95 or newer Explorer)
Bigger stronger axle tubes
The ring and pinion is HUGE compared to the 35.
MORE or Tera axle brackets are much stronger than those on the 35.
Put in your choice of locker and gears. (Either way it's a wash because
you need to setup the new carrier anyway.)
You can find a 8.8 from the junkyard for $100-350. Detroit is around
$500. Tera brackets for $200. Flange adapter for the driveshaft $30.
Gears and setup are a wash. You were going to do these anyway. Find a
friend to weld on the brackets (or John at Hunter Offroad) So for just
a little bit more than the cost of the Super 35 you get so much more
(and of course you just gotta love those rear disks).
No need to lengthen or shorten your driveshaft. You do need a SYE kit
and CV driveshaft if you don't already have them.
I can't think of 1 good reason to keep the 35. I built mine last August.
ARB, 4.56's, MORE axle brackets. I helped my friend Chris B build his
this past month and got to drive it on Sunday. His braking is remarkably
better with the discs compared to last time I drove it. He put in 4.88's
and a limited slip. I welded the brackets on both. Shoot me an email if
you have any questions. It's not as intimidating as it sounds.
Regards,
Scott K

Around the end of Feb. I am going to be in the market for axle
upgrade, gears & lockers. I have a 00' TJ w/ D35 rear and D30 front
cranking 35" tires on 3.73's. I am looking at the super 35 kit,
4.88's & detroit locker in the rear. I would really like to do the
work myself but have never tore into that before. I could handle the
axles but I heard the ring & pinion can be a bit tricky and being
that i have never done it before, dont know if I would be better off
having it done at a good shop here in Tucson? or someone that has
done it before to lend a helping hand? Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Won't work. This is a "pipe" bender. The kind of tubing you want to bend will just kink and fold over. I took the one I bought back the next day. I tried many different sizes of tubing too.

Ok, I have looked at Harbor Freight and it appears that they have some pretty decent prices on metal bending equipment. The question is... Is it really worth the money and time to fabricate your own equiptment? I think that it would be pretty nice to say "Hey look at what I did!!" like ole Michael did. I am sure he will get all the compliments in the world on a trail run "Hey Mike... nice rack!!!" and he will beam with pride.
So how hard was it really Mike? Was it worth it? I have already started to save the money for the bending equip. What about making bumpers and tire carriers and stuff? What about a new cage? Where the hell do ya get the metal to do this?
Thx!

Well, in part I dont know of anyone who says "Man lets go run Crown
King, I really wanna go conquer the ledge" Its just a nuisance. For
built rigs it is just another bump in the road, but stock rigs can
easily get hung up and hold up everyone behind them (which can often
be 30 or so people) until they can get off the ledge. People dont do
Crown King for the challenge, they do it for the beautiful scenery
and fun just being out. Anyway While I dont think it should have been
done, I dont really care because its not taking anything away from
the CK experience (IMHO)
Besides, the rain has already started to rebuild it.

I ran a couple of runs with one of the guys that was there when it happened. He disagreed with what the club was doing (and I think he actually started his own bronco club afterward). I dont know if they were doing it for the ARR or not...but they were approached by some other pretty angry 4 wheelers when it was going on and they told them that they had permission. I got all my info second hand so Sandee or someone else would probably know more about it, but I also was under the impression that they had permission from the forest service.
The guys are right...in this case, its not really that big a deal..But it sets a precedence for other trails and next thing you know....all the trails are easily doable in a stock liberty. :(

Where did you hear that it was done by a Bronco Club?? I was around when
this went down a while back, and I'm 99% sure it was done by the group
(Arizona Road Racers, maybe?) who put on the ultra-marathon run from
Wickenburg to CK. It seems their long wheelbase support vehicles had
problems getting over the ledge, so they got permission from the Forest
service to "lower" it.
From Sandee's earlier post, it sounds as though the DIDNT have permission to
do so.
Just curious how you heard it was a Bronco Club?

As long as you aren't doing anything structural like a cage... Purchasing pipe and making your components with these benders is just fine. They do leave some dimples in the pipe from the rollers. I bent the tubing for my front bumber with one of those.

Thx!

Thank god for the 24 hour Auto Zone. Anyway, while I was changing it in
the Auto Zone parking lot at 2:00 am, I didn't plug one of the wires in
all the way. On the trail we couldn't see it because the plastic weather
seal was plugged in , but not enough metal was touching. I can't believe

Hello All,

We ran this trail from route 77 to Maguma mine road. Had 3 TJ's, 4 XJ's and 2 Taco's. 2 of the TJs were stock and they still did outstanding. Drivers skill or brillant spoting??? Its bone dry and rocky, rocky and more rocky. It was a great day to be out wheeling. While I didn't take any pictures, the rest of the group were shooting everything. Special thanks to Burby in the Taco for getting us onto the trail.

I am going to be in the market for axle

cranking 35" tires on 3.73's. I am looking at the super 35 kit,

axles but I heard the ring & pinion can be a bit tricky and being

having it done at a good shop here in Tucson? or someone that has
done it before to lend a helping hand?

Thx!
Sean (just too damn cheap to buy the goods!)

I'm not saying I agree with the modification, but it was done through

this went down a while back, and I'm 99% sure it was done by the group
(Arizona Road Racers, maybe?) who put on the ultra-marathon run from
Wickenburg to CK. It seems their long wheelbase support vehicles had
problems getting over the ledge, so they got permission from the Forest

From Sandee's earlier post, it sounds as though the DIDNT have permission to
do so.
Just curious how you heard it was a Bronco Club?

As long as you aren't doing anything structural like a cage... Purchasing pipe and making your components with these benders is just fine. They do leave some dimples in the pipe from the rollers. I bent the tubing for my front bumber with one of those.

Won't work. This is a "pipe" bender. The kind of tubing you want to bend will just kink and fold over. I took the one I bought back the next day. I tried many different sizes of tubing too.

I went to www.harborfreight.com typed in the word 'bender' in the search box and 10 results come up. Just out of curiosity, Which of these are you looking at?

Thx!
Sean (just too damn cheap to buy the goods!)

The night before the run I discovered my alternator kicked the bucket.
I can't believe
how much effort everyone put into making sure I was okay. Thanks again,
send me your address and I send you a six pack. :)

Subject: Check out these fenders.
I cut these my self, I was so scared to try it. I suggest everyone try
it out. I love the look of the 38A1 but I ended up a 74 CJ5, solution,
sandblast the hideous baby blue paint, dechrome, cut the fenders, and
shoot it with the meanest lookin olive drab paint. Respect from the other
Jeep owners sky rocketed. On warm days, I take off the top, doors, and
windshield. I look like a villein from Road Warrior with my flack jacket
and motorcycle goggles, doing 80 on the freeway. Even hardass Harley
riders look away when I stare at them at a stop light.

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Powerline Trail - Monday, January 20, 2003
Hello All,
Martin Ward lead a trail run Monday, January 20, 2003 across Powerline Trail
We ran this trail from route 77 to Maguma mine road. Had 3 TJ's, 4 XJ's and 2 Taco's. 2 of the TJs were stock and they still did outstanding. Drivers skill or brillant spoting??? Its bone dry and rocky, rocky and more rocky. It was a great day to be out wheeling. While I didn't take any pictures, the rest of the group were shooting everything. Special thanks to Burby in the Taco for getting us onto the trail.

Subject: Battery disposal fee
I bought an Optima red top at Costco last week. Over the weekend I noticed on my receipt that they charged me $5 for a disposal fee, But I did not leave my old battery with them. Do I get this back if I take in my old battery?
