I was talking more along the lines of the freeway opening. We cant get
upset and kick ourselfs in the *** if we let one event slip by. There are a
couple other clubs out there that work just as hard, and put just as much
heart, soul, and will-power to ensuring the longevity of our sport... but
not NEARLY enough.
When I said we cant do everything... it was directed towards our failure to
appear at the loop 202 opening.... Even VJC'ers need a break :)

Joey,
Actually that pic of my Jeep is where I am sitting on the middle body mount and mangled the hell out of it. I was sort of hung up at that point but managed to pivot out of it. It was by no means a graceful moment, LOL. Look at both drivers side tires -note that both are drooped as I hang on the body mount.

Don't drive it!
Sometimes 5th breaks and you can fix it fairly easily as long as the
chunks don't get into the other gears. This happened to Joey K. He can
probably tell you more.
Maybe Ed T will chime in. He's a tranny rebuilder.

Been there done that. Like Scott said don't drive it. Crack it open see
what is damaged and get a price for those parts. Check and like Nick
suggested AZ Trailwerkz can help you if you need anything pressed apart
or together as well as getting the parts (if Nicks does not have what
you need). Oh and a rebuild kit. Add that cost up. A rebuilt tranny from
a reputable company is probably going to cost you around 6 - 7 hundred
dollars. If your cost is close to that I suggest getting a rebuilt one
with a good warranty.
OR put an ad out to see if you can get an ax5 from a club member for a
good price.
I rebuilt mine the 5th gear, toast; 1st and reverse had damage. I
rebuilt mine for about 700 total. I had lots of fun doing it and learned
a lot. If I have to do it again I will buy a rebuilt one.

Is it the CPS truly bad. When mine acted up, I simply disconnected it and
reconnected it at the wiring harness. Worked every time. Last for variable

James,
When you say you snapped front drivelines& do you mean:
You broke the front driveshaft tube?
You broke the front driveshaft u-joints?
You broke a front axle u-joint?
You broke a front axle?
I suspect you mean that you broke a front axle u-joint& and the reason I suspect this is because you state that you are trying to get traction by turning the front end back and forth& the solution is simple:
Do NOT turn the front wheels in an attempt to get traction!
The strength of your (and anyones) front u-joints is a function of their operating angle& the more the operating angle (i.e., the more you turn the wheels from the straight ahead position) the LESS strength they have. This means that when you are putting a load on the front axle, you need to keep the front wheels as straight as possible. Sometimes it isnt possible, but you should do your best to keep the front wheels straight ahead when the front axle is under a load.
If it turns out that it is your front driveshaft u-joints which are breaking& Ive never heard of this happening with any frequency on a TJ& you may want to have your front driveshaft rebuilt, checked for straightness, and balanced.
Remember& no turning the front wheels for traction& if you need traction and youre not getting it; its time to get a locker.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

If you can't find one, you can get an aftermarket one, from say AutoZone,

USA-ALL ACTION ALERT
A Proposed Rule that would re-open Lake Powell to PWC use has stalled
in President's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The Rule
must be processed in a timely manner if PWC use will be allowed in
the 2003 season.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED
SITUATION:
Leveraging their cozy relationship with policy makers in the
Clinton/Gore administration, the radical Bluewater Network reached a
friendly, contrived settlement to a lawsuit that provided the
mechanism to end PWC use on Lake Powell.
That lawsuit was settled, quietly, with an agreement requiring the
NPS to completely ban PWC use if, for any reason, an environmental
study was not completed by a certain date. The Glen Canyon National
Recreation Area (Lake Powell) unit of the Park Service had until
September 15 to produce their EIS. The National Park Service (NPS)
managed to miss the deadline, resulting in the current ban.
Any further delay in the Rulemaking process would result in the ban
extending into the 2003 season.
The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) must review
the regulatory impact of any new NPS Rule. Any delay in issuing the
OIRA report would unfairly extend the PWC ban into the 2003 season.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Fax or send a short letter to the administrator of OIRA urging him to
make the Lake Powell rulemaking a TOP PRIORITY. A sample letter is
below. Additionally, we've activated USA-ALLâs Letter Writer feature
on our website. Click here:
<http://www.usa-all.com>http://www.usa-all.com and select ãLetter
Writerä on the left, then follow the directions. We've made it super
easy for you. Please· do it now.
If you would like to write your own letter, or if our Letter Writer
doesn't work with your browser, we encourage you to fax your letter
to the OIRA at: 202-395-3888
Thank you for your involvement.

