Friend of mine was in this situation before. He didn't call 911 and went
out to his Jeep and started beating the piss of the guy trying to jack his
stereo. The guy turns on him with his screwdriver and stabs him in the gut
and (unbenost to him at the time) the pecker. Took the screwdriver away
from him and continued to beat him till he got weak in the knees and the guy
ran off. Then he called 911 for an ambulance. He said he was doing fine
until the ER doc showed him the blood vessels of his pecker falling out of
the screwdriver slice looking very much like tiny intestines. He passed out
at that point. Moral of the story, no matter how mad you are remember to go
armed. Evidence from this crime led to an arrest after the thief had
stabbed a couple of others.

Call 911 and let the police handle it. Is your life really worth

someone was jacking my truck I would assume that he found the loaded gun in

Bill,
It's not? Try reading the Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13, Chapter 4.
http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/13/title13.htm
There's some room for interpretation, but it reads fairly black and white to me. In some instances you are justified to use deadly force to prevent criminal activity, including crimes against property.
13-411. Justification; use of force in crime prevention
A. A person is justified in threatening or using both physical force and deadly physical force against another if and to the extent the person reasonably believes that physical force or deadly physical force is immediately necessary to prevent the other's commission of arson of an occupied structure under section 13-1704, burglary in the second or first degree under section 13-1507 or 13-1508, kidnapping under section 13-1304, manslaughter under section 13-1103, second or first degree murder under section 13-1104 or 13-1105, sexual conduct with a minor under section 13-1405, sexual assault under section 13-1406, child molestation under section 13-1410, armed robbery under section 13-1904, or aggravated assault under section 13-1204, subsection A, paragraphs 1 and 2.
13-1507. Burglary in the second degree; classification
A. A person commits burglary in the second degree by entering or remaining unlawfully in or on a residential structure with the intent to commit any theft or any felony therein.
B. Burglary in the second degree is a class 3 felony.
13-1508. Burglary in the first degree; classification
A. A person commits burglary in the first degree if such person or an accomplice violates the provisions of either section 13-1506 or 13-1507 and knowingly possesses explosives, a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument in the course of committing any theft or any felony.
B. Burglary in the first degree of a nonresidential structure or a fenced commercial or residential yard is a class 3 felony. It is a class 2 felony if committed in a residential structure.
It's not legal to walk out in the parking lot of the apartment complex and waste them with 17 rounds to the face, but if they are in a fenced yard, or in your garage it's a different story.

I've re-painted chrome, I buff it lightly with 000 steel wool (the kind you
use for a fine wood finish) Then put a couple of layers of good ol'
rustoleum black on it (gloss or flat, up to you) it doesn't leave any
scratch marks, but it allows the paint to stick.

The way I read it as: they have to have a weapon (see below in bold). Also,
this subject is for the AZVGC and not the AZVJC. Someone had to say it! :o)
This subject really should be answered by the gun experts. Joe West!!!!
13-1508. Burglary in the first degree; classification
A. A person commits burglary in the first degree if such person or an
accomplice violates the provisions of either section 13-1506 or 13-1507 and
knowingly possesses explosives, a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument in
the course of committing any theft or any felony.
B. Burglary in the first degree of a nonresidential structure or a fenced
commercial or residential yard is a class 3 felony. It is a class 2 felony
if committed in a residential structure.

Bill,
It's not? Try reading the Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13, Chapter 4.
<http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/13/title13.htm>
http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/13/title13.htm
There's some room for interpretation, but it reads fairly black and white to
me. In some instances you are justified to use deadly force to prevent
criminal activity, including crimes against property.
13-411. Justification; use of force in crime prevention
A. A person is justified in threatening or using both physical force and
deadly physical force against another if and to the extent the person
reasonably believes that physical force or deadly physical force is
immediately necessary to prevent the other's commission of arson of an
occupied structure under section 13-1704, burglary in the second or first
degree under section 13-1507 or 13-1508, kidnapping under section 13-1304,
manslaughter under section 13-1103, second or first degree murder under
section 13-1104 or 13-1105, sexual conduct with a minor under section
13-1405, sexual assault under section 13-1406, child molestation under
section 13-1410, armed robbery under section 13-1904, or aggravated assault
under section 13-1204, subsection A, paragraphs 1 and 2.
13-1507. Burglary in the second degree; classification
A. A person commits burglary in the second degree by entering or remaining
unlawfully in or on a residential structure with the intent to commit any
theft or any felony therein.
B. Burglary in the second degree is a class 3 felony.
13-1508. Burglary in the first degree; classification
It's not legal to walk out in the parking lot of the apartment complex and
waste them with 17 rounds to the face, but if they are in a fenced yard, or
in your garage it's a different story.

