The sound from my TJ soundbar can barely be heard over the road noise when driving down the highway. Is there a way to relocate the factor soundbar in a 98 TJ so it sits over the front seats instead of behind them? Has anyone done this? It looks like this could be done with some modification to the mounting brackets but then I would need an extension for the speaker wires and dome light which I have no idea where to purchase.

Or is there an aftermarket soundbar I can puchase that is designed for this purpose?

Last week I installed a new front bumper on my '98 XJ. In doing so, I had
to remove the vacuum reservoir (?) from inside the front right side of the
old bumper. Is it a big deal if I just leave it off and cap the vacuum
line, or is there something that won't work properly now?

Thanks for the help.

I ended up changing my shocks after going from the RE 4.5" short arm to
the RE 5.5" LA. Since your coils are already broken in I'd recommend
finding a ramp or some flexy place out in the desert and unbolting your
shocks and flex it out. Get your tape measure out and find out your
compressed and extended lengths. Then extend and compress your shocks
and measure them. If they won't work with your setup then go talk to
Barry at 4 Wheelers Supply and he'll hook you up with a nice set of
RS9000's that meet your requirements. I wouldn't recommend anything less
than the adjustable shocks for the LA kit.

I'd be happy to help you with this if you like.

Hey Jeff,
I'm thinking that your current shocks, assuming that they were
basically sized correctly for the 4.5" lift, should work "ok" for the LA
kit. Next time you get down here to do a run with us "down south", we
can ramp your Jeep. I've never used a "ramp" that someone's made. We
have several areas, on several of the runs, that have natural "ramps"..
They work great for flexing all four corners at the same time. You can
get out of the Jeep and crawl all around it, measuring whatever you wish
!! Much more "interesting" than driving up a metal mesh ramp ;)

Ben,

It won't properly pass emissions when you start going there next year.
They will physically check for it under the hood. Do yourself (and our
environment) a favor and put it back on now so you don't have to worry
about it at emissions.

I've no idea what effect it has on your daily driving.

Yep that is true. I'm going to have to redo my sound if I add some spreaders. For the time being the convenience of the soundbar outweighs my worries about having spreaders.

As for the original poster he never mentioned any spreader bars. :D

Using these plates and the info from Stu's website you should have everything you need to do this.

http://www.stu-offroad.com/brakeconv/bc-1.htm

(Cut and pasted from another Jeep board:)

Jeep finally makes the part you need for your rear disc coversion.

Part number is 1-05083678AA and it costs around 3.50 each, two required.

Subject: Re: Re: Preventive maintenence suggestions....

The people making those suggestions have all experienced some
problem and had to resolve it. I think their suggestions really
represent solutions to problems - not preventive maintenance.
In my opinion, the real solution would be to replace the axle
shafts.

Note that I have never had an issue with u-joint caps rotating
or working themselves out so I find it strange that some are
reporting that they have this problem constantly. Maybe I drive
with a lighter foot - I don't know. But I do know the people
making those other suggestions well enough to know that I run
trails just as difficult as them.

If you are still concerned about your u-joints, then go ahead
and replace them. If you are also worried about the caps working
themselves loose, do the paint trick to monitor it. Then, if
you determine you really do have a problem, go ahead and do the
welding trick. However, if you are worried enough about your
u-joints that you think you should change them routinely, then
I would think you'd want to replace your shafts should you
determine the caps are not staying in place.

Also, remember that if you do the welding, then you will have to
do some grinding and re-welding the next time you want to change
the joints. I suspect repeated welding may weaken the axle shafts
over time (I think - I'm not an expert on that).

This is all just my opinion.

I notice a difference between being connected vs disconnected when
driving on the road. I get more lean when cornering disconnected
then I get connected. I do drive sometimes disconnected, have
driven like that for months, did not roll, and you learn to
compensate for it, then I connect and remind myself what was I
thinking not doing it sooner. Handles much better connected.

I have a pair of Baja SS buckets from Corbeau that were going in a project that got nipped in the butt. They are grey tweed in the centers with grey vinyl outers. DIRECTLY FROM THE WEBSITE "The heavily padded Baja SS suspension seat provides off-road drivers with the ultimate in comfort and support. The revolutionary design helps make the Baja SS the perfect off-road seat. Standard features include: powder-coated steel frame, reinforced nylon inner liner laced with military-grade suspension cords, integrated full body support and 5-point harness capability." that was easier than me typing it. the seats have full brackets and sliders. I paid 450 for the whole package. My loss your gain. They look just like the ones here--- http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/baja-ss.shtml

Well, I didn't have time to read all the *****ing on it, and well,
really just don't care too......

