Subject: Warning about Jerry gas cans
Had some fun today. Ran out of gas and used the 5 gallon Jerry can I keep in the back to get back on the road. The problem showed up when I went to fill up at the gas station. Seems the plastic tip had come off the spout for the can. Appears to be an extension for those that have vehicles for unleaded gas only. It was stuck in my fuel inlet (I have the wider pre unleaded inlet) and the pump kept cutting out after a few ounces of flow. I was able to fix after taking it apart and the use of bailing wire and a set of surgical clamps (no duct tape or BFH required). Watch out for this if you have an old Jeep or other auto like mine. I have removed the extension and will keep it in the glove box incase a friend with a newer vehicle ever needs some gas.

Sandee,
If there is going to be limited participation on the 29th, then the Land Use Committee from ASA4WDC should be there. Those people are Clay Forester, Sandee, and Bronson Murray. I think Marty Botel would be another great speaker along with Stu and Jim F.. I would be more than willing to use a sick day to participate. Please let me know Sandee if that is so.

If you are looking for offroad performance... purchase some JKS front sway
bar disconnects (hopefully used).
I'd also recommend some tire deflators and an air pressure gauge (get a nice
ACCURATE one... not one of the $1.99 specials).
And to finish up... purchase a pair of tow hooks to mount on the front of
your Jeep... and if you have the factory front tow hooks already, purchase a
pair for the back to connect to the frame.
I bet if you can find a used JKS sway bar disconnect, you can get all of
this stuff for under $100-$150 AND the best part is; all of these items are
necessary no matter how much you build up your Jeep in the future.

Hi Sandee,
I'd be happy to attend the meeting if you'd like... but I would recommend
that whatever small group you put together find some time to get together to
brainstorm prior to the meeting. I'd be happy to host such a brainstorming
session at my home in Mesa OR go to whatever meeting place is convenient for
everyone involved. If we present an organized front, I suspect we will be
much more effective. While I don't particularly feel that I am in the same
league with the other folks mentioned by Ross when it comes to land use
issues; I certainly don't roll over very easily. <grin>
Please let me know directly if you would like me to participate.

Subject: 4 Wheelers Supply; Just when you thought that service couldn't get any better...
I picked up my Jeep from 4 Wheeler's Supply yesterday after asking them to
change a few things on an NV4500 install that they did for me. I had wanted
some special modifications to the standard skid plate that they normally use
for an NV4500 install on a TJ and there were a few small bugs that needed to
be fixed (like the shifter being a bit too long for my liking).
Yesterday... when I picked up my Jeep; not only didn't they charge for the
modifications I requested, but when I went in, the owner Brian, surprised me
with a $100 store credit because I had to bring it back in for a few
modifications!
How many service and/or repair shops do you know that, when you bring
something back to have a slight modification done to it... not only don't
argue about the change... but don't charge you for it AND then give you a
credit that you didn't ask for?
And lest you think that this is something special that they do just for
me... think again; I hear about this kind of service from them ALL THE TIME.
This shop is as good as it gets. Period.

Joe West

Jay if you remove the vacuum hoses remember to cap the ends where they
connected.
What is the reason you want to go to a cable actuated one? I have heard
several people that have had bad luck with the vacuum and converted to
cable. I however have not experienced this problem. If you go to a cable
you may want to carry a spare engagement fork. This fork is what slide
the ring over the shafts. It is cast aluminum and breaks easy.

Mark,
Put a chisel between the frame and the hanger, in the back then in
the front, switching every couple of hits, they have to come off
parallel to the frame and they are tight, and use the biggest hammer
you have and then some... They will come off. Sometimes the rivets
are rusted to the inside of the hanger wholes, plus the rivets are
friction fit to the wholes.

