John,

I don't have personal experience with the Dodge motor. I just towed for the first time last weekend. Had my YJ on a trailer behind my Yukon (5.3L, 285hp) and took it down to Florence and back. A total of around 5000lbs...maybe.

It easily moved the trailer around town and even accelerated fairly well, but was surprised at how much I had to be into the gas pedal to maintain 65 - 70mph on the freeway. Overdrive was almost too tall. I had kind of figured that, once up to speed, all that mass would have enough momentum to want to keep it's speed more than it did. Trailer tires were at 35psi. Must have been more wind and rolling resistance than I thought.

It was an OK tow, that I would have no trouble doing again, but I think going to Flagstaff wouldn't be that much fun.

I'm assuming the little Dodge motor, with peakier hp/torque figures also, would behave the same way. Bigger displacement V8's, or diesels, that make power at lower rpm, would be better for towing.

That said, I appreciated GM's tow/haul mode switch for the tranny and the 4-wheel disc brakes are awesome on the new GM's.

My $0.02.

I am was wondering if anyone here has any expeirence or knows of someone, towing with a newer Dodge 1500 4.7 liter motor. (Yes, I know it is a small motor, but have to work on a tight budget, looking at my options and doing homework) Im looking to tow up to 6000 lbs on occasion and was wondering how it does and looking for real world input...

Thank You Much

Take a look at these pics I took today. She's a 74 CJ5, I'm
giving her away for $3,250 because I can't take her with me. If you're
interested call me or Email me for more info. Take her for a test drive,
she's got a sweet AMC 304 V8.

Does anyone know the website that tells you what the codes stand for? Also
how do you get the code using the ignition? I tried putting the key in and
switching it to "run" three times in a row and it's not giving me a code.
It's a 2000 TJ. Any help is appreciated.

Anybody have or know of a good shop to get a radio. I'm on a pretty
limited (wife imposed) budget so some suggestions on best bang for
the buck would be appreciated. While I do need one, it's funny that
this started because my wife likes how the antanae sways back and
forth. (I'll never understand women)
Thanks
