Just finished an 8.8 swap into my 01 TJ and even after hours and several quarts of b fluid I still have mushy brakes. The pedal goes all the way down to the floor. I have bled the M cylinder, pulled the o-ring out on the proportioning valve and re-bled the system twice. The brakes worked fine until I did the swap. Any advice will greatly be appreciated.

Does the 8.8 have disk brakes? I have a fix for the mushy brakes, give me a call at the shop tomorrow.

A common problem with disc brake repairs is the caliper gets mounted upside down, placing the bleed valve at the bottom of the caliper. Check to see if this is what you did. If so, swap the calipers right to left.
It could also be the combination/proportioning valve. The one for rear drum brakes is different for rear disc.

most likely the proportioning valve.

I also have a 8.8 in my YJ sometimes I have good brakes then other times I have to pump them a few times before I have good pressure. Either way she aint going to stop on a dime for me 36” radial TSL swampers.

if the proportioning valve doesn't fix the problem do what I did. I don't know if it will work on the TJ but worked great on my YJ. The problem with the stock master cylinder is it has a small bore for the rear breaks.
This is what I did on my 8.8:
I replaced the Master Cylinder with one from a 1978 MERCURY MARQUIS Checker part number 101603 $16.99 online, more $ if you buy over the counter from checker. Order online then pick it up at the local checker store. Bolt it up and no more mushy brakes. It will be the best 16.99 you will spend.
