For those of you heading to the Christmas tree burn I have some info for you. The Sheriffs Department has signs up stating no fires in Sycamore and further more there were around 25 Sheriffs Department vehicles at the main entrance.
Good Luck!!!!!

Ok, Here's the deal. I need to change my front main bearing seal. I understand I need to only take the harmonic balancer off to get to it. I know, also the fan and radiator etc. What tools do I need for the harmonic balancer and the actual pulling of the seal? Can I get them at Harbor Freight, and how much? I am trying to see if this will be cheaper if I do it rather than a mechanic. The part is only like 6 bucks.
Any info is appreciated, as she's starting to leak bad! (97 TJ 4.0L)

OK....sounds good. I didn't realize that you had already found the info
saying it would bolt in....hopefully it will fit in the available space.
Something is making the Rubicon hand a inch or two lower than its
cousins....logically, it would be the tranny or the t-case.

NV2410R Rock-TracNV2410R Rock-Trac Transfer Case
Advance Adapters Inc. now carries the NV241OR, or "Rock-Trac" found in
the new Jeep Rubicon. This chain-driven transfer case sports a rugged
low-range planetary design and a fixed rear yoke. It is designed as a
bolt-in replacement for 23 spline NP231J cases as well as for new
conversions!
Depending on the price of the unit, this would appear to be a great
upgrade for an earlier TJ.

Lon,
I was comparing some of the specs, between a 231 and a 241, on the New
Venture web site. WOW....the 241 case will handle more than twice the
torque of a 231 and holds twice the fluid.
Although it gave no external measurements, I doubt if it will simply
swap over. I believe it is the reason why the t-case on the Rubicon
hangs so much lower.

Hi Stu,
I got under a Rubicon yesterday (thanks to Shawn Davis who was at the
kill-switch clinic) and measured the transfer case clearance. Totally
stock, the clearance was 10.25" at the lowest point on the transfer case
skid.
I don't know what a Sahara or Sport measures at the lowest point on the
skid... but I'll bet it has at least an inch more clearance, maybe more.
Wonder how much clearance you really loose with the new transfer case... I
was thinking about taking Shawn's out while he wasn't looking just to take
it apart. <grin>
Add a lift to a Rubicon and you've got an instant kick-butt offroad machine.

We were one of the ten. To back up Todd, right around last April, Todd took out our Dana 35 from the rear end of our 2000 TJ and replaced it with a Tera 60 high pinion. We've done some runs, took our baby up to Moab, and did lower Helldorado. Our jeep is our only vehicle, and we use it day-to-day. We have over 3,000 miles on the rear and haven't had a problem with it. Runs like a dream (thanks Todd). By the way, we still have our old Dana 35, 373 gears drum-to-drum and front gears, for sale; please reply if interested directly off AVJC chat line.

Mike,
Moving the air intake above your valve cover may not protect it from sudden
surges during a water crossing gone bad. Getting your electricals wet "may"
cause you to stall, but is recoverable - even if it means winching out.
Water in your intake is far more serious.
Additionally, the snorkel provides cooler, cleaner air in any environment.
The higher the air intake from the ground the less dust, sand, etc. And, of
course, less engine compartment heat.
Overall the snorkel is a general performances enhancement - as well as a
device to protect the engine.
As to water crossing you correctly point out the exhaust as an issue.
Anyone who installs a snorkel primarily for water crossing should also
extend their exhaust to a height above the roofline. The reason to go above
the roofline is to prevent exhaust fumes from being sucked into the vehicle
through an open window.
For water crossing the breathers for the diffs, transfer case, and trans
should be extended higher. some folks run them to a separate air filter.
Hope this helps.

Despite having an ARB/Safari snorkel - and being totally satisfied with it -
I agree that they are way overpriced.
You can however build your own using 3" PVC pipe and some flexible tubing.
I've done this for a friend's CJ-5 and am now planning one for another
friend's full-size Bronco. Cost was under 30 bux and time was about three
hours.
Hope this helps.