SAMPLE LETTER:
Dr. John D. Graham
Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs
C/O The White House
725 17th Street, N.W.
Washington DC 20503
Dear Dr. Graham,
As you are aware, a mandatory ban on all Personal Watercraft (PWC)
use was imposed at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The Park
Service is seeking to adopt new rules concerning PWC management. They
have completed the required environmental study and proposed a Rule
that would allow PWC use to continue. I understand that your office
is now evaluating the impact of the Rule.
The OIRA received the draft proposed rule for Glen Canyon National
Recreation Area Personal Watercraft Use RIN: 1024-AC90 on October 16,
2002. I am extremely concerned that the OIRA has not yet completed
its report. The OIRA report is a key component of the lengthy
bureaucratic process involved prior to implementation of the Rule.
Any delay at this stage of that process would jeopardize future PWC
access to Lake Powell.
PWC recreation is a legitimate and legal family oriented activity.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (GCNRA) is eminently suited for
PWC use. PWC use does not conflict with the Park Service Organic Act
and is in perfect harmony with the GCNRAâs enabling act.
My family and I deeply regret the circumstances that led to this
arbitrary ban of PWCâs on Lake Powell. We object to ãenvironmentalä
organizations using lawsuits to force federal land managers to ignore
the concerns of the vast majority of those who visit and enjoy Lake
Powell. Additionally, we were extremely disappointed with the delay
in the National Park Services Rulemaking.
Any further delay will result immediate harm to my family and others
who enjoy this legal and legitimate activity. That is why I strongly
urge you to make the PWC Rule a TOP PRIORITY. I thank you in advance
for your prompt attention to this matter.

Your rights as a Texas citizen to access Canadian River are at risk.
Many of our State Legislators are sponsoring House Bills 206, 305,
and Senate Bill 155 that will eliminate your access to all Texas
State riverbeds, which include the Canadian River. Please contact
the Amarillo area motorcycle dealers, Amarillo Off-Road Supply, and

Our rights to use the River area We have had for over 50
Years are being SERIOUSLY threatened by some powerful Texas
politicians. This threat is VERY SERIOUS and We can easily LOSE our
rights to play in the Canadian River area very soon!! THIS is a REAL
THREAT to our rights to do as We have done for a long, long time!!
Once again, please realize that this is NO JOKE!!. The Texas
Agricultural Commissioner, SUSAN COMBS, has introduced House Bill
#206 which is a serious attempt to CLOSE ALL TEXAS RIVERS TO OFF-ROAD
USE. Please, let's ALL work together to stop this before it becomes
law!! Every person, young, old, male or female should write to the
legislators named below and tell them that WE are opposed to the
closing of ANY OFF-ROAD Areas in the state of Texas! People, there
is strength in numbers, and We have the numbers if We will organize
and let these legislators in Austin know that We are serious about
saving the land that We have enjoyed for such a long time. Don't sit

WRITE LETTERS to all of the people named below and let them know how
You feel about the closing of OUR favorite place to play!! What
these people are trying to do is steal from the people, land that
belongs to the people!! I, personally, love to ride in the Canadian
River area and I know that there are thousands of US that use the
Canadian River for recreation and it (the River) is a source of great
pleasure and fun for Us and our families!! Lets don't let ourselves
get screwed by some downstate politicians that are sucking-up to some
rich ranchers that own land next to river areas. At this point, the
Rivers of Texas STILL BELONG TO THE PEOPLE OF TEXAS!! Lets keep it
that way!! Write letters, make phone calls, and TAKE THIS MATTER

Mike,
The turn off for Table Mesa is about 5 miles before you get to Black Canyon City. Take the exit, turn left and cross over the freeway, and then take your first right onto the access road. About 200 yards after the road turns to gravel, you will see the sign in area.
Thanks for helping!

BTW, I cant get my Internet Explorer to work on this dang laptop so I cannot check or sign up for trips but I plan on being there with my significant other on the 25th, BTW, how far up I-17 from I-10 is the exit for Table Mesa ?

My MTR's measure about 36" when the weight of the Jeep is on them at 24 PSI. Off the Jeep aired up they measure 37". They squat down about 1" when I air them down to 8 PSI.

Hi all,
I am beginning to shop the 37's for my new jeep build up.
Would you guys running 37's please measure the actual height of your tires? I am trying to figure out which brands are what height and so on.
Thank you,

Sometimes 5th breaks and you can fix it fairly easily as long as the

James,
When you say you snapped front drivelines& do you mean:
Kind Regards,
Joe West

The turn off for Table Mesa is about 5 miles before you get to Black Canyon City. Take the exit, turn left and cross over the freeway, and then take your first right onto the access road. About 200 yards after the road turns to gravel, you will see the sign in area.
