Sandee, it's a shame that we have to fight idiots like these. It seems
pretty cowardly to leave a message and not even give a name and phone
number. I spend time on almost every trip picking up someone else's trash or
rehabilitating the trail and it irks me when thoughtless people (yes, I am
being kind here) take it upon themselves to damage trails. They are working
against the sport and don't even seem to care.

Kyle and club,
A bout a year ago I did a small "clinic" at my shop. If there is enough intrest, I'd be up for it again. I had fun last time. Pizza and melt some some steel?

Yeah... you need to bring your own supplies... 4 batteries, 5 sets of jumper cables, and a couple coat hangers. The rest of us who don't burn holes can opt. to use the machine :)

BTW, It only takes 2 batteries to run circles around the 220V Lincoln 155 wirefeed I used to use. 24V pure DC is really the sh*t. With 36V the Ready Welder I can weld up to 1/2" thick plate. Try that with your 220V machine. I already used it to weld up my friend Chris B's Ford 8.8 brackets. I was really impressed.

Now I always take it on the trail. Most of my buddies run Optima yellowtops. Combine mine with one of theirs and I'm set.

Hello All,

steve sample lead a trail run Saturday, January 18, 2003 across Ajax (Upper)

great weather

ran both lower and upper. 5 is a nice size group for upper for sure- wouldn't want many more. mr body damage made a visit to all jeeps. some water in upper made traction in the falls a little scarce. no major breakage and used strap, highlift and winch only once each.

SAFETY TIP:

Remember, when disconnecting your batteries (so Scott can weld your rig back together), ALWAYS disconnect the negative terminal first and reconnect it last.

Felix:

If you go for the hydraulic you might want to include a few mods. Definately add a oil cooler to the power steering/winch hoses and there are mods you can do to the valve body in the power steering pump toincrease pump pressure (not too much now!) and volume at low speeds. These two items alone will increase your satisfaction with your winch.

BTW, I have the 10,500 MieMarker on the CAMO COW.

I'll be ordering a winch next week for the TJ, seems all this mud (blah) likes to suck me in. So far I'm leaning for the Milemarker 10k hydraulic winch. Most guys here run the electric (Warn/Ramsey) winches on their rigs. I just notice alot of down time during cooling cycles on long pulls. The three Jeeps that run the hydraulics just crank in the cable all day long. I know the old "if it ain't running, you ain't winching" line but..even if you are, the full pull will drain that battery out fast.
I remember few years back the winch debate on here and was asking for any input.
Right now the TJ is used on weekends on rut.occasional rock but alot of mud packed trails. Sometimes those anchor points are few and far apart.
Thanks and happy trails

We are trying to decide to go with it, or a spring over, or Procomp-coil on the YJ and the total cost either route w/a SYE will be the same. So if anyone out there has any recommendation or pros & con, we would be very appreciative. We drive 3.5+ trails and use it for long highway trips as well

Hello All,

Joe West is leading an Unspecified trail run on Saturday, April 26, 2003.

When: April 26th, 2003 at 9:00am
Where: My Home
Rating: None
Length: 6 hours
CB Channel:

I will continue to schedule kill switch technical workshops every few months until everyone who wants to have an anti-theft kill switch installed has one. I will then schedule them once a year or so. I still have people contacting me who want to install a kill switch so I have scheduled this third workshop for April 26th at 9:00am.

This is kill switch technical workshop number 3. The purpose of this workshop is threefold:

1. To keep your rig from being a theft statistic.
2. To show you how easy it is to install a kill switch.
3. To spend some fun time just hanging out with Jeepers.

I have picked a date for the third kill-switch workshop a few months out to enable people to sign up over a longer period of time. I will update the information in this run as necessary, but for the most part all of the information you will need is here. The limit for the number of rigs we can fit in my yard and cul-de-sac is 30 so this will be the maximum number of people who can sign up. Please note that YOU will be doing the work in this workshop and I will be guiding, assisting, teaching, and testing your installs (and fixing any problems which may occur).

