A Bison vs. Jeep in Yellowstone, love the sign they put in the window. Looks like the Bison won....I don't know how to get the pictures to just show up, if some else can, thanks!! By the way that is just like my Jeep so I guess I better be careful when I go to YS to stay clear of the Bison!

Mmmmmm.........buffalo is great eating. And very lean and healthy for you. And Jeep has a lot of iron.....so the steaks would be full of vitamins AND minerals.

Right Lance, but tenderizing it with your Jeep is a little excessive, ever eat road kill meat? :puke:

LOL, I do like buffalo steaks, ate my first one at YS at mammoth inn. I sorta feel like a traitor, I hate that YS mgmt is killing buffalo, they took the heard numbers down from 4,500 to less than 3,000 this year. But darn they do taste better than tham thear cows:wings: Looks like the buffalo walked away no damage on this one according to the sign:fashizzle:

I doubt the bison(buffalo) walked away uninjured. Survived maybe, but not without a scratch for sure.

As a matter of fact, I have. My cousin hit a deer in Kaibab during deer season. It did not die right away, so he used his tag and shot it. We lost all the collision side meat, but the other side was fine.

I guess the perfect scenario would be hitting it in the head, I have heard of salvaging some meat that way. We eat a lot of buffalo and elk, mostly store bought though. Taking out a buffalo with a vehicle doesn't look like a good idea.....

I was wondering what the outcome would have been if it was Bison vs. Wrangler Jeep? I think there would have been alot more damage to the wrangler than the full sized jeep. And if it rolled the driver could have been thrown out if not buckled in. I do know that to hit a bison in YS you are probley driving in the dark way to fast. Cause them Bison do not just run in front of you. They are a trip they just walk next to ya or in front, or behind where ever they want, and do it slow...so whomever was driving that jeep it more than likely his or her fault. Oh and a bison out weigh's a deer or elk by twice the size, so it is possible depending on where it was hit and the speed that it was able to get out of it without a major injury. Them suckers are huge!! :wings:

1st, a GC is NOT a fullsized Jeep.
2nd, a Wrangler is higher, made of steel(not plastic) and actually has a frame(not unibody), so I would suspect the damage would be less.
3rd, Bison are VERY fast, I have seen them in person on several occasions in the wild(Flagstaff area on a ranch and Kiabab plateau)
4th, a BIG deer is 300 lbs, a BIG elk is 900 lbs, a big bison is well over 2000 lbs(all on the hoof weights), hitting a bison is like hitting a Mini Cooper.

Ok, so what is a full sized jeep then? My GC is steel, not plastic, ya the bumper maybe but the body is steel. Just wondering??? Oh, I know they are fast, they can run up to 30-35 miles per hour, pretty fast for a 2000 lb animal. but in yellowstone where this accident took place, they really do not run too much, and when they do it is on the grass not the asphalt...As they slip too much. So what is a full size jeep if a GC 4 door is not????

The OLD Cherokee, Wagoneer, J-trucks, etc. Jeep does not currently build a "fullsize" vehicle, the Commander would be the closest thing to one. Your GC(ZJ, WJ) has the same width as a TJ, and is actually shorter. WB is a touch longer, but not as long as an LJ. The new 4 door JK is a beast, but still nothing compared to the J-trucks.

Here is the description of a FSJ.......

What is a Full Size Jeep?
An "FSJ" is any vehicle produced in North America, carrying the "Jeep" nameplate, with 2 or 4drs, in 2 or 4wd, whose wheelbase does not exceed 132", nor is less than 109", and whose tread width is no more than 63" nor less than 57". This definition is known to include the following models:

Cherokee: 1974-1983
Wagoneer: 1963-1983
Grand Wagoneer: 1984-1991
Gladiator and J-series pickup: 1963-1987
M-715 Military versions and its derivatives
The following vehicles, while not technically Full Size Jeeps, are welcomed here, as they are the honored forebearers of our beloved beasts of burden:
1947-1965 Jeep All Steel Wagon
1947-1965 Jeep Pickup (not Gladiator)
Forward Control Trucks (FC-150/FC-170) - although the FC-150 was based on the CJ chassis

okey, to complicated for me....so I am not a full size jeep, but I still personally think a wrangler would have been demolished in the same wreck. At any rate I am going to stay clear of the Bison and not scare them when I am there.
