I need a good engine for my 1988 wrangler. It now has a carburated 6 cylinder with a rod knock. My truck has only 75k on it but it rolled over before I bought it so it may have ran without oil pressure. Please call me at work after 10:00 am. My phone # is (490)970-8959. Thank You. Let me know what condition and what you want for it.

Sincerely,

David Lindgren.

I may show to watch if you have a few joining you. That area might be interesting with all this rain.

BTW I was out with my neighbor last Sunday exploring the west side of the White Tanks. Those wouldn't happen to be your tracks we saw in a small play area in a large wash would they? We saw some decent obstacles out there.

Subject: [TR] Technical Workshop - Saturday, January 11, 2003 - Reminder

Hello All,

Joe West is leading a Technical Workshop trail run on Saturday, January 11, 2003.

When: Saturday, January 11th, 2003
Where: My Home
Rating: 2.0-
Length: 4 hours
CB Channel:

After the success of the first kill-switch workshop, I have had numerous requests to hold a second workshop. I have picked a date for the second kill-switch workshop a few months out to enable people to sign up over a longer period of time. I will update the information in this run as necessary, but for the most part all of the information you will need is here. The limit for the number of rigs we can fit in my yard and cul-de-sac is 30 so this will be the maximum number of people who can sign up. Please note that YOU will be doing the work in this workshop and I will be guiding, assisting, teaching, and testing your installs (and fixing any problems which may occur).

All short wheel base Jeeps such as Wranglers and CJs, Willys, etc can choose either a kill switch OR a combination hoodlock and kill switch. Since short wheel base Jeeps do not come from the factory with a hood lock, I would recommend people install the combination hood lock kill switch.

All long wheelbase Jeeps such as Grand Cherokees, Cherokees, Wagoneers and other vehicles that already have an INSIDE hood release will only need to purchase a kill switch.

The price for the HoodLock/Kill Switch is $43 and includes everything needed to install the kit.

The price for the kill switch alone is $15, and includes everything you will need to install the switch.

Unfortunately, because of problems I had with purchasing hoodlock/killswitches for people who didn't show and didn't pay (leaving me stuck with the hardware), it will be necessary for people to pay in advance. I will notify people when to pay as the time for me to order the hardware grows closer.

The purpose of this "run" is for me to assist members of this group in installing kill switches in their Jeeps.

The kill switch type will be determined by the year, make, and model of the Jeep being fitted with the switch. For those members with Wranglers/CJs and other SWB Jeeps with no hood locks, I will encourage a group buy of a hood lock kill switch combination. Once I determine how many people sign up and what kind of vehicles they have, I will put together a list of required materials and purchase them for everyone. Individual members can choose what kind of kill switch they want or I will determine it for them based on vehicle type if they have no preference. I will provide all tools and will purchase bulk materials (wires, switches, solder, connectors, electrical tape, zip ties, etc) which everyone will split the cost of. If you are interested, please sign up.

VERY IMPORTANT:

All Participants in the clinic MUST give me the following information:

1. Year and model of vehicle on which we will be installing the kill switch

2. Do you have a FACTORY service manual OR a service manual with wiring schematics for your vehicle?

3. Which of the following tools can you bring: drill, drill bits, wire cutters, metric and/or standard socket set, wire strippers, wire crimpers, nylon ties, electrical tape, soldering iron/solder, long extension cords, multi-outlet adaptors/short extension cords, volt-ohm meters or DVM, blowdryer (for heat-shrink tubing).

VERY VERY IMPORTANT:

The clinic will be held at my home in Mesa Arizona on Saturday morning, January 11th starting at (for now, this may change) 7:30AM. I believe that you can plan on spending a good 4 hours at my home, and hopefully, if everything goes well we will finish around noon on Saturday.

My home address is:

649 S. 30th Circle, Mesa, Arizona 85204.

My home phone is:

(480) 325-9419

My cell phone is:

(602) 524-7632

You can obtain very good directions from Yahoo maps... but a brief set of directions are as follows:

Take 60 headed East and get off on Gilbert Road.

Head North on Gilbert Road (Left) to Broadway Road.

Head East on Broadway (right) to 30th street (30th street is the FIRST residential street you can make a right on just past the light at Lindsay... do not turn into the small community just east of Walgreens.

Head South (right) on 30th Street.

30th Street dead ends in my Cul-De-Sac and my home is the one with all the palm trees in the yard.

PLEASE PLEASE park along 30th street and WALK to my home. The reason that I am asking this is because I want to group like vehicles together to simplify installations. After everyone parks along 30th street, I will have a short meeting on my front porch and then I will ask all YJ owners to go get their vehicles and we will place them in one location in my yard. I will then ask all TJ owners to go get their vehicles and will park them in another location... and so on until all vehicle types are grouped together in my yard or cul-de-sac.