Yeah Joe, please do advise. My mistake. Perhaps I shouldn't have said
"against the law" as much as it's usually not a good idea since you then
need to convince a court of law that your use of deadly force was
justifiable. Sometimes the guilty go free and the innocent don't and despite
the letter of the law, it's up to interpretation of the law as well as what
happened at the scene. I'm just not sure shooting some kid who is stealing
your stereo would be seen as a justifiable action by a judge or jury.
I guess we are getting into AZVGC territory here but I think it's not a bad
idea for the AZVJC group to discuss whether or not you can shoot somebody
who is stealing stuff from your Jeep. Although, overall the decision anyone
reading this thread makes on this issue should be based on law and not from
our conversations on this thread.
Should we move this to AZVGC?

Subject: YJ gas tank: 15 gal to 20 gal conversion
I pulled the tube from my "15 gallon" 1994 YJ gas tank,
and there is definitely a difference because my fuel gauge
acts kind of funny now.. It stays on full most of the time
and then suddenly starts dropping down to Empty REAL fast. =P
However, I've never run the jeep to empty and tried to
fill it up to see if the tank now holds 20 gallons.
I've also heard that on some of the later YJ gas tanks
that there are hollow air filled baffles at the bottom
of the tank that have to be detached and possibly removed
in order to convert the 15 gallon tank to a 20 gallon tank.
This is just something I've heard, I haven't confirmed it
myself.
What was the result of everyone else's conversion experiences?
I think I missed them on the list.

Highs & Lows: A Practical Idea To Keeping Trails Open
In life, it's the highs and lows that most people remember and
possibly want to forget. By nature, we remember the things that bring
the most to our lives - or those that take the most from it.
Let's imagine for a moment that we are paddling down a beautiful,
serene river in a canoe or kayak. The trees are beautiful, lit up in
all of the glory of Fall - yellows, greens and oranges. The sky is
that ever-so-subtle shade of blue that no camera or paintbrush could
ever really capture . The only sound is the sound of your heart
beating as you hear the rapids approach.
Scenario 1 - you look over to the shore and see a couple of families
camping, children happily playing at the water's edge, a couple of
four wheel drives parked with the camping gear and other stuff.
Everyone waves. Everybody is outdoors enjoying nature. Your mood is
calm, relaxed and prepared for what's ahead.
Scenario 2 - in the distance, you hear the muffled sound of a motor
and on the adjacent shore line you can see a string of off-highway
rigs playing on a trail.
Scenario 3 - as you round the corner of the bend a 4x4 truck comes
splashing through the water headed directly towards the entry to the
rapids you have been waiting to conquer. The water is churning, there
are two or three other trucks sitting on the bank cheering him on.
You are annoyed and irritated.
Scenario 4 - as you round the corner of the bend you head toward the
rapids, not paying any attention to anything around you but the
water, the sky and the sound of your own heart. The experience is
great and you have conquered the rapids.
Think long and hard about which of these scenarios you will remember
during your life. Like that person in the canoe is now doing, think
about which one of these scenarios would make you vote for or against
legislation to ban 4 wheel drive vehicles.
If I were to play psychiatrist, I would say that most people would
remember scenarios 3 and 4, while 2 would be forgotten when scenario
4 played out. But it would be significantly entrenched in their
memory along side of scenario 3, and they would remember that it was
all the 4x4 causing the problem.
Pretty easy decision, isn't it? Unfortunately, there are many of us
that do not think about the consequences of our actions when we are
on a trail, when we are leaving mud tracks from the trail onto the
public highway or streets, when we are sharing trails (including
waterways) with other outdoor adventurers, or when we casually talk
about or post information to the web about our adventures.
Ladies and gentleman, I am here to tell you that our sport is under
attack. It is under attack by our friends, our government and every
person that you meet on the street - whether you (or they) know it or
not.
If you love the adventure of 'wheeling and you want to continue to do
that (especially on public lands) then you need to step up to the
plate and spend a little time thinking about what you do when you
are 'wheeling. Ask yourself questions like:
"Is this something I would do in my backyard? Would I want someone
doing this on my property? How can I best explain that no damage was
done to anything but my vehicle? What's the best way for me to cross
that stream so I don't leave and damage? How far out of context can
this picture be taken?"
Our adventures are ones that make the adrenaline pump thru our veins.
This gives many of us the "highs" that we remember throughout life.
This pumping of adrenaline is also what gives many others a "low"
that they remember throughout their lives. The long and the short is,
please think about what you do and why you do it and pass that along
through your actions to those inside and outside of our sport. Lead
those inside the sport by example and teach those outside the sport
that nature, wildlife, habitat and camaraderie are more important
then the long skinny pedal on the right.

I think a better moral to this story is leave it to the professionals.
Call 911 and let the police handle it. Is your life really worth
anything in or on your Jeep. You never know what a car thief is
carrying. He could have just got a gun from the car before yours.

Bill,
