Well I care and it was interesting. But as this relates to the club and to
our hobby, I think public relations is VERY important. Most people seem to
see us as a bunch of uneducated, beer guzzling, littering yahoos who always
run full throttle and blaze our own trails through pristine wilderness,
mowing down endangered species. In reality I think most of us in this club
are caring, responsible people. The only way most of these people will ever
know that is if we go out and meet them and discuss our hobby and our
committment to clean but accessible lands. In society, people (myself
included) tend to travel within their own circles of like-minded people and
perceptions like the one I mentioned above, however incorrect they may be,
are only fed. As an example, politically speaking, republicans think of
democrats as bleeding-heart liberals who just want to raise taxes and
democrats think of republicans as a bunch of rich greedy conservatives. I
found most people I spoke with at the 202 opening seemed interested in what
we do to make sure trails are kept clean and how we try and educate the
offroad public about staying on trails, etc. Some were surprised that so
many families participate, a fact I think is important to our image.

Anyway, we as a group should take advantage of opportunities like freeway
openings to let people know who we really are and even to invite new Jeep
owners to join our group. While some may not care about a freeway opening,
the fact is many do and the sheer numbers of people who go to these things
make it worthwhile for us to be there also. It was reported on 12 News last
night that around 15,000 people showed up.

No price listed, but I'm thinking it has got to be cheaper than an Atlas
as well as less problems installing. According to Alldata, Chrysler
lists a new 231 for $875 (may be rebuilt), if that is so, then they
likely list the 241 for around $1250-$1500. I work in the automotive
industry, and for my personal vehicles, get 30% off of list. I plan on
spending some time on the phone with the stealership parts dept. this
week to see if they have any info on interchangeability, and also to
verify price.

NV2410R Rock-TracNV2410R Rock-Trac Transfer Case
Advance Adapters Inc. now carries the NV241OR, or "Rock-Trac" found in
the new Jeep Rubicon. This chain-driven transfer case sports a rugged

Lon,

I was comparing some of the specs, between a 231 and a 241, on the New
Venture web site. WOW....the 241 case will handle more than twice the
torque of a 231 and holds twice the fluid.

Although it gave no external measurements, I doubt if it will simply
swap over. I believe it is the reason why the t-case on the Rubicon
hangs so much lower.

don't have to put road miles on the Jeep since it isn't my only
vehicle. Anyway, that's some low milage!

Just got back from Crown King. Great turnout, at the start, I
counted 56 vehicles and I'm sure I didn't get them all. There were
a good number of Cherokees and Grands, a lot of CJs and Wranglers,
both YJ and TJ, including at least 2 Rubicons, a couple of old
broncos, a couple Toys, couple Chevys, a SuperDuty, and others. Let
me be the first to thank Barry from 4 Wheelers for an outstanding
job organizing this large crowd and keeping it moving. We made it
in about 5 1/2 hours, not bad for such a large crowd. The damage
was minimal, one flat tire, one broken tierod, and one broken front
driveline. At least I think that was all, my POS CB was not working
well, so I may have missed hearing of other problems. It seemed
that there were very few stucks or problems and that a good time was
had by all. Not a whole lot of time to stop and take pictures with
such a large group, but we got a few and posted some of them at:

http://community.webshots.com/user/lrobinson5953

Thanks again to Barry for organinzing this.

And you need something to stop the engine from turning over when you re
torque the balancer back on. Its a pain if its an auto. Hell it can be a

Lon,

From what I have seen the new 241 Rubicon tcase is taller than the 231
due to the larger and beefier planetary gearset. I have heard the the
swap requires a body lift to fit into an older TJ.

Not sure what's up with my Cherokee. Runs great on flat land. Going up or down and major hesitation. I could see that with a carb but I have TBI!

Good to meet some new folks and see some old friends.

I'll figure it out eventually.
