Just finished installing the Edelbrock performer manifold and Edelbrock 600 CFM carb on my 304. I should have done it sooner..... what a difference. :D Heck it even idles smooth now.
I know the 304 is a terd but got to blow it up first before swapping to a 401 or a Vortec.

IMHO the 401 is great, but far too much bucks for the bang
watch for a good used 360... with a nice cam and little head work can be awsome
other upgrade to look at is fuel injection... that was one of my biggest "wants" for my 304 cj7
if commando ever gets done will have FI (holly kit on shelf)

I agree about the Fuel Injection but the budget did not allow for it right now. :(

other option is propane
every 401 I have ever owned (that was not in Jeep), I sold (can buy a lot of good stuff for 304/360). 401's are also much more expensive to build
anyone know how (saw done on jeep) early chevy throttle body injection can be adapted to Jeep (computer?)
