Just joined the forums today, so Hello everyone. :)

First off, I've never really offroaded before so if any term I use or reference I make sounds off, this is my first training exercise into off road, so I'm still trying to get down the basics.

I'm looking for information on what Jeep to get. It needs to be 4DR and be able to traverse the hilly land I have in east Arizona (St Johns). I'm looking for vehicle recommendations as well as option/upgrade recommendations as well. So far I've been looking at the JKs and the Cherokees, but I'm not sure if any of the other Jeep models would fit the bill. Most of the areas are just uneven, but the land is up on a small plateau. I haven't gotten a road put in yet, so there would be some moderate climbing to do to get to the top part.

You mention mostly hilly terrain and some moderate climbs. Are there any boulder/rock fields that you'd have to go thru? That would possibly require different options...... and Welcome to VJC! Lot's of good folks and a lot of jeep knowledge and experience on this site.

No, not really any rocks. Here are some pics of the land.

Nice property, I'm familiar with that area. Well from my limited experience, the grades that I see look like you should be able to do everything with a stock vehicle - you might not even need a 4 wheel drive - but what the heck, having the 4X4 is a lot more fun. Also, if you will be going out to other areas for hunting/fishing/exploring, you should consider those areas as well in purchase of a vehicle. See what the locals are driving and ask them. Good luck (and fun) in your new ride!

Welcome aboard! Great place, nice folks, fun runs and (by and large0 good info.:)

Can't go wrong with a 4-DR JK if it's within your budget. Looks like you could get by without a Rubicon and still have a lot of fun.

Hello, and welcome. I'm on my 4th Wrangler type Jeep. Up until September of 06, all of my Jeeps have been Sports, X's, and the like. It wasn't until I purchased my current Jeep, that I had anything special. I agree with the others, that you don't need anything fancy to have a good time driving in the out-a-doors. It all depends on what you want to do, and how much money you want to spend.

See ya on the trails.

Thanks for the welcomes and comments. Wierd thing happened today, I was coming home from getting my son at school and was driving into our sub-division and saw a white cherokee in one of the blocks before mine. Circled around to get a better look and there on the side of it was an AZVJC sticker. :)
