Well, time to get ready for night runs. I don't have any rock lights installed yet. I know several people use some small lights from WalMart and several other inexpensive, but effective, solutions.
I was wondering if anyone runs LED rock lights. I ran across these - http://www.roundeyes.com/LED_Lighting-Ultimate_Off_Road_LED_White.html - and found them interesting. I especially like the 350ma draw per light. At $30 bucks each they aren't cheap. So I'm looking for thoughts on their luminesence and if they are worth the extra $$$.
TIA for your input.

No experience with LED rock lights, and I never will. I break mine too often on the rocks, and would rather destroy a $5 light than a $30 light. I break about 3-4 per year.

Whats this wheeling stuff those are to make your rig look pretty at the malls at night. Leds are good for long lasting lights that is if you dont crush them. Not so much for rock crawling.

Go with the cheap ones from Harbor Freight/WalMart. I have noticed that the LEDs do not throw light like tungsten bulbs. You will light up much more area with the cheapies.

I have the Led interior lights which I like, seem to put out quite a bit less heat. I have been thinking of led rock lights from round eyes. I think Desertrat (Mike) has them on his rig

They do put out a lot less heat. I found the LEDs those are made of on line for about $8.00 a piece, but still have to think of a way to house them.

The white ones are sweet!!! Super bright.. The colored ones are not very bright at all.. Easy install.. If your looking to quality Roundeyes has the best lights for the money.

Have you seen these lights? They are extremely thin, and I imagine they would be much harder to snag than the ricer fog lights that most people run. However, if any one could break them, I am sure it would be you.

I have had these on my Rubicon for a couple years. They are small and easy to hide in out of the way places. I haven't broken one yet.
The light output is questionable for crawling. I prefer a brighter light that gives you a wider field of view.

Thanks everyone for your input! There are pros on both sides of the decision. I think I'll spend a little more time under the heep spotting locations and the make a decision from there.

I'm running 4 white leds from Superbrightleds.com (or something like that). They are a little cheaper than Roundeyes....about $20 per light and they put out enough light to crawl with. They are also very small and easy to mount with little heat and very little amp draw. I would recommend them but as someone mentioned they don't put out as much light as a normal rock light. The more you put in, the better you'll see though.
Everything I've heard, seen or read says the Roundeyes are worth the extra $10 as they are brighter. That's my only regret: I should've gotten the Roundeyes over the Superbrightleds.
HTH,
Sean
Oh, and I haven't broken one yet. They are extremely durable...if mounted in a good spot, I doubt I'll ever have to replace one.