After everyone is grouped together, I will walk everyone through the steps of installing kill switches... and we will work together as a team to get them installed. To avoid having any electrical problems, you will be required to disconnect the positive lead on your battery BEFORE we do any work on your vehicle.

Please plan on bringing a cooler with drinks, cups and/or snacks if you will need them.

I will post this entire post to the "trip" on Azvjc.org if people need to reference it at a later date.

If you have suggestions and you see something I have forgotten, please let me know.

And last but not least, if you would like to come hang out and HELP or just watch and learn... I'm sure we could use all the help we can get. Everyone interested is welcome to show up.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Subject: Fwd: Action Alert - Healthy Forests Initiative - Rulemaking Comments

The below request for action has some important implications for
recreation and property rights. The Health Forests Initiative will
ensure that forests are managed and not left to be tinder boxes for
the types of devastating wildfires fires experienced the past few
years.

It will ensure we do have forests to enjoy.

Please take a couple of minutes and help support the Healthy Forest Initiative.

RE: Urgent Action Required - Comments on Bush's
Healthy Forests Initiative

Earlier this week you were sent an Action Alert regarding comments
needed on President Bush's Healthy Forests Initiative. Improving the
health of our forests to reduce the risk of insects, diseases and
catastrophic wildfires is a top priority for President Bush. His
proposals will modernize regulations clearing the way for responsible
management that focuses on protecting forests, watersheds, wildlife
and communities. Your comment letters, as well as your employees',
that express support for the changes President Bush is proposing are
critically important.

Response to date has been extremely disappointing; with just one
hundred individuals sending emails to the respective agency
officials. Noteworthy is the fact that Erickson Air Crane has had
great participation, followed by Boise and Sierra Pacific Industries.
While the latter two companies have about a dozen participants, given
the size of their operations there is still a lot more potential.

We have made it easy for you and your employees to support the
President's Healthy Forests Initiative, you can either
<http://capwiz.com/landsense/issues/alert/?alertid=1157026&type=CU>Click
Here or visit AFRC's website at <http://www.afrc.ws/>www.afrc.ws and
the 'click & send' comment emails can be found under Public
Comment.

For your employees that do not have Internet access, several other
forms of comment such as petitions and postcards are available. For
more information, contact AFRC's Portland office at 503-222-9505.

Remember, in his decision to stand with us and address the forest
health crisis, President Bush has loaned us his own good name and all
of the power that comes with his office. But he needs our strong
support to put his Healthy Forests Initiative on a firm and lasting
foundation.

There has been speculation as to the new Chairman of the House

WASHINGTON, DC - Advocates of private property rights are jubilant at
the selection of Representative Richard Pombo (R-CA) to be Chairman
of the House of Representatives Committee on Resources.

Pombo was named Chairman today by the Republican leadership, which
makes committee assignments and names chairmen. The Resources
committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues vitally
important to private property rights and use of the public lands,
including agencies within the Interior Department, the Endangered
Species Act, water, timber, mining and fisheries management.

Here is what some leaders of the property rights movement had to say:

"Richard Pombo is straight from the grassroots. He has been there
for us time and time again in Congress, from adding common sense to
the Endangered Species Act to stopping attempted land grab
legislation to promoting multiple use of federal lands. With Richard
Pombo as chairman, everyone will be heard from and the grassroots
will have a seat at the table."

"Representative Pombo has proven his awareness of issues that
property owners face across the country, East and West. He has stood
up for farmers in the mid-west, forest owners in the northeast, and
ranchers in the far west."
Carol LaGrasse, Property Rights Foundation of America

"Richard Pombo understands how far the federal government has over
reached into the lives of the average American, with no benefit for
people or the environment, just the bureaucracy. I believe he will
work toward restoring a balance. He has earned the chairmanship and
deserves the opportunity."
Henry Lamb, Eco-Logic Foundation
Hollow Rock, Tennessee

"This is the most exciting news that private land owners and resource
producers have had in ten years. We know first-hand from experiences
that range from Klamath Falls, Oregon to Dade County, Florida that
Mr. Pombo stands for the rights of small property owners."
G. B. Oliver, Paragon Foundation
Alamogordo, New Mexico

A point to ponder:

Snowmobile engines = Personal Water Craft engines = ATV engines

and are close to motorcycle engines.

Expectations are the environmental organizations will be increasing
the number of lawsuits filed. The BlueRibbon Coalition has been
deeply involved with the snowmobile issue for a number of years.