All short wheel base Jeeps such as Wranglers and CJs, Willys, etc can choose either a kill switch OR a combination hoodlock and kill switch. Since short wheel base Jeeps do not come from the factory with a hood lock, I would recommend people install the combination hood lock kill switch.

All long wheelbase Jeeps such as Grand Cherokees, Cherokees, Wagoneers and other vehicles that already have an INSIDE hood release will only need to purchase a kill switch.

The price for the HoodLock/Kill Switch is $43 and includes everything needed to install the kit.

The price for the kill switch alone is $15, and includes everything you will need to install the switch.

Please note: I am NOT making any money on the kill switches and hood locks... the charge just covers the cost of the hardware with a couple of dollars extra thrown in to cover supplies. I do this workshop for fun and to help people out... not to make money.

Unfortunately, because of problems I had with purchasing hoodlock/killswitches for people who didn't show and didn't pay (leaving me stuck with the hardware), it will be necessary for people to pay in advance. To pay for your kill switch, sign up for this run and then send a check for the appropriate amount to my home address shown below. In the memo area on your check, please put kill switch. No matter how early you send out your payment, I will not cash the check until I actually purchase the kill switch and or hood lock.

The kill switch type will be determined by the year, make, and model of the Jeep being fitted with the switch. For those members with Wranglers/CJs and other SWB Jeeps with no hood locks, I will encourage a group buy of a hood lock kill switch combination. Once I determine how many people sign up and what kind of vehicles they have, I will put together a list of required materials and purchase them for everyone. Individual members can choose what kind of kill switch they want or I will determine it for them based on vehicle type if they have no preference. I will provide all tools and will purchase bulk materials (wires, switches, solder, connectors, electrical tape, zip ties, etc) which everyone will split the cost of. If you are interested, please sign up.

VERY IMPORTANT:
All Participants in the clinic MUST give me the following information:

1. Year and model of vehicle on which we will be installing the kill switch
2. Do you have a FACTORY service manual OR a service manual with wiring schematics for your vehicle?
3. Which of the following tools can you bring: drill, drill bits, wire cutters, metric and/or standard socket set, wire strippers, wire crimpers, nylon ties, electrical tape, soldering iron/solder, long extension cords, multi-outlet adaptors/short extension cords, volt-ohm meters or DVM, blowdryer (for heat-shrink tubing).

VERY VERY IMPORTANT:
The clinic will be held at my home in Mesa Arizona on Saturday morning, April 26th starting at (for now, this may change) 9:00AM. I believe that you can plan on spending a good 6 hours at my home, and hopefully, if everything goes well we will finish around noon on Saturday.

My home address is:

649 S. 30th Circle, Mesa, Arizona 85204.

My home phone is:
(480) 325-9419

My cell phone is:
(602) 616-0785

You can obtain very good directions from Yahoo maps... but a brief set of directions are as follows:

Take 60 headed East and get off on Gilbert Road.
Head North on Gilbert Road (Left) to Broadway Road.
Head East on Broadway (right) to 30th street (30th street is the FIRST residential street you can make a right on just past the light at Lindsay... do not turn into the small community just east of Walgreens.
Head South (right) on 30th Street.
30th Street dead ends in my Cul-De-Sac and my home is the one with all the palm trees in the yard.

PLEASE PLEASE park along 30th street and WALK to my home. The reason that I am asking this is because I want to group like vehicles together to simplify installations. After everyone parks along 30th street, I will have a short meeting on my front porch and then I will ask all YJ owners to go get their vehicles and we will place them in one location in my yard. I will then ask all TJ owners to go get their vehicles and will park them in another location... and so on until all vehicle types are grouped together in my yard or cul-de-sac.

After everyone is grouped together, I will walk everyone through the steps of installing kill switches... and we will work together as a team to get them installed. To avoid having any electrical problems, you will be required to disconnect the positive lead on your battery BEFORE we do any work on your vehicle.