TABLE MESA CLEAN-UP
JANUARY 25, 2003
8:00 a.m. - ???
Bring gloves, shovels, rakes.......
The Phoenix 4-Wheelers are sponsoring this cleanup in conjunction with the Phoenix BLM and ASLD.
This is an annual cleanup that the 4-wheelers have supported in the past few years. P4W will supply water and bags.... WE NEED TO FURNISH
"MANPOWER".
Hope to see you all there for a few hours............
DIRECTIONS: I-17 north to Table Mesa Rd. Cross over the interstate to the WEST ACCESS rd. Proceed north approx. 1/2 mile to the parking area on the west side of the road just past the end of the pavement.
LOWER SYCAMORE CLEAN-UP
FEBRUARY 1, 2003
8:00 a.m. - ?????
Bring gloves, shovels, rakes.....
Game & Fish and Tonto Forest Service is sponsoring this cleanup... at most cleanups we are cleaning "shooting and dumping" sites. Lower Sycamore is mostly OUR OWN. We need to support this clean up and show our support to keep this riding area OPEN TO OHV's. It is most definitely on the list for CLOSURE if we don't JOIN IN AND HELP THE CAUSE...............
Game & Fish are furnishing bags and dumpsters......
See you all there.......... let's show in force IN RED!!
DIRECTIONS: Beeline Hwy north towards Payson. Just past (1/4 mile?) the Saguaro Lake turnoff on your right, take the "turn around" road on your left across the center divider to lower Sycamore Wash.

Would it be wrong to say that "we cant do _everything_" Maybe we need to
collaborate with other clubs and tell them about big up coming events... ie
cleanups, fwy openings, BLM meetings etc. Who said that we needed to do
everything? As far as Im concerned we bust our asses (with room for
improvement) to get good publicity... and we ARE recognised. If we had 1
rep, from each decent sized 4wd club here that we contacted to let them know
the big dates for each up-coming month... I think that would make a huge
difference.
In my eyes, VJC has been givin a re-newed level of respect. We went from
"those guys who left concrete & gear oil on H2H" to "those guys who
cleaned up martinez canyon, the coves, and they're guys who SWAMPED the BLM
meetings". Even though the cement, wasnt OUR problem... WE fixed it. We're
setting a VERY good example, and more and more people and clubs are picking
up from our lead.
If we try to get other clubs involved, and explain to them how important
their attendance at cleanups and blm meetings are, we will make a huge turn
on the image we as 4-wheelers portrey ourselfs as to the blm, and the
general public.
Just thought id ramble for a bit,

I like this, a very good perspective.
It is kind of ironic how AzVJC never got any respect. Now it seems
like everything that needs to be done, with respect to off
roading/our sport/enviroment issues, needs to have AzVJC involvement
and all the rest of the groups disappear. A short example, notice how
all the land issues notices are getting posted to this board and some
of the other groups never attend these meetings or write letters.
The more you give, the more people will want.

Something is making the Rubicon hand a inch or two lower than its

Lon,
I was comparing some of the specs, between a 231 and a 241, on the New
Venture web site.

As you all know, this weekend and next is the treeburn at Sycanire Creek... I wanted to propose a clean up out there to just go over the wash and dispose of all the left over debris. There has been talk about this area being closed down, and I went down there tonight and the was a LOT of BLM.... Sure would suck to see them use the tree burn, and its reminens against us.... Would anyone be interested in bringing a couple trailors out there not this weekend but next... Saturday the 25th? let me know.. id like to organize this.

He did a great job, and we would recommend him to anyone.

We've tried to make it to the LU meetings when we could, simply because the importance was implied. We either missed the significance, or didn't see it with the posts about the opening. We didn't sign up for this 202 opening due to other obligations but would have gladly changed our plans for this. I do agree supporting positive publicity and hope we get enough notice to "shine" our rig for the "show." Just our two bits.

You know Bill, it was probably not the case here but, my wife got an
email saying she had sent a virus to someone. Now I run a virus
protector that is updated twice a week and is upgraded once a week. I
contacted some people regarding viruses and no one could figure it
out. I finally looked at the address who said they got the virus and
it was some gaming site. Neither I nor my wife has any reason to
email a gaming site. I then talked to the virus people again and they
said, this is the gaming site's way of getting to to go there. SPAM

Subject: Re: re: Snorkel
Mike,
Moving the air intake above your valve cover may not protect it from sudden
surges during a water crossing gone bad.

Sean,
Despite having an ARB/Safari snorkel - and being totally satisfied with it -
I agree that they are way overpriced.
You can however build your own using 3" PVC pipe and some flexible tubing.
I've done this for a friend's CJ-5 and am now planning one for another
friend's full-size Bronco. Cost was under 30 bux and time was about three
hours.
Hope this helps.

There has been a clean up scheduled for some time at Table Mesa on Saturday, January 25th. You can certainly book another cleanup run for the same day, but if I had to guess, I would say the turnout at either location would most likely be less than if only one were scheduled.