This was my event, and if life goes according to plans, everything
would be peachy....well, life never does, so you live with what it
gives you..

Excuse, reason, no excuse WHATEVER you think of why I wasn't there...
My company planned to move office building on the 3rd of Jan.
Certificate of Occupancy did not come through till last week, so it
was done on Saturday the 11th.

I want to GREATLY thank Kat and Bill for showing up. I did show up
at 7:00 am to drop all the stuff off I picked up from State Parks,
and talked with Kat for a while. I had to be to work at 8:00, or no
jobbie for me today!

Also thanks to Sandee for gathering all of the information and maps
for me, and sorry it was not that great of a showing.

I e-mailed everyone on the list that were "tentitive", and only heard
back from 2....Oh well.....

Yes, I did post about the opening several times, do a search for it,
cause frankly, I don't care anymore or have time to.

Don't look for a future Freeway Opening, it won't be posted!!!

Have a good day!!!

Country music forced into your ears like that is just as bad for
you as staring into the sun with binocculars! Just put your soundbar
over the front seats- you'll have to drill a few new holes and change
the wiring so that left is right, and right is left (if that matters
to you.)

Yes, unfortunately, those mags were serious. The definition of a real 4
wheelers has gone way out the window. all they care about is a
luxurious ride, cupholders, and who can pay the most in advertising.

Mike,

Thank you for taking all the time you did to organize this. As far as I'm
concerned, you did participate (though I failed to mention it). Mike, as far
as future freeway openings go, I'll take a crack at it if you don't want to
do them. I think it's important we attend and would hate for us to miss the
opportunity to make a good impression. Who on the group did ADOT contact to
see if we were going to participate? If whoever that is will let me know
when the time comes (later this year?) I'll post a run and we'll try again.

Thanks,
Bill

Subject: [TR] Tin Can Alley - Saturday, January 18, 2003

Hello All,

Stu Olson is leading a Tin Can Alley trail run on Saturday, January 18, 2003.

When: 9:30 AM - aired down and ready to hit the trail.
Where: State Route 74, Mile Marker 11, (commonly called the Haul Road, about 9ish some miles west of the turn off to the Lake Pleasent Marina)
Rating: 3.0+
Length: day trip
CB Channel: 4

This is a fun trail for drivers and vehicles of all levels, IMO. We've had stock 4x4 vehicles make the run with only an occasional strap needed (depends largely on your tires and swaybar discos, etc.) If you like roller coasters, you should enjoy the trail...plenty of ups and downs. If memory serves me correctly, Mike Chatfield once told me they did some Halloween spook runs in this area a few years back.

Pack a lunch and something to drink....I don't think Pizza Hut will deliver that far out (although it would be a cool route to have!) Plase check your ride over and ensure it is in good operating condition. We will be a ways from the nearest parts store. Depending on the number of vehicles, we will probably spend about 5 or 6 hours on the trail, but as always, be prepared for a longer day if someone has breakage or we have a larger group.

One last thing....If you don't like 6 month old pups, please don't sign up for this run. I'll have both of mine along (they are working on their Jeep dog qualifications) and I wouldn't want you to have a lousy day putting up with them. They are pretty well behaved but I have had some problems with them bringing back body parts.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Just kidding!

If you use OziExplorer mapping software and desire a track log of the trails for that area, drop me an e-mail and I shall send you that and the waypoint file as well.

Here is a write-up from a previous run of the trail.

All rock obstacles have easy bypasses for them.

Hello All,

steve sample is leading an Ajax (Upper) trail run on Saturday, January 18, 2003.

When: 9:30 am sat
Where: cottonwood cyn entrance
Rating: 4.5
Length: all day
CB Channel: 4

just checking to see if anyone wants to run ajax. it's a short but tight trail with some challenges. can be done with an open front axle. need plenty of lift and 33's minimum- prefer 35's. no winch is needed. don't see why we can't do some of lower ajax on the way.

see ya

Upper Ajax is one waterfall after another. It gets very interesting when wet but it is always a challenge for the best built vehicle. It doesn't seem to feel the negative side of "rock stacking;" ramps keep showing up but the waterfalls don't seem to change. Most often you will have a spectator gallery from the main road up above the wash.

This is a fairly short trail in length but always seems to keep you busy most of the day. Body damage is a possibility. Don't forget your lunch, water, camera and spare parts.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!
