My wife and I will be looking soon to buy an XJ. Because I totaled her vehicle in November, I have to buy something that is more family friendly and more fuel efficient than what I would normally buy. Keeping in mind that we will be buying used and definitely not new, what should I look for in an XJ? I have heard that there are a few years of XJ's that I should avoid...what years? I would prefer a 4 wheel drive still, but if I have to I will go to a 2 wheel drive. I would also prefer a four door and automatic. I am a huge fan of Jeeps, but I am only familiar with the J series trucks, the CJ's and the YJ's, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Ron

Stay with the 4.0 motor, stay away from the d35 rear axle. 8.25 will be 27 spline till 97 then they are 29 spline.