>New suit challenges air rules in parks
>
>By MIKE STARK
>Gazette Wyoming Bureau
>
>Environmental groups have filed a lawsuit charging that the federal
>government went too easy on snowmobile manufacturers in new
>pollution standards approved in November.
>
>Bluewater Network and Environmental Defense say the Environmental
>Protection Agency violated the federal Clean Air Act by not
>requiring snowmobiles to meet emission standards that are achievable
>by today's technology.
>
>"They are not following the law," said Sean Smith of Bluewater Network.
>
>For the first time ever, the EPA in early November established
>limits on how much pollution will be allowed from snowmobiles. The
>new rules say snowmobiles will have to run 30 percent cleaner within
>four years and meet tougher standards in 2010 and 2012.
>
>
>The regulations are part of a larger movement within the EPA to
>reign in pollution from off-road vehicles and large industrial
>engines.
>
>Smith said the Clean Air Act mandates that federal emission
>standards achieve the greatest degree of reduction based on
>currently available technology.
>
>Most snowmobile manufacturers are already producing four-stroke
>engines that reduce pollution by up to 95 percent. Smith said the
>EPA should have required that snowmobiles meet that standard.
>
>"The technology is already in the dealerships," he said. "We
>definitely think the time frame should be moved up."
>
>The EPA was on the brink of approving tougher standards before the
>Bush administration took office, Smith said.
>
>"I think they're under heavy political pressure to pacify the
>industry," Smith said.
>
>Hours after the environmental groups filed suit in Washington, D.C.,
>federal court, the International Snowmobile Manufacturers
>Association filed legal papers to make sure industry is involved in
>any legal action on the emissions standards.
>
>Ed Klim, president of the ISMA, said the "environmental extremists"
>are simply trying to derail EPA's "ambitious standards and
>aggressive schedule that were based on good science."
>
>He said the snowmobile industry is feeling the crunch of the new
>emission standards but believes they will be able to meet the
>schedule established by EPA.
>
>"It's really a pretty tight time frame compared to other vehicles," Klim said.
>
>The 2003 snowmobile models are finished and 2004 models are under
>way. Eliminating emissions for the 2006 models will be tough, Klim
>said. "When you build vehicles, two years is not much lead time. We
>also have to work in the marketplace to convince people to buy them."
>
>As the environmental groups' lawsuit progresses, Klim said he wants
>the snowmobile industry to be given every opportunity to respond to
>claims that might be raised in court.
>
>"We want to be at the table for every meeting, not every other
>meeting," Klim said.
>
>Cathy Milbourn, an EPA spokeswoman in Washington, D.C., said she
>couldn't respond to the environmental groups' lawsuit because the
>EPA hasn't seen it yet.
>
>But she reaffirmed the EPA's stance that the new emissions
>standards, when they are fully implemented, will remove more than 2
>million tons of pollution from the air every year - the equivalent
>of removing 32 million cars from the road.
>
>Even though some snowmobile makers are already producing cleaner
>machines, Milbourn said the EPA wanted to give the industry time to
>conform to stricter emissions limitations.
>
>"The idea is to provide a reasonable amount of time for the industry
>to comply with the rule," she said.
>
>Although the new emissions rules will apply to snowmobiles across
>the nation, the machines will have to meet tougher standards under a
>new proposal to allow machines into Yellowstone and Grand Teton
>national parks, according to park officials.

Subject: Fwd: [Faunkybroncys] FEDERAL AGENCIES FAIL IN DESERT TORTOISE RECOVERY

This legal action is in response to the recent GAO report critical of
the USFWS and BLM efforts concerning the Desert Tortoise.

These organizations need your support:

AMA D-37 - http://www.district37ama.org/home.html
California Off Road Vehicle Association (CORVA) - http://www.corva.org/
Off Road Business Association (ORBA) - http://www.orbanet.org/
San Diego Off Road Vehicle Association (SDORC) - http://www.sdorc.org/