Please plan on bringing a cooler with drinks, cups and/or snacks if you will need them.

I will post this entire post to the "trip" on Azvjc.org if people need to reference it at a later date.

If you have suggestions and you see something I have forgotten, please let me know.

And last but not least, if you would like to come hang out and HELP or just watch and learn... I'm sure we could use all the help we can get. Everyone interested is welcome to show up.

If you have any questions, please contact me via email at:

arizonajeep@cox.net

Kind Regards,

You guy/gals,

Far be it for me to preach but, Sandee is in need of trail start coords in
the FJ area. What the heck is going on? I know you guys have good
information on the FJ area, please share it with Sandee. I really don't want
people to post these coords to this board. Just send her the dang things,
start points would be good, treks are not needed and endpoints might help.

I meant to go out yesterday and see if the only trail I have, Upper
Woodpecker, was correct, but this motor deal came up. I only have UW because
I traced it on a topo so, I am not sure it is exact/correct. I have only had
a good GPS since Christmas.

Below is a email Sandee sent to me. It should be here job to take the land
managers to every trail head, although she is willing to do it. On top of
that she/they lost their GPS yesterday out scouting around. I almost did
this last weekend (I left it on the bumper when I was getting ready to leave
the air down spot, it happens).

Please help,

Welder. It had no problem with penetration, which with my bracket
cutting skills is probably a good thing... :)

Subject: Lake Havasu Scoping Meetings (Arizona-Southern California)

The BLM Lake Havasu Field Office is preparing a Resource Management
Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to manage public
lands in portions of Mohave, LaPaz, Yavapai, and Maricopa counties in
Arizona, and portions of San Bernardino County in California.

Due to changes of the BLM Lake Havasu Field Office boundaries,
creation of the Lake Havasu RMP became necessary as the office is
currently managing resources under four different and outdated Land
Use Plans (LUP). The new RMP will revise and update the present
plans, and combine them into one RMP.

Public outreach activities and open house meetings conducted in 2001
and 2002 provided public and governmental agency participation for
identifying issues to be addressed in the RMP. The public comments
received, along with review of current governing LUPs, yielded the
RMP Scoping Report, which was published in December 2002.

The BLM Lake Havasu Field Office anticipates completion of a Draft
Resource Management Plan/EIS in 2004. Public participation is invited
and encouraged throughout the planning process.

* Written comments are being accepted throughout the planning
process. Early participation is encouraged to ensure adequate
consideration (LINK to form?),
* Public open house meetings for February 2003.
* Questions/information, contact RMP Team Lead, Gina Trafton
(928) 505-1273, or email us.

Subject: Trail blockage, Rock stackers

Just need to add my 2 cents, I agree with Sandee 100%
Myself and some buddies went out yesterday to play and practice for the upcoming competition, and the day ended up being a work day. We started off on lower woodpecker, and found all the good spots ramped with rocks. We spent the first hour unstacking everything we could find. After that we headed over to bad medicine to check out the waterfall, we decided to do upper Ajax on the way. This ended up in a major derocking of the trail, and it could use more. We spent 2 hours just removing rocks from the few hard spots on this trail.
We did axle alley, and highway to hell a couple weeks ago and did the same thing. Heck axle alley was so paved it took us about five minutes to get to the first waterfall, when this trail was new it took a couple hours to get this far. This is an example of how the tough trails are being paved by people & rigs that did not belong there.
The last waterfall on Bad Medicine is now passable, we managed to maneuver the rocks down to the bottom of the waterfall. It is not easy, so the people that worry about breakage or damage DO NOT DO THE TRAIL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do a trail that you are capable of without ruining the trail for the ones that like the extreme challenge.
I am sick and tired of every time I go out wheeling, I spend half the day UNSTACKING ROCKS. We do put winches on our rigs for a reason. If you cant not drive the obstacle without building ramps, use your WINCH.
I could go on forever about this so I will stop now, GET THE POINT.

Todd
