Yes, the Cabins are a great trip for the first time out there. I would be weary of suggesting the Mine Loop without some experienced people along with you though.
Make sure to take plenty of water, it's getting hot !
BTW- where in Gilbert you located ?

Like Rich said, the Martinez Cabin is indeed a great run for beginners. A couple weeks ago I led a small group of new wheelers, including an H2 out there. Starting at Price Rd, running Box Canyon, going to and from Martinez Cabins, and then completing the loop out Cottonwood Rd took most of the day, including a hike to the mine.
Like Jason said, get the Wells book. It has good descriptions of those trails to help you navigate the area if you're not familiar.

You can buy them at Barnes & Nobles and likely 4 wheel supply should carry them. You can also buy the spirl bound edition off the website or you can have Kinkos convert them for $6