Subject: Customized sway bars
Dear club members
TLS Steel offers a price break for auto club members when they order
multiple copies of our customized sway bars!
We custom manufacture anti-sway bars for nearly every make and model of 4
wheel drive vehicle. You decide the bar diameter you want. Here are some
links to articles on the relationship between bar diameter and performance.
http://www.angelfire.com/vi/tls/swaybarlinks.html
To assure complete accuracy we bend and forge all bars to the specifications
of sample bars which you provide.
We produce only "raw" bars (without powder coating or bushings) to allow our
customers the flexibility to individualize colors and connectors.
Our prices are based on bar type and diameter, the number and difficulty of
bends, and the number of sway bars ordered. For auto club members, making a
single order for multiples of a specific bar type can provide members with
significant savings over buying alone.
Information about our company and group discounts can be found at
http://www.tlssteel.com
For specific pricing information e-mail us at tlssteel@a... or call
Dennis at 503-289-2627
Please include the make, model, number of bars desired (front or rear or
both), name and phone number (or e-mail address) of a contact person.

Try 4 Wheelers Supply for the Kit. I have know some to make their own

too. Search the web there are a couple of write-ups on doing it

Mark, There is a great product that will resolve many issue with the steering box on a CJ -7
This steering box bracket was custom designed to replace the weak factory bracket on 1976 thru 1986 CJ5 , CJ7 ,and CJ8 jeeps equipped with factory power steering. If you are a serious offroad enthusiast or just want the best looking, strongest equipment for your rig, then this bracket is for you. It has been fabricated using laser cut 3/8 steel and precision mig-welded to be virtually indestructible. The design of the bracket improves onroad/offroad driveability by eliminating bump-steer as well as frame and factory bracket flex. No other parts or braces are needed with this bracket installed. The powder coated finish is charcoal grey and a complete grade 8 mounting hardware kit is included. This product is new in box.

I think what you mean to say is you *now* have 2 WD Low with the
Posilock and open gears. Installing the locker will give you 3 WD with
the Posilock. Because of this I really don't see much advantage of the
manual disconnect with a locker on the trail.

Rob,
Sorry but you do sound like a pr!ck!!! 8)
If it sounded like you didn't know what you were looking for, I apologize.
That was never my intention. This subject has been brought up a lot on our
email threads and it usually is a very long diatribe about the ins and outs
of compressors, so I thought I would jump the gun and throw out the
best/quickest model I could find.
These threads actually inform a lot of people not just the original poster,
I read/reread these posts all the time to pick up bits of wisdom and advice.
So if you were offended by a little "extra" info, my apologies!

Okay we are waaaaaayyyy off my subject.... I was asking if anyone
was selling a compressor before I buy one at the store this weekend.
I know what I am going to buy, I didn't need advice from everyone as
to which one to get. We all got kinda side tracked by all the posts
on the thread that weren't on topic... sorry if I sound like a prick
or something but it's a little annoying when I ask if anyone is
selling something, and I get 20 people telling me what to buy, half
of them assuming I am going to buy the "WRONG" compressor. Anyway
I'll assume nobody has one for sale and I'll just start pricing the

Subject: [az_vjc] Warning about Jerry gas cans

Period.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

You're right you are not a YJ guy just a wanna be. ;)

Thanks for your time and interest

Jay,
I have a 4X4 Posilock on my XJ. It was real easy to
install and the bonus is I now have 2WD Lo for when I
get my locker installed up front.
They run about $200 and I think I got mine from $WD
Hardware. You will probably have better luck finding
a shop that carries them in Phx than I did in Tucson
(Desert Rat doesn't carry it).
If interested I have a website book marked that goes
over the install, I can send it to you when I get
home.
Happy trails,

There is a kit and yes with some simple tools you can do it yourself.
Try 4 Wheelers Supply for the Kit. I have know some to make their own
economical cable disconnect. If you study the workings of the disconnect
and are mechanically inclined you could probably come up with something
too. Search the web there are a couple of write-ups on doing it
yourself.

I have a 5spd 92 YJ that has stock 4WD/Transmission/Transfer
Case. What is the best way to convert my 4WD from vacume to cable.
Can I get the parts I need from a hardware store or should I buy a
kit? If there is a kit, where is the best place to get one for a
good price? Last, is this something simple that I can do, or should
it be done at a shop? Thanks - Jay

Subject: Re: Steering Stabilizer for CJ-7

Tim,
I think what you mean to say is you *now* have 2 WD Low with the
Posilock and open gears. Installing the locker will give you 3 WD with
the Posilock. Because of this I really don't see much advantage of the
manual disconnect with a locker on the trail.