FEDERAL AGENCIES FAIL IN DESERT TORTOISE RECOVERY

1/8/03 San Diego. Public land access advocates served a notice of
intent to sue to federal agencies on Wednesday charging that the U.S.
Department of Interior, and its two subordinate agencies, the United
Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM) have knowingly and negligently impeded the recovery of the
desert tortoise since its listing as "threatened" in 1989.
The four organizations, primarily off road groups, claim that the
DOI, USFWS and BLM have failed to take reasonable steps to arrest the
spread of Upper Respiratory Tract Disease (URTD), which is suspected
to be the primary cause of dramatic declines in desert tortoise
populations. The action also cites the agencies' failure to properly
monitor the recovery efforts, and claim the agencies have ignored the
growing body of science that indicates URTD, along with raven
predation, are driving the species rapidly toward extinction
throughout the deserts of California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
This action also follows the release of a report from the General
Accounting Office (GAO), which indicates that federal government has
spent over $100 million in the last 12 years trying to protect the
tortoise; with little or no evidence these efforts have made any
difference.
"The DOI efforts to recover the desert tortoise have been an abject
failure.," states David P. Hubbard an environmental attorney who
filed the notice. "Millions of dollars have been expended, and
millions of acres of federal land have been closed off to public use;
yet the tortoise continues to spiral towards extinction."
The filing will heat up the battle between recreationists and those
who want to close the desert to off-road vehicles and campers.
Since 1994, millions of acres of public lands have been closed off
from motorized access, making over 14% of California inaccessible to
the public.
"The federal agencies are being driven to closure decisions by
environmental lawsuits, and fail to consider the science or
economical impact of the communities that are affected.," states
Michelle Cassella of AMA D-37 Sports Committee, the lead organization
in the action. "Recent studies funded in part by off road interests
clearly indicate that in many cases the public has little or no
impact on threatened species. Ironically, it is the trails and
highways in the desert that provide barriers for disease transmission
among tortoise populations."
Other plaintiffs in the action include the California Off Road
Vehicle Association (CORVA), Off Road Business Association (ORBA),
and the San Diego Off Road Vehicle Association (SDORC).

David Hubbard is an environmental and land use attorney with the firm
of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, LLP located in San Diego,
CA. He represents public land advocates who have filed the 60 Day
Notice of Intent to Sue. (760) 496-0776

The BLM held a series of scoping meetings for the West Mojave Plan
(WMP) in early 2002. At that time it wasn't clear whether the scope of the
project would require evaluation under the provisions of the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). It has now been determined that the
development of a programmatic Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is required
for compliance with the CEQA guidelines. Because the Counties of Kern and
San Bernardino represent the largest implementation areas covered by the
WMP, they will serve as Co-Lead Agencies in the development of the EIR.
The initial step involved in developing the EIR is to determine the
scope of the potential impacts and issues that should be addressed in the
environmental document by holding public meetings to seek input from
stakeholders including responsible agencies, other key agencies,
organizations, private property owners, and interested individuals. Thus,
a series of public scoping meetings will be held by the Kern County
Planning Department and the San Bernardino County Land Use Services
Department.
The Draft EIR is scheduled for release in the spring of 2003. When
completed, the Final EIR, will assess the environmental impacts of a
proposed action and a range of reasonable alternatives (including a "no
action" alternative). Availability of the Draft EIR for public review and
comment will be announced and noticed in the local media.
The WMP involves the management of 3.6 million acres of public land
administered by the BLM and 2.8 million acres of private property. The WMP
is being prepared collaboratively with local, state, and federal agencies
with intent that the WMP serve as a habitat conservation plan (HCP) for the
area. The HCP which will facilitate the issuance of programmatic
incidental take permits by the California Department of Fish and Game and
the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to participating cities,
counties, and private property owners. Included in the HCP are
conservation strategies for the desert tortoise, Mojave ground squirrel,
and other sensitive desert plants and animals. Also included in the HCP
are motorized vehicle road use designations on public lands in the region,
as well as multiple use issues such as livestock grazing, mining, cultural
resources and recreation.
Information regarding the West Mojave Plan is available on the
Internet at http://www.ca.blrn.gov/cdd/wemo.htrnl or from Kern or San
Bernardino County planning departments.
Written comments regarding this ER can be mailed directly to the
counties at the addresses provided below. Because of time limits mandated

I'm looking for a decent air compressor for my garage to run air
tools... I finally am going to break down and buy one, wanted to see
if anyone on the list was selling one before I go out and pick on
up! -Rob

Hi,
I'm new to this group and fairly new to AZ. I have a trail
book, "Arizona Backcountry Adventures". It mentions that permits
may be required but does not say where to bet them! It's "Box
Canyon" trail is one that it says needs a permit. Where am I
suppose to get one and are the an annual permit?
Thanks,
DAD

I don't have one for sale but my old man always boasts about the prices at
harbor freight. Has anyone gotten one from there and had any luck. My old
man picked a pretty nice one up a few years back and it hasn't given him any
problems... it was about half the price as the same size at Sears and Home
Depot at the time.

I think the trail with the supposed can opener obstacle on the second
waterfall is actually called "Intimidator" although, I'm not sure
why. It's not really worth the drive out there for 2 obstacles.
What's the "Scorpion" trail like?

was my jeeps "maiden run" after i did the long arm and 38 1/2"s...

This new chairmanship selection seems to have really upset the
radical environmental community. Goodlatte is a supporter of
President Bush's "Healthy Forest Initiative".
