Subject: [TR] Club BBQ - Sunday, February 9, 2003 - Reminder

Hello All,

John Hunter Kanicsar is leading a Club BBQ trail run on Sunday, February 9, 2003.

When: Sunday, Feb 9th, 1:00 pm
Where: Parking lot at Hunter Offroad
Rating: 2.0-
Length: 5 Hours
CB Channel: 4

Hey everyone. It is the 3rd-Semi-Sorta-Annual AZVJC BBQ! Back by popular demand....Its BBQ time!

For those of you that have been to this in the past, you know the drill. Food, family and folding chairs.
For those of you that are new, (a map can be found at www.hunteroffroad.com) or havent heard about it, here is the scoop: Bring your Jeep, or fav 4x4, family and freinds, some food or soda, and folding chairs. It is the time to catch up with freinds, have some good food, show your stuff on the RTI ramp, compare notes with others on what they did with there jeeps and, most importalty, have good time.

BBQ hints and notes...
Time: Because of the colder weather, this will start at 1:00 pm and run until 6ish I guess.. I plan on haveing a good raffel as well too.
Parking: The last BBQ I had there were over 125 Jeeps there, The BBQ started at 4 I think and the parking lot was full by 4:15 , so if you want a good spot, come a little early or on time early. Also this time, parking can be done in the street, but I would like addtional parking to be done in the area behind by shop. The doors will be open, easy acces to be had be all. I just get nervous with kids and the street.. All though, on Sunday, my buiness park should be all to ourselves.

Volunteers: Food, I am not to worries about it, both times, the club has done a great job all on its own bringing enough food and drinks, as along as everyone brings a litte, we will be fine. I will need help with Cooking, and need grills and tables (big).. "Wanna a be a BBQ hero?" bring a grill Also, need some one(s) to work the ramp.. (Hackle??) Maybe someone(s) to work the raffle tickets?? If you can think of something you would like to do, feel free to ask. I could use all the help I can get.

And Remember, PLEASE, sign up so I can keep track of how many are coming.

More updates and news to follow.. Talk to you soon.

Warmest Regards
John H Kanicsar

Subject: [Tech] 1991 Wrangler - Reverse Shackle lift

I have just picked up a 91 wrangler which I am going to lift. I am interested in a 4" to 6" suspension lift. I want to install a 4" spring lift and reverse the shackles. If I am correct in my terminology this means placing the springs on top of the axle housing as opposed to leaving them under. Can anyone tell me the advantages and or disadvantages of doing this? Are there kits available to perform the reverse shackle lift? What do you recommend?

I am looking for information on kits and feasability of changing the suspension on a 92 wrangler from the leaf spring suspension to a coil spring suspension. What all is involved? What kits are available? What is the cost? How much conversion time is required? Does this conversion require professional welding? Any information or previous experience is appreciated. I will take the leaf lift from the 92 and install it on the 91 mentioned in my previous inquiry.

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Tin Can Alley - Saturday, January 18, 2003

Hello All,

Stu Olson lead a trail run Saturday, January 18, 2003 across Tin Can Alley

Wow....what a turn out! I believe the count 16. 15 SWB and 1 LWB. I pulled off the highway onto the Haul Road and there was already 8 or 10 vehicles prepping. We aired down, had a brief driver's meeting, and then hit the trail.

What we hadn't planned on was some type of OHV event (quads and motorcycles) running the same trail we were going to be on. All in all, it went pretty well. A few of quad/bike owners need a lesson or two on trail sharing, but the rest were curteous. I am thinking that when a Jeep has pulled over to the side of the trail to allow the faster OHVs to pass, the OHV driver should not nail the throttle once they have just cleared your front bumper....what do you think? Watching the stones and rocks fly is NOT cool, in my opinion.

One of the TJs had a rear locker problem at the first obstacle. His passenger rear tire did not appear to be getting any power. Although the bypass was attempted, the TJ would push itself off the trail to the right with the slight off-camber slope and the extra drive power from the passenger side. It was decided to call it a day and not chance a worse situation further down the trail.

We stopped for lunch part way through the tail, leaving room for the OHVs to get pass us. There isn't much room on these ridge top trails, that is for sure.

After a nice lunch (beautiful weather and all), we started up and headed for the finish line. Since we made much better time than expected, it was decided to head back to the air up spot while making a detour to a small rock out cropping. Many played on the rocks, all taking turns trying different lines and techniques. I believe those with the lower gearing and/or higher clearance were the ones making less "noise". Plenty of pics were being taken so I assume some of them may find find their way to a mail link.

Upon wrapping up the side excursion to the rock pile, we headed back to the highway, aired up, and said our goodbyes. While some of the faces were familiar and others were not, I had a great time and look forward to sharing another great day with you folks again!

Till next time!
