Hello All,

Chris Benner is leading an Unspecified trail run on Sunday, January 26, 2003.

When: 10am
Where: meet at carefree highway &; I-17 at 10am.
Rating: None
Length: all day
CB Channel: 4

Been looking for a new trail for the new year. this trail is rated difficult. The description in the charles wells book sounds like fun. Figured we'd take I-17 to the Bumblebee exit, drive into cleator and follow the trail towards senator highway. Then depending on time either return via prescott or Mayer. Bring a jacket, it'll be cold!! There may be ice on the trail?! Pack a lunch..

*** DEP Receiving Mail Opposing OHV Use Areas ***
With the unveiling of the New Jersey Division of Environmental

Please write a letter expressing your opinion on new OHV riding areas
in the state. It would be most helpful for you to support Xtreme
Habitat in your letter. OHV (off road motorcycles and ATVs) use is
an important component of the Xtreme Habitat proposal. Currently,
there is no facility dedicated to variety of recreation options as
proposed by Xtreme Habitat.

Hello All,

Phil Thompson is leading a Coves of Saguaro Lake trail run on Monday, January 20, 2003.

When: Meet around 10:00 am
Where: Mc Donald's on Power Road 1/4 Mile North of U.S. 60 on west side, or 10:30 at Butcher Jones Parking area.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: ?
CB Channel:

Plenty of open spaces to play in. I'd prefer someone with intimate knowledge of the area to lead but it'll be fun one way or another. Come on out and enjoy the weather.

At the Coves of Saguaro Lake, there are at least 4 coves to play in, on, and around. Many hill climbs provide a challenge to all levels of 4-Wheelers and vehicles.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Hello All,

Phil Thompson lead a trail run Monday, January 20, 2003 across Coves of Saguaro Lake

Plenty of fun had by all (hopefully). Clouds a good deal of the day, but we managed to get to at least three coves. Had 9 rigs show up: 4 TJ's, a WJ, ZJ, and 3 YJ's. Had to cut it a bit short cause Teresa was driving around topless and rain was threatening. This area is great as you can find a challenging line right near a line that stockers can take. Hope to see everyone again soon.

Well, in part I dont know of anyone who says "Man lets go run Crown
King, I really wanna go conquer the ledge" Its just a nuisance. For
built rigs it is just another bump in the road, but stock rigs can
easily get hung up and hold up everyone behind them (which can often
be 30 or so people) until they can get off the ledge. People dont do
Crown King for the challenge, they do it for the beautiful scenery
and fun just being out. Anyway While I dont think it should have been
done, I dont really care because its not taking anything away from
the CK experience (IMHO)

Besides, the rain has already started to rebuild it.

From the time I went to 35" tires and the AtlasII transfer case... I
have had difficulty keeping U-Joints intact. I've broken 3 U-joints in
the past 4 years, and every time' the broken joint has been kind enough
to take out the axle yoke <grin>. The primary reason I break u-joints
is that I get sloppy and apply torque with the front wheels turned,
which, while it may be possible to do in a stock or mostly stock rig...
the torque created by the combination of the AtlasII and the 35" tires
(now 37") is extremely unforgiving of sloppy technique.

With the new addition of an NV4500 which replaced my ailing AX-25, my
crawl ratio (and torque) just went up again... meaning that my setup is
even less forgiving of sloppy driving.

In an attempt to strengthen my u-joints, I installed CTM u-joints this
weekend. For some reason, I expected the install to be difficult, but
really, it was only very slightly more difficult than a standard 297x
u-joint. The CTM instructions SUCK and they provide no pictures
(pictures are always good for people like me who don't like to read
<grin>). One KEY point is that you need to have GOOD 90 degree snap
ring pliers; mine were absolute CRAP and what little difficulties I had
were all associated with poor quality snap ring pliers.

Because of the tight tolerance of the CTM joints... they have no
forgiveness when it comes to bent axle yoke ears... if the joint is
difficult to put in and does not operate smoothly; you have a bent ear
on the yoke... period. Measure the distance between the ears at the base
and at the tip and if you have more than a 1/32" difference; you'll find
that the joint won't operate smoothly. I ended up having to press one
of my ears back because it was bent about 1/16" out of true.

Once installed, I greased the CTM joints with synthetic grease... it was
EXTREMELY difficult to force grease into the joints with the needle
fitting... it took lots of effort, but I finally got grease to come out
at the base of every u-joint cap (the CTM joints have a grease fitting
on each cap).

About the only drawback I can see to the CTM joints is the cost; $150
each. I purchased them from 4 wheeler's and they give a good discount
but compared to a 297x u-joint; these things are gold. This being said;
a u-joint failure costs me an axle each time it happens... so if I can
prevent a failure and save an axle; I'm ahead... which makes these
joints perfect for me. Combined with a lifetime "you break it we
replace it" warranty from CTM and 4 wheeler's supply; these will be the
last u-joints I will ever buy. For those who have broken u-joints take
out expensive axles... you may want to consider the CTM u-joint.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Price: reasonable

I am looking for a Safari Bikini with header for my TJ. Black would be preferred but not mandatory. If you have one sitting around and want to convert it to cash, please let me know.

I posted some pictures of the run in my gallery at the azvjc site. This
was my first run with the Virtual Jeep Club but certainly won't be the
last. I had a great time and enjoyed meeting some of the members even
though we didn't get a chance to talk much... Thanks to all who went for
making it a fun day.

I'm going to take next Saturday off work if possible to go to the Table
Mesa Rd. cleanup run so maybe we'll meet again soon.

Have a good day
Brad
