I am trying to get the ring gear carrier out of my dana 30. I don't have a case spreader and my large prybar is just flexing. Does anybody have any ideas on getting it out or ways to make a case spreader?
Thank you

I usually tie a section of cording around the carrier so it doesn't go flying or land on the floor.

Try putting a wrench on one bolt. Rotate it to the top so the wrench is against the housing. Then take another wrench and put it on a lower bolt and tug on it.

Also make sure the axles are out far enough. :D

I had to give mine a few taps with a hammer, then did something similar to what Fireball suggested.

Still no luck. I have the axles completely out of the housing so I know that isn't the problem..........and yes the bearing caps are off too.

stuff a rag into the ring gear and rotate the pinion, sometimes it will pop the carrier out..

I just got it. All I had to do was take my skirt off and put my sippy cup down.

I pried on it for an hour by myself then my friend then we got out the come along. I was rereading threads elsewhere about it and trying to figure out what exactly to do with the 17mm wrench while my friend kept at it. it popped out all of a sudden nearly hit him in the face (good thing the track bar is there). If i had to do it again i don't know that we could. what a mother F'er. I don't know that I'd exactly recommend the come along but it helped us. :aagh:

Slip a box end wrench over a ring gear bolt head and rotate the ring gear up until the wrench binds against the housing.....then use a pry bar on the bottom to roll the diff out of the housing.
