Scorpion

Trail Rating: 3.5

Scorpion is in the White Tanks area. It is a wash that is broken down into Lower and Upper. The trail gets progressively harder as you work your way towards the end.

The Lower portion has only a handful of obstacles. The first obstacle you come to is a double waterfall. This will be very challenging for open/open vehicles. The difficulty also increases under wet conditions. Use spotting and work your way up.

As you continue up Lower, there will be a few minor challenges and one section that will tilt your passenger side very close to a rock wall. Body damage is possible here especially if you have a hard top on. Eventually Lower crosses an access road and arrives at the start of Upper.

Upper Scorpion starts off with a very intimidating waterfall. There is a sign off to the right announcing "Scorpion". There are at least two ways up the waterfall. In general, most stockish jeeps go up the left side. If the first rig needs to winch, have another rig drive around the access road to the top to act as an anchor point.

After the waterfall, the wash continues and there are a variety of obstacles to hit along the way. As you approach the end, you'll see a faint road split off to the right. You will return this way. Continue up the wash through a rock garden and you'll eventually exit and will make a loop back on the faint road. You'll need to rerun a portion of the trail as you return to the main waterfall. Right before you get back to the waterfall, there is an access road on the right that will take you back to the bottom.

Scorpion can be run in 2 to 4 hours depending on group size and if you do both Lower and Upper. Aggressive 33" tires and good skid plates are bare minimum. At least one locker is recommended. A winch and two lockers will make this trail much easier.

If you need to stack rocks, please unstack after you get through.

First obstacle on Lower Scorpion. It's a double waterfall.

This obstacle will tilt your jeep very close to a rock on the passenger side. There is plenty of room but body damage is possible.

Another view from the back. After you clear this obstacle, you’ll continue up the wash and will come to an access road that crosses the wash. You can exit down this road or continue to Upper Scorpion.

Here is the sign for the start of Upper Scorpion. It’s to the right of the big waterfall.

This is the main obstacle to Scorpion. Rigs can go either right or left.

There is an awkward ledge at the top

Some rigs get some air. Definitely some pucker factor

Continuing up the wash leads to this rock right in the middle. You can go right or left around it.

As you approach the end, you enter a rock garden that provides a fun challenge

This is basically the end of the trail. You'll exit onto an access road. This road loops you back to the middle of Upper Scorpion. You'll need to drop back into the wash to work your way back to the beginning.
