OK, you know I am new here. I have a Liberty but I love to take it off road (waht offroading I can do that is). Anyone else have a Liberty? My dream is a Wrangler but in the mean time I will settle for getting a lift and bigger tires. I am looking at Rusty's Offroad for a lift but it says it os for up to a 2006. I have a 07, would it fit?

Welcome!

First, try the LOST forum for Liberty specific information and advice.
http://lostkjs.com

Even if you do not lift, go ahead and just plan on swapping out your factory lower ball joints for greasable Moog ball joints. They are far superior. As for spacer lifts, I ran the Daystar 2.5" lift for 5 years. I now run the Frankenlift.

The issue you will find out with any lift is the upper control arms will need to be replaced regularly given the fact that the factory upper ball joint is not serviceable, nor replaceable. You are stuck replacing the whole arm. With a lift it will contact the coil at full droop and that torque's the ball joints prematurely. 'Jeepin by Al' makes longer arms with stout replaceable ball joints to solve this problem.

My advice is to get skids first, then better tires until you have enough money for a full lift. 32's are really the largest you can squeeze under a KJ, but they will rub. 31's are generally what most people run with a 2.5" lift.

Cheers!

Todd

Not sure, I had that cheap lift on my liberty and it jacked up the ball joints. I would only use a lift that uses new springs, like the franken lift.

I had a Rusty's suspension lift on my 2002 liberty for five years with zero problems. I wheeled it hard too. Frankenlift is also very popular. Check out the LOST forum posted earlier and come play with us. PM me if you want some more information.

The UCAs that Rusty's sells are the same as the factory units, i.e. not serviceable. Jeepin' By Al's (http://www.jeepinbyal.com/) sells some arms that are made to fit lifted Libertys. And if you can save up the money, the Rusty's suspension lift that Vern runs is a good one, or there are several other good lifts out there by Daystar, All J's, etc. Please stay away from any lift that uses a top strut spacer (typically referred to as an OTT lift) as the only thing it will do is blow out your front shocks.

And as mentioned come on over the the LOST site and join our AZ group, we go out quite often and have fun:

Why stay away from strut spacers?

The strut spacer will tear up your ball joints and blow out your front shocks/struts

Looking at the pictures of your Liberty working the trails, I would say it's at least as capable as the Isuzu Trooper I once owned (many Jeepers will cringe at the mention of it), which carried us all over the AZ backcountry for a couple years. Of course, I am the type that explores remote destinations and stuff, as opposed to rockcrawling just for the sake of it. I think that most stock 4x4's, even with IFS, are quite capble when driven accordingly. Welcome!
